Ableton delaying to kick in samples??
by Guest The Bro- 17 replies
Wtf. This is really annoying the cunt out of me and I think my heads about to explode. In a live mix, stupid retarded Ableton is delaying when it introduces samples all the fuckin time. All the samples are in time but they come in 1 bar too late so they sound funny. I have no idea why its doing it. It'll delay for much longer than it should. I wait for it and then hit the sample and they its basically saying 'no i'm not playing now i'm gonna play 1/4 of the way into a riff or sample. This is really stressing the crap out of me big time and am totally confused as to why the cock shit is doing this.

BBD reverb

so - as i promised - the sample. i recorded it on 2 channels (wet and dry signals separated) so you can turn either one on/off as you wish. if you just want to listen to what it sounds like then go with the mono mp3. the original .wav file (stereo - wet/dry separated) mono .mp3 (50/50 mixed wet/dry) stereo .mp3 (stereo - wet/dry separated) it's a fairly long twiddling session, for the first ~10 minutes just the R-8 playing an 808 snare and an 808 rimshot, then i switch to a bit of poly-800 for last few minutes. as you'll hear, effects range from simple delay, echo, to (quasi)reverbs, flanger, chorus... ANALOG!!!!! let me know what you think. oh! …

This isn't music that I've made, but these are some friends of mine. They aren't really involved with teh internets [we get together and record a lot], so I figured I would post it here, since I think their tracks are ace. http://www.myspace.com/pinebox1 I figured some people here would enjoy them.

So, for a while, Ive had an annoying little hum comming from my setup. I wrote it off as a shit ground loop, mostly because the wiring in my apartment bears little resemblance to a modern electrical plan. However, I turned my Kawai off the other day to move it and noticed the hum stopped immediately. Turn it on? Hum. Off? no hum. On with no volume? Hum. Unpluged 1/4" leads from mixer? No hum. So I haven't really done any more troubleshooting and I will on my own at some point but, could this be something as simple as dirty contacts or something? The 1/4" cables are brand new (although shity guitar center ones), so I doubt it's them. Thanks in advance

Clearing all automation in Live?
by Guest The Bro- 15 replies
- 1.1k views
How do you just clear all automation in one sweep? I hate it when I have part of a session with bits of automation that have been recorded and you just can't seem to selected the period and blank remove all of it. Anyways how do I just clear automation from an entire sequence 'cause its bugging me. I'm using Live 5 by the way. Cheers.

following up on a topic i had made a few weeks ago (that got deleted a day after it was made i think because of some database issues joyrex was having), has anyone ever tried this, and if so what sort of dialogue takes place, and what sort of money do you think is involved? just to follow up a bit, this morning i've heard back from the artist i sent an email to, and he politely has asked to hear the track and for me to propose a fee. i have no clue what a fair fee would be, at all. any ideas?

I know its totally over used but I just can't find a break which kicks through the mix in the same way. I mean there are some other awesome breaks such as Champion and another one I can't think of but I think the Prodigy used it quite a bit.

A question about mixing
by Guest TEXX- 4 replies
I'm really a newbie at mixing sounds to fit into the soundscape of a track. I often mix my sounds all over the place, and it ends up sounding muddy, and mostly centered around the mid frequecies. My question is this: When one has produced the sound one wishes to fit into the soundscape (be it a synthesizer, break or a sound clip) does one sort out the sounds frequencies to give it a "cleaner" sound, or fit it into a predetermined frequency so that it better interacts with the other sounds (placed at different positions to fill out the soundscape)? I you have a 303 that plays both dark and light notes (often sliding from high to low and vice versa) how does one go abou…

i got logic express. a kid from school who every day goes into the theater where they have musics hooked up, all the neat stuff, sits there on his mac with a synthesizer and a big square knobby thing and a drum set and all this super neat stuff, and makes electronic music. i got a teacher to install logic for me on my macbook and then today the kid taught me how to use it. SO!!!!! i know the basics, i know how to make drum loops, i know how to cut up and edit a sample, i know how to work the built in synthesizers. so basically with what i know now i can probably come up with some pretty good stuff. OKAY. so, right now i want to screw around with some s…

Autechre Alesis MMT8
by Guest analogue wings- 18 replies

Anyone use one of these? Apparently, they have 8 "tracks", each "track" being 16 channels of midi. That's pretty :omg: for 1988. Also apparently, they are the live sequencer of choice for Orbital (RIP) and Autechre

Cheap midi triggers with loadsa buttons/switches
by Guest Noel Edmonds- 8 replies
Ok, so currently I'm using a pretty basic setup, Live & an Emu X-board are pretty much the core of my beatmaking. This works great for composition and writing tunes, but I find structuring tracks, triggering effects, launching drum loops etc a real pain in the arse... all the controls on the X-board are gradual and not really sutable for simple on/off stuff like this. So, my main requirement is CHEAP. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP because I have no money. Next, as many assignable buttons (or switches, or any non-gradual controls) as possible. I don't mind getting it from ebay or whatever. I really want to move my production to a level where there's a real evolution in…

Recommend me a laptop for er live er live
by Guest The Bro- 15 replies

I'm probably looking at about a budget of £500. I need to get a laptop essentially for Ableton. Currently I borrow a laptop but really I need my own. What sort of spec would be good enough to run Live 5 on for a lappy? As a comparitive currently I get to use a P4 2.8ghz with about 512mb and it very smooth to use. Cheers.
