Intel Mac + Live 5.2 + Firewire Mixer =

so i've finally procured a copy of Ableton Live 5.2 and installed it on my Macbook earlier this evening. after a few minor tweaks and firmware/driver updates on my mixer, i got everything running incredibly quickly. the tutorials bundled with Live were ridiculously clear as well. within about 30 minutes, i was composing tracks more fluidly than i'd ever been able to with any other sequencer. Live is the motherfucking daddy. i can record 8 simultaneous channels with my mixer and loop and cut the resulting audio on the fly. even while running several effects on a through channel, the latency is barely noticable. i had two delays, a chorus, phaser and a reverb al…

So I fried my computer, and am thinking about switching back to a Mac. I'm looking at either the 20" iMac or the 15"Macbook Pro. What do people on here use, and what kind of audio configurations are you using. Like what sort of interfaces? Let me know!! THanks :)

lemur granted it's kind of neat, but $2100 AFTER a $300 discount for a fucking 12" by 12" touch screen controller box seems pretty fucking ridiclous. especially since it only works with maxmsp, reaktor, and pd.

gearreviews.watmm.com (or something) 1 2
by Guest boo- 33 replies

just a simple page we can submit reviews to. like em411. it shouldn't just be reviews of new purchases but also gear people have used for years and recommend. people are always asking what mixers, monitors, microphones, soundcards, analogue synths, digital synths, headphones, etc... they should buy. so it'd be useful to have the information in one place. it could be organised by price range (budget and pro sections) and then gear type.

i'm getting a macbook in a day or two, and it's possible that i am getting a microkorg for my birthday, which is september 8th. so! i am wondering, is there a plug in that comes with the microkorg which i could directly plug into the macbook and start making music and recording it to garageband? or is it more complicated than that? thanks

I'm in the process of constructing a new webpage at the moment, and I got the idea to have an open-source page on it. This page would be sample packs & VST's & breakbeats & whatever, all made my me and people I know. I welcome you all to make stuff to put on this page. I only have the following criteria: All sample packs in zip form. All VST's in zip form. All breakbeats in wav form. That's it! If you have anything you'd like to contribute, by all means send it this way! You'll receive full credit on the page with whatever you've contributed. Hit me up in this thread, PM'ing, or email at wescardell at gmail dot com.

anyone notice a striking difference in writing melodies on different instruments? i would consider my keyboard skills comparable if not better than my guitar skills, and i just got a new keyboard and i've been writing some melodies on it as opposed to writing melodies on my guitar the past few years, and the melodies are all bright and kinda gay. i mean i know how to write the same tune on the guitar on the keybaord, but my melodes tend to be way better on the guitar. maybe i just suck at the keyboard without realizing it. but last track i had to write the tune on the guitar first, then play it on the keyboard. then it sounded fine.

I've got a PS2 control pad -> USB convertor and I was just wondering if it's possible to use it to control Ableton Live and/or programs like traktor. Having the twin X/Y analogue sticks plus the analogue buttons could be usefull for music-ings. So yeah, does anyone know if this sort of thing is possible ? EDIT: This is the closest I've found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqyjnFNQ96Q (this uses the buttons to trigger stuff but unfortunatly doesn't talk about using this analogue sticks)
