Mmmm yeah I wasn't too sure about the logo myself, still haven't made my mind-up about it.

Isn't it nicked from those Yes albums of the 1970's?

Pssh. Both records are godlike, and scratch an entirely different itch. At least for me.

Ordered the CD package with the shirt and poster. Not really sure why this would be any good on vinyl, despite my default-setting of Oh-Look-Vinyl-Googly-Eyes-Must-Buy-Now. I have no desire to get fried and put on an hour long Sleep track and have to get up to change sides on that shit.

This. Southern Lord already previewed a bit of the remastered version and it sounded fucking heavy. It deserves being on Southern Lord!

I listened to the re-mastered version of Sleep's Holy Mountain, an album that desperately needed better production. I was disappointed when i discovered through multiple listens that all they really did was up the volume... Hope its a bit better for Dopesmoker

Why the hell would anyone compare those two anyway? Two vastly different bands, unless of course someone is making the broad generalization that they're worth comparing because they play stoner music and like Black Sabbath.

Sleep is technically more proficient, yes. And stoner metal is a pretty specific genre.

But Electric Wizard's Dopethrone is like a mammoth that doesn't give a fuck. I do like both bands. I was speaking in hyperbole because of just how much I like Dopethrone.

Understandable - I too savor Dopethrone, although I guess the primary difference between the two for me would simply be that Dopethrone is a record I crank up and play air guitar and headbang to, and Holy Mountain/Dopesmoker are records I put on when I want to feel something so heavy and oppressive that I'm overwhelmed (same mood I get into for Earth 2 or early Sunn o))), really). But yeah, Dopethrone is incredibly good, like TOO good for its own good actually. My blood gets going as soon as I hear "THE WIZARD...."

Stop arguing about those two amazing albums. I don't want to have to come into a thread like this and have people bitch about either album, because that's lose-lose for me.

Fucking stoked for this. Should I vinyl?

Vinyl is almost always the best bet, but as I stated previously, I'm not sure what the point of doing a vinyl release is when the music in question is an hour-long track that has to be split up on sides. This is why there isn't much Eliane Radigue vinyl out there. Sometimes a CD really is a better format.

Granted, it could be cool to still have the wax from a collector's standpoint, but since I just welcomed my first child into the world 2 weeks ago, practicality has been weighing on my wallet much more heavily...

Still, if any album was aesthetically suited for wax it would be this. You have a very valid point about track divisions though...

also, I'm a fan of the logo.

As someone who owns Southern Lord's vinyl re-issue of Absolutego (an album much more comparable to this then Dopethrone, I might add), I'm totally gonna get this on vinyl. Yeah, it's kinda awkward flipping sides for such an immense track, but it really does sound glorious, and it definitely seems like Southern Lord is giving this an analogous treatment.

I'm also just so stoked to see this album finally get such a definitive release. The recording process was really impressive, and it's so sad it's taken so long for it to get this quality of release.
