The textures on that album are just unworldly. Sleep are much more enlightened when it comes to structure though.

where does Isis net out in all this? I've always enjoyed the shit out of them. I wish tool never took them on tour. that annoyed me a bit.
Isis stand as having the best riff structure ever in this track
2:30 on is godly
4:30 on is gorgeous

I'm pretty sure Flood was on heavy rotation during the creation of Oceanic.
I wish Boris would do more like that.
Possibly some of my favorite heavy guitar sounds ever on both of those albums

Sleep are great but they can't step up to Electric Wizard. Dopethrone is the most perfect stoner album I've ever heard.

Yes, this guy know's what's up!
Like I said, Sleep's greatest strength is their structures. But The Wizard have better riffs.

but seriously, smethingam was looking for math stuff, not music with a hippie transcendental neither stoned goblins or "i live in an haunted cave get away from my cookies" like feeling...

*Nile doesn't even seem that tech to me. The rhythm riffs are really simple, just super fast. The leads get pretty technical though. But Karl isn't exactly held in high esteem as a guitarist for some reason.

don't know if i love or hate the 1st song you posted...Liturgy and The Locust are both super-IDM metal bands, although Liturgy is regarded as super hipster and The Locust is closer to noise rock than IDM. But I love them both.
the second one reminds me of test icicles, but crazier, fun stuff...
make sure you check this guy out if you haven't smetthingham...

Not digging this as much as Nile. I think i feel the way you do, only with Nile. I am not really into metal at all, that just strike a chord with me. Metal is IDM as fuck!Yeah, so after asking people time and time and time again on here about trying to get into metal (dont get me wrong, I got a ton of great recommendations but they usually only had a track or two that I liked..Gorgoroth and some 80s metal in particular), but GODDAMN is Meshuggah not the most IDM metal ever? FUCKING AWESOME
Check out this song and its idmness manifests in various ways:
1) The guitar part sounds like its being played like a fucking satanic sitar
2) The rhythms are constantly changing (listen carefully to the progression of the bass triplets)
3) The lyrics are incredibly abstract and usually have either scientific references or even more abstract religious references
4) The Drummer is. Fucking. Amazing.
5)The end sounds like something off of a Plaid album.
6) The bass triplets sound like a rhythm line from an old Aphex Twin track (the hardcore techno stuff, 92-95)
Goddamnit posted before I could finish...but the best part is that this isn't even near their best track (but definitely impressive. They even have jazzy solo sections.
