I have an almost three year old laptop it has an amd2800+ processor 512 megabites of ram and a 60 gig harddrive. I'm considering upgrading to a new laptop, but my problemis that all new laptops come with vista and i have software that either doesn;t work now (FM8 CS80V, FLStudio) and software that will never work because it has been discontinued (Intakt, Foundation). the only software i have that works with vista is Reason. I'm happy with my current software (the only thing i want is reason 4 when it comes out). so would i be better off getting more ram or should i jsut get a new laptop?

Live Performance / Low CPU Synth VSTs - recommend?

i got invited to play a festival in freezing ass minneapolis and have put off preparing. i have a sweet glove midi controller me and my nerdkrew worked out. but i'm lite on good, reliable vsts. i need a 'performance' vst; something with nice real time parameter controls for mapping. i'm tired of buffer override, but something in that vein. i've tried yoink but its a little hard to work with. otto vst is fun but way too simple. also any vst synth that has great simple raw grimey tones. i use modular system and csv80 for a lot of stuff but they're very heavy. i'd love a great simple 8bit synth vst...i'm mostly into very simple but very powerful raw osc …

Hello you'uns. I'm looking to get a new external sound card and a USB midi controller and have noticed that M-Audio have combined them both in one nice little box: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MAudioOzone-main.html Plus it's only £122 from dolphin music.co.uk Right so questions is: Would this thing give me a standalone, and more importantly good quality soundcard to listen to music with ? Would it allow me to cue tracks in say Ableton, Traktor etc. with the headphone output (i.e. does it support multiple outputs) using the headphone as a dedicated output. Is it any good, does anyone know. What would be a good alternative, t…

ATMEL ATmega8 based chips, programmable over usb, it costs about 25 euros (!) has 8 digital ins and 4 analog ins so you can hook up all kinds of potentiometers, sensors,LCD screens etc it has a very sleek programming enviroment, really fancy stuff , and you can interface it with maxmsp/puredata and even with flash or director you can fit 'shields' on top - seperate pcbs that extend the ins and outs of the main arduino board, like this 6 fader board for example i'm thinking of hooking up a few contact microphones to the arduino and using the contact mics as triggers for maxmsp, maybe adding some cheap pressure sensitive sensors or mo…

hello, i've been using live for quite a while. i recently got rid of my version 4 to have some v5 some dood gave me. now i got asked to do some radiomix session or some shit and i though it would be quite entertaining. now when i load the songs in the program. it changes the tempo of the file to the shown bpm at the left upper corner of the screen. that is quite annoying... sup with that ?? can I get rid of it or what ?? when i make a track with that program, i just set the bpm at the beggining and then everything works. help thx ?

R.C 20 XL Loop Station.
by Guest daiz- 2 replies

Hi guys, been a while since I posted on here. I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice regarding said Loop Station. The problem I have is that the blasted thing he gone into some sort of backing track mode, not allowing the record option to be utilised leaving only play and overdub accesable by the left pedal. I have just bougt the thing a few days ago, and whilst I can see how useful it's going to be for me, when I get the hang of it, I just can't seem to sort this problem. The manual ain't much help. Any advice much appriciated. Cheers. p.s Big G if your out there, how ye doing bro ? Long time no see.

Getting audio from a DVD.
by Guest The Bro- 15 replies

Okay this should be very easy but it's proving a bitch. I'm trying to rip some audio from DVD. I figure I should be able to record the output into Soundforge but I'm getting this bizarre reverb feedback. Wtf why isn't the easiest thing easy? I've installed my new soundcard and weird shit like that just goes right over my head. Any suggestions?

Triton series synths
by Guest LJG- 18 replies

What do you lot think of Triton synths? I'm going to be wanting another hardware synth with some programmability, flexibility, and polyphony at some point, and I'm just trying to figure out what's a good foundational piece of gear, nice sounds built in but with tweakability, etc. I've looked a lot at the Nord stuff, which is great, but seriously I shouldn't spend that much money at all. I really shouldn't. So what's a nice basic synth to use if Tritons aren't worth it? Any advice? I know there have been threads on this subject generally before, but in the interest of current updated blah blah here we go again...

Vermona DRM1 MKII

http://www.vermona.com/en/produkte/drm/drm1.html $700 anyone ever used one of these? or know of any similar products? i've been dreaming of something like this for a long time, i didn't even know it existed until about an hour ago. i had thought of building something like this with invidual modules before, but it would be amazingly expensive to make a path of modules for just 1 decent drum sound. i kind of want to get another nord modular just for percussion too...

Recommend me a sequencer 1 2
by Guest The Bro- 45 replies

So at the moment I'm using Ableton and before I was using my old version of Cubase. Anyways I quite like Ableton and I may stick with it. I'm not that sure about the key editing and I've yet to see how well it works with Kontakt but I like the fact that once I have a drum loop or sample I can easily get them in time whatever the tempo is. So any other suggestions bearing in mind I like to make proper tunes and not just sound experiments?

Ableton and Multi channel plugins
by Guest The Bro- 7 replies
So how do I get to use more than one channel with multi channel plugins such as Kontakt 1 in Ableton? I can only seem to get one midi channel from it and its kinda frustrating. Also how do I run an external piece of midi equipment through Ableton, specially my Korg sound module? While I'm about it we should make this a general queries thread for Ableton anyways as I'm still learning about it. Cheers
