Power Amp Question
by Guest Wall Bird- 3 replies
So I recently bought myself a pair of Tannoy Reveal 6s. Now I need to find myself a reasonable amplifier to power each of them. They are 50-100w with an impedance of 8 ohms. Are there any other factors I should consider when looking for an amp? Does anyone know of a simple and relatively cheap amp that could do the job well? I'm a bit new to this, so it's harder to make a good decision. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

i need a new mixer
by Guest eatanter- 6 replies

hey guys, i really need a new mixer, but i never got too deep into mixers for that matter, i'm still considering them like more of a necessity really. been working with my phonic mu 1002 up to now, but during last year, i've aquired several effect units, and using them with just one auxbus is not really top-notch mixing, eh? i wanna use em independently, not only in one row. also, there are only eqs for the first 2 channels. my budget is not that large,or i would have gotten me a nice mackie or midas already.so what im looking for is a mixer with - at least 10 channels - eqs for every channel - 3 auxbusses at the very lea…

So, I got a BCR2000 for Christmas and I was just getting around to really playing with it in earnest yesterday. I had a Nord Modular patch going with about 10-12 different values I had assigned to midi cc's that were edited by the knobs. About midway into what I was doing though, I noticed that, just sitting there, playing the note sequence in Renoise and nothing else, the BCR was changing values on knobs with no input from me. Like, take the top row of push encoder knobs, I would watch knobs 1-4 drift about +/- 15 or so in value, constantly. I have it set to Standalone-2 behavior mode (IN + Merge to Out A, Thru to Out B), I have Midi notes generated from Renois…

Anybody know any good ring-mods....? Like some internal oscillators or different shapes with some interesting modulations of rate and stuff. Also a very basic comb filter plugin thats light on cpu? (aint a comb filter just a delay in the low ms range though?). I know about hexaline, mda ringmod, mabento, bj ringmodulator, ....... There is some other one I remember that started with a T........... It was my favorite. But ive never really been satisfied. I just need to learn how to code dsp and Ill be in business.

sample interpolation
by Guest Adjective- 2 replies

Renoise was the first app i noticed that listed the names of these interpolation methods, usually the apps i used just said "low, medium, high, ultra high" or something or nothing at all. I've noticed Reaper let's you choose between linear and cubic or something when you mixdown can anyone explain these to me, advantages / disadvantages? do i want something like 256 point sinc interpolation from a DAW? are there any DAW's that actually do that?

M-Audio 2496 help
by Guest The Bro- 5 replies

So I've just installed my pci card I got for Xmas. Internal wave audio seems to be working fine. However when I go to record something in Cubase I get latency but when I'm just jamming I get no latency (6ms). Secondly I hooked in my Korg 05R/W via Midi and its seems to register and everything on the Soundcard's Control Panel but I'm getting no audio output from my speakers. Basically I've got a mixer's out going into the soundcard's ins. So that's pretty odd to say the least. I should be able to get my Korg's to work and for the most part it seems to be except I'm getting no audio out. The latency issue with Cubase seemed to be the exact same problem I had bef…

Noise cancelling headphones
by Guest Adjective- 8 replies
I've been curious about these and was thinking about getting some for work. At work i scan documents all day on this old microfiche reader and the fans on it are kind of loud. This sits on my left side at about chest level so i'm worried that maybe my left ear will start losing some of those frequencies or something. So, with a constant fan drone like that, would noise cancelling headphones save my hearing? i'd rather not do ear plugs, i hear they can encourage infections sometimes that harm hearing.

A Monitor Question
by Guest Wall Bird- 12 replies
- 1.1k views
I've been in the market for a decent pair of reference monitors lately and I keep coming across the Yamaha NS-10M Studio. I've seen them in several studios before and now I've come across a good deal online for a pair of them. I havent had a chance to listen to them in person. My question is this - does anyone have experience with these monitors? How do they sound? Are they worth buying for under $500? How do they compare to more modern monitors and is there anything I should keep my eye out for when buying some? I'd appreciate any help you guys could give me. Thanks, again.

It's funny, with all of the recent talk of modular synths and how everyone wants some cool awesome new sonic possibilites and yadda etc blah woo zippy wah wah talk. Nobody seems to even notice that Addative synthesis exists! To go over it in a really really basic way (since Im no synth professor!): Instead of subtractive synthesis (taking a base waveform and using filters/envelopes to shape new sonic data), you instead ADD harmonic content. Typically this is done using stacked sine waves (because sine waves have very limited and understandable harmonic content, indeed, a pure sine has only the first order, or base harmonic). Lots of people know of…

Ok, so, having fun with the Oscillator that arrived in my Synthesizers.com entry plan, I decided it would be fun to test the Ana-snobs around here, to see if people can truly pick out analog vs digital! So here we have round one. Pulse wave at 50% duty cycle (Square). One of these wav's came from the Synthesizers.com's analog oscillator, the other came from my Nord Modular's digital osc. Hopefully, Ill get enough guesses to make this worthwhile. To make it as easy as possible to pick out, the patterns you're listening to are just simple scales. Good luck! a.wav b.wav

could someone please make me a fifteen-second-or-so loop?

I have to make a feature show for my course in radio broadcasting. My show's gonna be about the old underground slums in edinburgh, and the stories of some of the crazy stuff that's happened there over the years. The tone would need to be fairly dark, although no really obtrusive beats because I'll need to talk over it sometimes. I've got the right to sell my show to a broadcaster, and in the unlikely event that someone buys it whoever made the music would be entitled to some cash. Any takers? You'd be doing me a massive favour

I'm thinking of starting a small production line of adapters for the little input socket on the DS. I've found something that fits perfectly into the socket and pretty much just put a 3.5mm jack at the end of it. Photos. Works quite well with a guitar or microphone, recording into Nitrotracker. Anyone interested in one? I guess this is just for those who can't solder one themselves hehe.

can the vocalist not sing? are the vocals not technically mastered properly? are the production ideas not aesthetically apt / executed appropriately? ftp://mirror.support.nl/pub/mono/mp3/[mtk...ring-troupe.mp3 was just listening to this earlier (random track released recently on monotonik) and i've been really paying attention a lot to what makes vocals work and what makes them not work, as i'm eventually going to attempt to record my own vocals. in this case, i feel like the vocals fail. i cant quite put my finger on why, but my guess is that it's the quality of the recording, and maybe the execution of the vocals coming from the singer. i think the pote…

should i offer him $50 and/or swap another drum machine for it, and keep it for myself (probably pretty useless because i don't really make the kind of music that would use an 808)? or shall i tell him how much i can get for it on ebay and offer to split the profit?
