Interpol (which has been mentioned a few times already). For sure.

I like that track Evil from the second album 'Rosemary heaven restores you in light.....' but the first album (like Dj Shadow) gives you an inkling of great things to comes which never happens.

Boys Noize's "Power" is a lot worse/more annoying than "Oi Oi Oi".

I used to think this, but is grown on me now.

Maybe not a classic, but still pretty solid.

yeah weezer. pinkerton is cool but gets more credit than it deserves imo, context aside.

Weezer was my first thought also.

The Thermals - More parts per million
Violent Femmes
Guns n roses - appetite for destruction (obviously)
DEVO - q/a (a subtle decline, however)
Lou Reed - Transformer
Sex pistols - nmtb (again, obvious)
And in some respects, yes, pink floyd.

I can think of a lot of 2nd album career peaks:

Faith no more - introduce yourself
NIN - broken
High on fire - surrounded by thieves

Falling asleep :(

Actually, I'd like to add that BN is probably the only one of the electro dudes who broke in 06/07 who actually has been able to maintain quality.

The rest of them don't really know what sort of music they are making or who they are making it for.

I never said it didn't. It is still down hill from the starting mark, even if slightly.
My statement wasn't as casual as you'd like to belive. It was made with real passion and thought.
I will fight to the death that I am a bigger GNR fan than you are.
You wanna antagonize me, antagonize me motherfucker. Get in the ring motherfucker and I'll kick your bitchy little ass, PUNK.

Downhill is still downhill.

UYI has some classics, but I dare to say, not a single track on either UYI1/2 reaches the bar set by AFD, even at it's lowest (arguably, "Think About You")... IMO.
Fuck homie, GNR Lies is a near-flawless album, and that is still downhill from Appetite... although even lesser so.

To tell you the truth, Lies was always my favorite though, mostly because it was the first GNR album I bought.

Woah, really? Introduce Yourself was awesome, but I'd say King For A Day is light years ahead. Then again, I'm of the opinion that they stopped at their peak.

This thread is like listening to a bunch of people who think King Crimson never did anything better than ITCOTCK..

Devo is interesting in that you can almost believe the claim that they intentionally started as a band that liked obtuse lyrics & dabbled in non-4/4 time signatures/weird structures, then slowly turned themselves into a watered down pop music parody of themselves as evidence of their whole devolution argument.

Any other band, I'd say YEH SURE GUYS YOU GOT SHITTY ON PURPOSE YEH OKAY, but Devo I can sorta buy it.

I think in terms of 'going pop', it has a lot to do with the fact that decent catchy pop music is actually pretty hard to write. Once you've nailed the art of making weird-ass shit all the time, pop music just seems to be the next big challenge. At least from my experience anyway.
