So, my last day of signing on at the job centre.

It's about 25ºC in Widnes, by the north-west coast, so it's pretty hot and humid here.

I've walked 3 miles to get there, and as some of you may or may not know, I'm a scrawny skinny cunt so I dehydrate pretty easily.

I get in the job centre and enter the queue, take out a bottle of soft drink that I had purchased 5 mins prior to entering the building and I open the bottle with a hiss of carbon dioxide.

And then the security guard comes up and tells me "can you put the top back on that please."

"What? Why?"

"It's policy, you can't drink in here"

"I'm not going to spill it, it's a hot day..."

"Can you put the top back on." (notice that I am not putting a question mark on these demands, that is because I wasn't asked - I was told. the tone of this security guard was authoritative from the get go.)

"This is bullshit."

"No it's not bullshit..."

"Yes it is. It's a hot day, I've just walked 3 miles to get here, and you're treating my like a 5 year old."

"I'm not treating you like a 5 year old..."

"Yes you are. I haven't spilled a drink since I was 3. I've had it with this place, I do not appreciate being patronised. Don't ever patronise me again. Now go away."

Bearing in mind that the job centre have been continually...difficult, especially in the past few months, hence my little outburst here.

I understand that there are policies, but they should be exercised in context. It is rather hot and humid here at the moment. A swig from a bottle of drink on a hot summer day should not get the fucking gestapo response.

Just needed to rant, guys.

Anyone else had any similar bullshit?

not with/at the job center, but i s'pose some security guards and bouncers have a bit of a weird power complex and get a buzz out of telling people off and threatening people. same goes for some police officers and traffic wardens. - wankers.

too fucking right. this guy was all up in my face too. I don't take being patronised by anyone. especially not some jobsworth fucking security guard.

That's pretty annoying. While we're on rants, i want to have one.

yesterday I saw a clearly drunk middle aged couple enjoying a blowjob in the local kids park. Who the fuck does that?
I was morally outraged and appalled.

he told me "I'm just doing my job" and I replied with "no, you're patronising me. get out of my fucking face and go away" in a quiet but stern voice.

its a pretty simple rule, you cant drink in the job centre. its so that jakeys dont just decant booze into lilt cans and sit getting fucked in the jobcentre.

simple solution, have a quick drink outside, then go in and get on with it.

alternatively, make a scene and break the rules. get your benefit rescinded.

No, rules like that need to be exercised in context. I don't look like a 'jakey', and it's a really hot and humid day. So it is reasonable to assume that if someone looks like they've just walked 3 miles (which I did), in this heat, that they're going to be taking a drink for reasons of not being dehydrated.

He was being a patronising cunt. End of story.

The bouncers at the job center are retards. They frequently realize that they have nothing to do so they find something to do.

lots of people who dont look like jakeys would decant alcohol into cans of drink and then try to drink in the jobcentre. me for example. the rule has a reason for it, and i really dont see the issue with having a drink outside, then going in.

Did he go away? Did you keep drinking? I'm surprised he didn't escort you out the building once you swore, claiming that you were becoming hostile.

Sounds like this 'security guard' was probably queuing up with everyone else a few months ago and he's the sort that takes his pretty lame job so seriously (and that he's so pathetically bored) that he enforces someone opening a drink.

Nothing you can do but gripe and just do what you want regardless really. The world is shit and job centres are one of the best places to find the most inept and idiotic members of society... Unfortunately, that may mean you too.

Joking. But best of luck getting out of that place. I've signed on a couple of times and I have never once found a decent job, or been put into work by them.

the job centre is completely useless for getting a job, aside from the fact that they now dont give you your money unless you actually look for one yourself. 3 acts of jobseeking a week, or no money, its a pretty good idea actually. ive still not found a job though.

To be fair, the first thing I thought was that some people might even have vendetta's against their job-seekers and throw acid over them. That shit happens.

Again, in context - it is a really hot day. He was being a cunt by not understanding this.

Did he go away? Did you keep drinking? I'm surprised he didn't escort you out the building once you swore, claiming that you were becoming hostile.

He stood behind me, slightly to the back of the queue. No I didn't drink, I wasn't even able to get the one swig that I wanted to get. I just made it clear that I wasn't going to just stand there and take being patronised in public by him.

the job centre is completely useless for getting a job, aside from the fact that they now dont give you your money unless you actually look for one yourself. 3 acts of jobseeking a week, or no money, its a pretty good idea actually. ive still not found a job though.

Definitely true. Job Centres are fucking useless. I've had very little support with getting back into work, even though that's what they're there for. To them, the unemployed are the dregs of society. And today I'd had enough of the condescension.

I would have stepped outside, chugged my drink, and then walked back in all while giving the rent-a-cop the stink eye. Then I would have schmoozed my way into a six figure job. I have a problem with authority, so I can relate to Oscillik on this one.

A lot of people who have jobs that gives them a sense of authority (cops, guards etc.), were people who were bullied in school and wants to get back at the society that treated them bad. Just feel sorry for them, and move on. they deserve a little happiness too.

Same thing that makes the people that go in there with hoodies over their heads, and their phones bleeping and ringing, and people that have loud conversations think that the rules shall not apply.

Except me taking a drink to stop myself getting dehydrated on a hot summer day is not an unreasonable thing.

I don't really see the problem. If there's a rule against drinking any kind of beverages then you follow that rule. If it's something that gets you mad then you're in desperate need of a hobby or something to take your mind of unimportant things like not being allowed to have a sip of water.

By the way, what were you doing in a job centre? I thought you just got a job at a call center?

Starting next Monday, as I said in the first sentence of my post "...my last day of signing on".

Interesting to see how many jobsworths here are agreeing with the rules.

Also, the thing that got me mad was a culmination of being dicked around by the staff at the job centre over many months. These people really do look down upon those who are unemployed, and treat them as if they were dirt on their shoe. I don't take anyone patronising me, or looking down upon me in such a manner, and this guy lit my fuse. It's nothing to do with having a hobby. You can only push someone so far before they snap.

i've been unemployed since february and i have to call the job centre once a month and "report" how im doing in my search for a job, if i don't do enough they cut my benefits (which amounts to like 30 euro / day or some crap, im mainly living off of my music sales atm). everytime i call them i feel like im talking to customer support for some computer company or whatever, their advice always consist of the most basic no brainer "have you tried turning it off and on again?" bullshit. this week i have to go there in person and i have a feeling they're gonna try and force me to go back to driving a cab (which is the one job i'll never ever want to do again), since "cab drivers are always needed". i've told them i'll do fucking anything, but still they insist that i should be actively looking for cab work. fuck em. hope they don't read watmm. /somewhatofftopicrant
