I just read the thread title as Baking Bread and was a bit disappointed.

So yeah, I made good on my plan and started watching this show... I'm fucking hooked, the subject matter is dark as hell, but the characters are really well developed and real and holy jesus balls is it ever intense. Good acting too, I'm still only a little into season 1 but god damn I'm curious to see where this show goes, I got a lot of catching up to do.

Good premiere. Gus is a stonecold badass and made an obvious statement. This show is great in creating tension. I didn't really miss this when it was on hiatus but as soon as I started watching it I am again hooked. Great show.

it's been long since the end of s03 so its high quality surprised me all over again, if anything i thought the Gus sequence was too forced, too xtreme tv and kinda predictable too.
i loved the small bit where skylar takes out walter's boxers from the drawer and folds them nicely before putting them back. i actually really like her character, a stereotypical housewife forced to deal with a fucked up situation..

I think there's as much character in the seemingly uninteresting characters as you choose to read into them. I find Skyler and Walt Jr. pretty believable and fitting, both of em.

Now I'm going to stay the fuck out of this thread because I'm only up to the middle of season 2 and I've been skipping through the thread to avoid potential spoilers. Although I did spoil the fuck out of season 4 by watching the fucking trailer, jeez.

season 4 is the one that just started. The trailer has clips from season 3.

I agree that Skyler is not really that exciting of a character, but I feel she is very refreshing, and the show would never be the same without her. Her character in the show is the constant reminder of what sort of family Walt comes from and a reflection of the values that Walt once embraced, which provides a better perspective on Walt's character and makes him more interesting in his current setting. She is a very believable character and although her own story is not that interesting it provides the perfect contrast to some of the violence and extreme evil that Walt runs into on the show. This first episode seemed a little slow and seemed to only provide a resolution to the end of last season. At least it was still filmed just as well, but I have no idea where the show is going now, just that he is back to cooking for Gustavo.

The humor in this show kills me sometimes. It's usually little things. When Jesse was wearing that jack-o-lantern t-shirt, it was a snickering lol for me. When he tries to crash at an old friend's house and he gets out the bass, I lost it when the chorus was "FALLACIES, FALLACIES, FALLACIES". I loved it when the show intro detailed a typical day for Wendy the hooker as "Windy" by The Association played. Continuous with the previous season of "where's my root beer?" during Hank's interrogation, she drank several cans of Mug root beer in the montage. I wish I could think of some more but you guys probably know what I mean. I really appreciate layers of detail built into a show and this one has plenty to enjoy

i like how gus mirrors tuco's killing of his henchman at the beginning of season 2, but carries out the task in the exact opposite manner, with perfect tact and preparation

edit - i agree about the humor, it really holds the tension/release model of the show together. the scene in saul's waiting room was fucking hilarious.

it's been a while since i saw a throat slitting scene as graphic as that, maybe not since High Tension(?) that shit was insane. IT still amazes me the stuff Walking Dead & Breaking BAD gets away with. The preview clip they showed from walking dead like an Irreversible rock face smashing scene on a zombie, pure and simple nothing more. pretty hilarious actually they just know what people want to see 'lets just put that graphically violent rock face smashing scene as the preview with no dialog' 'great idea!'

edit: does the UK still have a lot more censorship in this department on BBC or other tv networks? I know they are far ahead of us on swearing at least judging by the Thick of IT.
