He's insanely funny when he gets all crazy but his brain is bananas in general no matter what he's talking about. I just laughed maybe the hardest the last 6 hours at his podcast clip of him wisperinglike a serial killer half the time about Shooting Craps In Las Vegas.

The best part is after he's done going on some huge rant, he completely admits to how full of shit he is.

Yup, Bill Burr is amazingly awesome, I had seen all of his stand up but thanks to this thread reminding me of his podcast, yesterday was one of the most lazy entertaining days of my life. In total I probably listened to his podcasts on his site and went through unseen and unheard Bill Burr clips on Youtube for a total of 8 hours yesterday... Lazy Sunday to teh max.. hah

Oh shit... completely forgot about the Greg Proops podcast. I listened to it a while back but stopped just because I had so much other stuff to listen to. Also, does anyone else find Kumail's wife kind of annoying? Personally, I think Blair Butler would make a better co-host.

Do anyone know any good history podcasts?

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History is more of a what if rather than a super-factual show, but it occasionally raises some very interesting questions/debates.

Yes, I find the Hardcore History podcasts super interesting. Especially the 'Ghosts of The Ostfront' episodes he did was amazing. Must listened to them 3 or 4 times. I wish he would cover more WWI/WWII history though.

Maybe you know some Audiobooks or something similar to those episodes?

I used to listen to one called 'In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg'. It was pretty good.

Thanks :) Will check it out.

getting a lot of good suggestions from this thread. thanks to all of you cats.

my contributions:

  • Stuff You Should Know (general knowledge topics, but it's usually interesting, and well done over all)
  • The Casual Distractions (a friend of mine is half of this project...not very active the past year but there's a backlog full of good stuff, and they may start doing new ones soon.)
  • Bleep Podcast (don't think anyone mentioned it yet)
  • Old Time Radio Mystery Theater (exactly what it sounds like, if you're into that sort of thing)

keep the audio podcasts in particular coming folks

If that's the one that I am thinking of, Im not sure if its on audiobook, but there is an absolutely amazing and harrowing book called Ordinary Men....about Polish citizens that were formed into an SS extermination squad...really breaks down those imposed boundaries we all comfortably dictate the war from, "Nazis=pure evil", "Hitler is the embodiment of the Christian Devil" etc. etc...this book made them incredibly human (especially considering the fact that they weren't even German...some of them fought in the Polish Army against the Nazis!) and it makes the whole outlook more human but simultaneously far more terrifying because you no longer have those comfortable objective black/white connotations about the Second World War and the Holocaust.

also the author Christopher Browning got involved in a legendary debate with pseudo-historian Daniel Goldhagen over this book...Goldhagen accused him of sympathizing with perpetrators of genocide....until Goldhagen's work was ripped apart on the opposite premise with far far more evidence against him.

There's this really interesting sub-group of historians within Third Reich studies that inherently oppose each other, intentionalists vs. functionalists which might shed some more light on these really intense disputes.

I do have to admit Emily has grown on me a bit, since I first started listening to it. I think it's just the way she, sometimes, agrees too much with what everyone is saying. It reeks a bit of her being afraid of giving her opinion and probably just wanting to be a good host. Like I said, it doesn't bother me as much anymore because she can be genuinely funny. The previous co-host, on the other hand; she's was on a recent episode and just came off like ass. Not funny, not really that articulate. Made me appreciate Emily a lot more.

Also, a question for everyone... do you actually find comedic sound effects during a radio show/podcast funny? I'm of the opinion that 99.9% that shit is comedy death. I've been listening to The Champs lately and their dj (DJ Douggpound) is fucking terrible. The sound isn't great already but he frequently interrupts interviews with irrelevant audio clips that make everyone say, "wtf was that?!" I know he's got some connection to Tim and Eric so maybe he's TRYING to work on some "so bad it's good" level but it just comes off bad. Having said all this I will admit to Bald Brian making me chuckle a few times when I used to listen to Carolla's podcast.
