happy to oblige

disco stoner metal? yes please.

i'm also completely and utterly addicted to sleep's 'sleep's holy mountain' lately, but that one is a fashionable one to like, i suppose.

Book of Horizons was the first Secret Chiefs 3 album to reveal the satellite bands that form the actual band under their own names. Out of the seven bands only one, NT Fan, was not heard on the album at all. The other six are The Electromagnetic Azoth, UR, Ishraqiyun, Traditionalists, Holy Vehm and FORMS. Since the release of Book of Horizons the satellite bands have seen several releases of their own.

what

It's all basically the same group of players, but Trey Spruance uses different sub-bands as an organizing principle for his pretty radically disparate compositions/arrangements

Holy Vehm is the SC3 "grindcore/metal" band
UR is sort of conceptualized as a cover band for a turkish surf rock group from the '70s (...)
Ishraqiyun will hit you with some traditional Afghan or Persian (etc) influenced stuff, is completely awesome
Electromagnetic Azoth is sort of electroacoustic/experimental
etc

(loosely)

And then on Book of Horizons he sets them off exploring certain themes and motifs and it somehow feels remarkably unified and cohesive

I love me some Naked City/Eye.

Zorn is pretty hit/miss these days, though, unfortunately

I should check out Mondo Cane again. I haven't really given it a proper listen yet. I don't know why. It's much better than a lot of recent Patton stuff, which was starting to feel like Mike just going through the expected Mike routine (edit for "imo")
