by Guest KarakasaMusic- 4 replies

does anyone know where i can pick up a decent amount of classic a cappellas like pubic enemy, kool keith, n.w.a, ice cube, ice-t, daddy freddy, et cetera? i've looked for a while and have only been able to come up with a couple of compilations which had crap on them. i'd like to find entire cds et cetera, not just odds and ends on soulseek.

Cubase isn't compatible with my new MacBook Intel DualCore
by Guest Yggdrasil- 20 replies
- 1.4k views
i've been running cubase sx for about 2 years on my old machine, but recently had the opportunity to get a macbook intel dualcore for free. i know that steinberg is planning on porting Cubase over to Intel in the future, but i need something to hold me over in the meantime. the two recommendations i hear the most are logic pro 6.2 and ableton live 5. which one of these two is best for our brand of audio creation? are there any other progs you'd recommend as well? cheers...i really appreciate the help. i've got a computer that's 6 times faster than the one i used to record with, and i'd love to see what it's capable of.

Got new pc but music production is slow
by Guest The Bro- 15 replies
- 1.2k views
So finally got a new PC this weekend for my birthday ... yeh!! Its 3.0ghz Celeron D, 1gb DDR2 ram with 160 GB hd etc. It comes with a very bog standard sound card with a line in/mic which seems to have a lot of hiss. Okay so I'm using Cubase VST 2.5 and its slow. I mean its not slow its just that I'm expected no buffering with playing VSTinstruments. I don't know whether I need to configure my ASIO settings or what. I think I'm gonna look to make the transition to some other progs now such as Live or Reactor. Anyways the score is my midi keyboard is hooked in via the midi in on my usb knob controller. Now I was wondering is that why I'm getting so much lag when play…

Keyboard Skillz
by Guest LJG- 18 replies

I was wondering if any of you lot could recommend any online resources for keyboard learning. I'm working with a monophonic synth at the moment, and using a keyboard controller, so I'd like to work on scale work and modes, for those times when I'm not trying to create tracks. Fingering patterns for both left and right hands would be ideal. Not that I can't google of course, but just checking for positive experiences here, and also any related recommendations... Thanks. LJG

Today I was in my local coffeeshop, where the one waitress is a laptop musician. I told her I wanted to do a live show and asked for advice. She gave me the numbers for places I can put on house shows. Now I'm looking to get a crew together to put on a show. Let's do this shit.

what site should i buy my G2 engine from?
by Guest dugbert- 10 replies
i like to buy from zzounds, but they don't carry it i was going to buy it from music123, but i think it's out of stock, and their website sucks. plus i don't like their selection of cables. i want to buy it from musiciansfriend, free shipping + cheap cables that i like, but i'll have to pay like $80 sales tax probably =[ which is a big dent in my bank account, considering i'll only have like $200 left when this mission is over. fuck it though, i get paid like $300 every wednesday, maybe i should just suck it up. what if my girlfriend finds out i don't have enough money for groceries this week? ANYWAY: i'm looking for suggestions of some reliable or…

can anyone compare NI guitar rig to a line6 POD sound-wise?
by Guest aeser- 2 replies
i have a pod xt, i love it, it's on the fritz and certain things don't work anymore for some reason (like the tuner) and for some goddamn reason the pots have become scratchy (WTF they're fucking DIGITAL, this is exactly what is NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!) and when you hit certain spots in the volume pot it comes through one ear and not the other till you jiggle it then it comes through both (if you're lucky). guitar rig has always looked very appealing to me, and in looking for a permanent solution for my home setup (have a nice burly amp for the practice space and live this would just be for personal home practice and home recording and fucking around for me) i've alw…

so, ableton users..... is it possible to set up ableton to play a single 50 minute .wav from beginning to end, and have like 12 vst instruments instantly accessible, with effects, and be able to toggle between the instruments quickly? if so, how would i set this up? (never really used ableton much, but it seems like the beast for the job.) will this kill the fuck out of my cpu and crash at an inopportune moment? thanks in advance.

I've always been really impatient with my tracks and "finish" them way too soon, usually resulting in them being half assed, repetitive or generally unpolished. the only track i've ever been satisfied with was indeed a track i spent over a month on, so maybe i'm thinking there's some connection with time and polish. i had the same thing when i was drawing, i rarely went beyond a rough sketch state. I mean, it's almost like i consider myself much better than I sound, i'm just too lazy to prove it. it's like, once the melodical ideas are done the rest is just "detail" work that i can't be arsed with. Maybe it's like picasso or someone said, art is never finished, …

Let's hear em. I'm working with Oxygenfad on a project to get a serious label going (net, cdrs, cds, vinyl releases, live shows, merchandise, etc), and I've been assigned the task of finding up and coming artists with awesome music. I'm looking to form a very eclectic, diverse selection. Anything from noise to synthpop. So please, hit me up with what you consider your best songs, but only if you're interested in working with us.

i always tag my fellow YLCers 'watmm' and tags that seem relevant to me. that way we could have a radio of 'watmm' tagged artists. what ya think? this needs peeps to tag their mp3s correctly btw. but weel each one does what he wants with his mp3s doesn't he? cheese. edit: also, would be cool to upload pics and vote wouldn't it?
