http://www.discogs.com/Prefuse-73-Meditation-Upon-Meditations-The-Japanese-Diaries-/release/1783648 Don't know if you've heard of this release, but it is legit Prefuse, extremely hard to find, and yes, it is AMAZING. Sounds like Vocal Studies mixed in with Ampexian, kinda. Pick it up from someone if you can........................ .......................

Aphex Twin Ambient music: Anything like 'On Land' by Brain Eno?
by Guest The Dirt- 21 replies
- 1.8k views
I've searched for years to find something like 'On Land' by Brian Eno. Almost every song on that album defines the perfect type of music for me. The closest things I've ever found is Substrata by Biosphere, if not Apollo by Eno as well, among a few other Eno albums (like Music For Films, etc). Selected Ambient Works II by Aphex Twin was really cool, too; not quite what I'm talking about, but it was a great addition to my library of music, as was Lifeforms by FSOL. I've heard of plenty of dark ambient that all just sounds the same (like Stalker, which I found boring) but I would like as many suggestions as you could possibly give me. Please, for the love of all that is gre…

On the Subject of Eno...
by Guest The Dirt- 17 replies

Shouldn't there be a sub-forum in the featured artists area for Brian Eno? The man has released over 50 of his own albums, has produced 43 (I think that's the precise number) of other artist's albums, pioneered the art rock and ambient genres, coined the term ambient, inspired the dark ambient genre, and has been making a huge variety of music for four and a half decades. He deserves a forum. In featured artists. Seeing as how this place has existed for quite a long while, do tell me if I'm being a naive dumbass.

plaid Fantasy festival line-up
by Guest Stoppit- 7 replies

At work we've been asked to create a dream festival lineup, featuring 12 artists/bands (no restrictions, can be retired or dead). Now they've asked us to make a CD featuring one track from each artist, and they will play it in the store (which will be interesting). I've decided on my lineup, but I'm still open to suggestions about the tracks. There can't be too much swearing, which is going to make it a little more difficult. Currently, my playlist is: The Focus Group & Belbury Poly___________The Hidden Door (Belbury Poly track, I'm imagining the two of them doing a joint set) A Tribe Called Quest_____________________Midnight Squarepusher________________________…

she sang like an angel "It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care. Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time. This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly - a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace. I received an email from Bleep today stating FlyLo has a few new tracks/different versions of other tracks, including an absolutely beautiful (and in my opinion much better) harp-only Clock Catcher. They're unlocked by holding one's physical copy (cd or vinyl) of the album to a webcam... pretty dope, never seen anything like that. Anyway, find it here

Is Rock Dead? 1 2 3
by Guest Etch- 59 replies

Rock songs in the charts fall to lowest level in 50 years, with only three tracks appearing in the top 100 best-sellers. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jan/10/rock-n-roll-read-last-rites I'm interested to hear what people think of this article. Personally I think that labeling it 'dead' is preposterous. But I feel there is a sea change of sorts. A growing validation for other styles of music and influences perhaps? The internet?

http://www.boomkat.com/special_offers/ I just ordered Thomas Köner's 3CD boxset and Leyland Kirby's Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was on 3CD for less than £30 in total. It's just too bad the discounts are so focused on Type, though.

http://architectsandheroesrecords.wordpress.com/ my friend that was going to do the coding for our new site had his apartment broken into and his computer equipment stolen. So we had to scramble around and come up with another alternative. I did this last night and there will be perhaps layout changes, content changes, and constant updates on the blog home page. I'm basically waiting on all the artists bios, adding a couple more artists, and what not. So this isn't official yet except for the releases page... that's pretty official.

Hi We Are The Music Makers people! This January come and join Soundcrash in Camden’s glorious noise-cavern called KOKO for a Ska and Reggae Winter feast, with more than 30 years of the finest musical heritage represented by a whole host of movers, shakers and legends! London-based cool cats Ska Cubano formed in 2001 when singer Natty Bo visited Cuba with the idea of ‘creating an alternative history in which Cuban Ska had emerged’; combining the irresistible Ska half-step with ultra-cool Cuban chords and croons was never likely to fail! The current formation combines musicians from both Cuba and Jamaica, as well as Japan, Monserrat and London, including 3 members o…

I'll be DJing a specialty show for my campus radio station and part of my show will be how jazz/reggae/soul have become influential to many of today's artists ranging from Hip-Hop to tem idmz to Psychedelic and etc. etc. I really enjoy Jazz, but haven't dived into the deep end of the pool yet. Have pretty much just scratched on Thelonious Monk, Mingus, Coltrane, and Dolphy, would appreciate any recommendations on essential jazz albums/artists that you think I should bring onto the show. I also need some recommendations on reggae artists as I have not delved very deeply into it either. I've got Lee Scratch Perry's Arkology, Max Romeo's War In A Babylon, Lone Ranger stuff…
