JAZZ - THE THREAD

I swear to zombie jesus there was a thread just like this like three weeks ago.

every week on every music forum there is a new jazz thread in which the same albums are mentioned

So the logical thing to do would be to just bump the old one, right?

First Meditations- John Coltrane. This is a good jumping off point from A Love Supreme. This is one of my favorites.

I would also look into Live at the Village Vanguard by Bill Evans. His playing is the best part of Kind of Blue, in my opinion.

Jazz just seems like instrumental wank to me.

Don't be a dick, bro. :trashbear:

And the all-time favorite:

As, I reckon, I've said before, this is my favourite ever musical piece. It gets me every time I listen.

Edit: I can't listen to that utube video. You need it clear and free on the mind when you listen. The remastered album is perfect for this recording.

wow that frank zappa jazz from hell sounds like the most forced wack ass "jazz" rock i've ever heard.

maybe i'm just a zap-noob.

A lot of his stuff is meant to be really tongue-in-cheek and kinda silly. And I think a lot of it is awesome. Listen to Hot Rats and The Grand Wazoo for some of the best in my opinion. He raised the interesting question of why do people object to humor in music? But some of his stuff I'm not big on either.

Alice Coltrane is mighty cool. FlyLo's Auntie's harp. Literally.

And all the kids pointed and laughed: zap-noob zap-noob zap-noob.

Naw but for real - listen to those melodies - sweet ass melodies and hectic riddims!!

Plus it's fully IDM - all done on the Synclavier except the last piece.

good man mr. dobalina.

I used to see them a ton, especially in the late 90s all around NYC. we used to go to the knitting factory every week to see them (Tuesday nights?) I remember seeing dj logic with them one of those weeks and before the show we were like wtf, they are going to play with a dj? wtf!!! at setbreak we were blazing with logic right at his turntable set up talking about music, it was great. what an eyeopener for me combining electronic beats with live improv jazz. i have probably seem them 30 or so times and it's great everytime.
