A former Wall Street trader and Yale-educated attorney, who was convicted of arson yesterday for burning down his Phoenix mansion, appeared to pop a pill after hearing the guilty verdict in court and died minutes later, according to Fox 10 News in Phoenix via New York Daily News.

Michael James Marin, who once reached the summit of Mount Everest, was convicted in Maricopa County Superior Court "of arson of an occupied structure" after setting his $3.5 million Biltmore Estates mansion on fire because he could no longer pay his $17,500 monthly mortgage, according to media reports.

At the time, he was reportedly found outside the home wearing a SCUBA gear after escaping from the second-floor.

The video in court shows Marin appearing to swallow something after hearing the jury read the verdict.

Moments later he started having convulsions and was pronounced dead before he arrived at the hospital, the reports said.

Maricopa County authorities told Fox 10 News they can't verify the cause of death until the toxicology report results come out.

The New York Daily News points out that the crime would have put Marin away for about 16 years.

What an idiot. Not for taking a suicide pill to avoid 16 years jail (I probably would too; being incarcerated is probably my biggest fear), but burning your own house because you can't afford to pay it off anymore? Can't you just declare bankruptcy and start again?

It's called cultural brainwashing. The idea that "what we do is very important", and when it's threatened because of how fragile it is, one reaches for the cyanide. Don't be afraid.

Why not? It's just bullshit. Noise. I'm amazed that one would kill themselves simply because of the IDEA of what they would be facing for the next 16 years. And I'm amazed by the governmental fascist preaching by the judges and other puppets. The chaos and mystery of the dude's death rattles demonstrate how fucking shallow that is. It's absolutely amazing, in a strange way.

I believe that the real Michael J. Marin is quite different from the carefully scripted versions he gives and I believe that he acts without a moral compass or conscious.

Coincidentally, in an email message I sent earlier in 2009, I wrote, "I feel like Michael Marin is a church arsonist and I am the only person who knows he is walking around with matches and gas-soaked rags."
