I definitely need to start using speakers

I always used headphones for everything (they are Sennheiser 280HD). Appart that using headphones for a long time can fuck your ears (Im allright tho), I read here that you'll need monitors specially for doing a proper equalization. Btw, I use the KX Drivers (http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/intro.php). They let you tweak bass and treble, default being 0.0dB on both. The question is: would you recommend composing on default settings? Since I don't like how default settings sound, I always pump a lot the treble and a little bit the bass too, since I like it bassy but clear. Thanks.

Sending demos 1 2
by Guest stolemb- 25 replies
- 2.1k views
Who and where you'll send demos? How do you know if you have stuff that its worth the try? Would you let listen to someone the stuff you are going to send? In my case, people here doesn't know shit about electronic music, so, would you attach here a track that you have in mind to send for feedback? If anyone did, I'll appreciate if you attach tracks that you have sen to whatever the record it was. Thanks.

I've had two USB audio interfaces, one the UA-20 had it's headphone port break, and the other one the Speedio never could record, so i need to buy a new Audio Interface if i want to record my micron, so i was looking at the audiophile usb, had anybody used it, and is it any good, or would i be better off just using Reason and FM8 for my synth needs and get an axiom for a midi controller (as i can't make music without a midi controller)

Hello Just watched the film '300' and it's a brilliant film, and I just thought....Fuck it man... why don't I samples some of these fucking great samples from the sound track of the film? (as in, sound effects specifically). So, that's my new source of sampling, films... You guys I'm sure know this already, but it's a good idea for newbies and the like. Oh and, I mention '300' because it has loads of sword swings and so on, they sound brilliant.

Anyone know how to do this? On Richard D. James Album and Come to Daddy ep he does this thing were the cymbals and other high end sounds just start squealing ,screeching and stretching like mad. I love the way it sounds but I have never been able to reproduce it. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what effect this is. A Cubase vst maybe?

For the 11th time....what the hell is he doing here? yesss the tired old question, but what can you make out from this? It looks like he's basically mixing prerecorded tracks. Does he have songs seperated out and parts assigned to differnt faders and effects? I don't see a laptop....Damn these shitty low res utube vidies and the lousy camera operators! And why can't Funk tour a lot more and let me get a better look?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B-weCXZWuA /pk

Psycle
by Guest ThePredator- 2 replies

Has anybody messed around with Psycle? It's a pretty cool peice of (open source) software. It is some sort of hybrid tracker (but in a different direction than renoise), and once it matures some more it could very well be the most useful peice of open source music making software (unless lmms developement goes up). http://psycle.pastnotecut.org/portal.php

I personally think I'll carry on making music for the rest of my life, I just love the emotional outlet, the experimentation and everything else that music brings. Do you think you'll carry on?.. and if so, do you think you'll quit your job sometime and go full on into it? (that's if you haven't already)

Is it socially unacceptable to play live... 1 2 3 4
by Guest Thisket- 95 replies
- 6.9k views
OK, I record music sequenced and made by hardware. I'm not about to haul my precious MS-10, MC-202, etc., out in front of possibly volatile drunk-children. So... Is it an awful idea to play a recorded .wav file out loud to a crowd? I've considered bringing a decoy instrument or possibly a cardboard box with 1/4" jacks in it. But is this just an awful idea?

fucking with pedals and shit
by Guest No Pomo- 17 replies

ok so I have to play this friday at a coffee shop, I don't have to, but I'm supposed to play for 2 hours My friend has a bunch of effect pedals and will let me use them, and I was thinking I might just do little jams with simple loops and shit while people enjoy talking and drinking their coffee (what a coffee house performance SHOULD be) would this be good enough for that? (mind that this is after only like 20 minutes of practicing, it will be much better)

Hi As you may or may not know, me and a friend have started our own little animation studio, and we need to invest in a good microphone! We need somethign quite versitile... primarily this will be for foley effects and dialogue... the dialogue recording ESPECIALLY has to sound good. But I will also be using it to ecord sounds for music. I don't want to spend more than $300-500 NZ ($500NZ = $356US, or £181, or 266 Euros). But if you can think of something that will be pretty much essential and costs more then by all means please tell me about that too. Also if anyone knows of any good portable recorders that are cheap that'd be cool too. Any advice and…
