Back in the day when before I was a baby, five DJ's were broadcasting hot mixes on WBMX Chicago, all good stuff like pre-house, Italo, techno, whatevs. These are sought after and traded, and I know that these cassette and VCR mixes are floating around on the net in possibly torrent form or perhaps hidden on some house forum somewhere. Does anyone have a lead on these mixes? I can only find angry, surly German men on slsk who host these files and they only allow you to download one file at a time and demand a short thank you essay in return for the privilege of downloading such highly prized material.

compilation recommendation
by Guest thepilot- 3 replies

Does anyone know of any compilations of "early-era" electronic listening music such as that showcased on the Artificial Intelligence V/A Warp albums? Some others I've found are: The Philosophy of Sound and Machine on Applied Rhythmic Technology (ART) and maybe the Excursions in Ambience series on Caroline/Astralwerks. Anyone know of others of their kind? Thanks for any ideas or recommendations.

I remember hearing a really nice remix of Dial on here many years ago, I'm pretty sure it was by encey. I was listening to Gantz Graf and this popped into my head. If a copy still exists, could you box it up for me? (i dont care if this belongs in autechre or ylc forums, figured it would be most likely to be seen here)

i'm trying to decide where to go from Smash. my options so far are: a) Akufen "My Way" b) James Holden "The Idiots Are Winning" c) Vernon LeNoir "YAWK!" I picked these at somewhat random, would any of these compliment Smash?

I took black friday off this year because i never do and i've come to find out that they're doing another total Record Store Day thing again w/ all these exclusive vinyls. Amoeba had a list of stuff. http://www.amoeba.com/blog/2010/11/amoeba-music/special-black-friday-releases.html so check that out on the 26th. don't know if it's going to be international but that would be nice for our friends outside the US.

so i am the guy who always shows up in those "which album should i start with?" threads saying the order doesn't matter, but now i am the one asking for opinion, because it might be important. i have heard nothing but positive things about venetian snares but i only have Higgins ultra low track glue funk hits and Hospitaliy which i never listened to and watched a couple of vids on youtube that sounded cool, but never really went back to it. throw some suggestions...

I just got 2 free subs/speakers from a friend, so I set it up and all and I have awesome sound in iTunes but have absolute NO SOUND in FL STUDIO 9 or even the browser such as Youtube. anybody have any idea of what the problem is? If not, then I am honestly considering to call Geek Squad down here Lol. So it would really help a lot =] <3 Thanks. I'm very disillusioned with ebay after a few bad experiences, and I'm curious to find out whether I've just had bad luck buying music there or if these things are common. I bought what was supposedly the alternate version of Autechre's Envane (listing here). Of course, I received the standard version in the mail . In an unrelated incident, I also bought the Mike and Rich album on vinyl, and it had two copies of the A/B side! I had to twist the guys arm to get him to accept a return. Anybody else had bad experiences buying music online?

Acid Kirk appreciation

I figured one of Belgium's finest at least deserves his own thread. I still greatly enjoy his Childhood Memories record (the B-side is one of the strangest and most magical works of acid I've ever heard) (http://boomkat.com/downloads/27224-acid-kirk-childhood-memories) and he still DJs quite a lot. Saw him in Belgium alongside Venetian Snares last year, and he was easily the musical highlight of the evening. He's got a very impressive back-catalogue under different pseudonyms; stuff ranging from techno (Encephaloïd Disturbance) to noise/drone (Syncopated Elevators Legacy). http://www.discogs.com/artist/Cédric+Stevens I believe I read on his facebook or some…

http://vimeo.com/12691265 dunno if there is a thread about these guys, but check out this track from their debut album you make me real. their music makes me think of moritz von oswald trio, tho completely different style. one of my favorite 2010 discoveries.
