"to hear music the way its creators intended, with the emotion, detail, and power intact." ponomusic

"beats would allow people to "hear what the artists hear, and listen to the music the way they should: the way I do." beats headphones

what's next? they'll begin selling us producer ears that we can graft ontop of our own ears so we can have "an ear like your favorite producer. hear exactly what they hear"

btw: ponomusic sounds too much like pornomusic. personally, i like the sound of mp3 more so pono loses just on cool sounding basis

i'm reading comments from the suckers that gave neil young money for this toberlone bar. turns out around may, pono music was supposed to go online to customers who help fund the kickstarter. currently (june 18th) no live pono music.

everyone else has been buying $1,000 plus headphones and high recorded players and amps in anticipation of the high quality pono

I'd love to put my $30 clip+ w/ $10 sd card against that in a blind listening test. Fools & money yo.

I love my Clip and am on my second one but that 'cricket chirping' noise they make would be a giveaway to anyone who's owned one.

Ipod nano for gardening, gym, and baking. Usually get immersed in my work and forget it's on due to it being so small & weightless.

When you first turn it on or during actual playback? I don't doubt what yours saying but I've never had that problem myself. The original firmware was a little buggy for me (just breathing on it wrong would cause it to 'refresh' the media library), but everything's been great since rockboxing it.

I just retired my iPod Classic in favour of my iPhone and iTunes Match, I didn't want to carry around 2 devices. It's a compromise though, I don't like how Apple have fucked up the clean, simple navigation, now you tap on an artist and you get a list of every track on an album under the title which makes it a pain to scroll down. It also lists albums by release date (newest first) as opposed to the iPod which did it alphabetical. Lots of other niggles too, like since the iOS 7.1 update tracks no longer pre-cache, so there's a small gap between tracks, they better fix that in 8

I have had two clips and I have no idea what you mean by that!

If it's the sound I'm thinking of, my Zen Stone used to do the same thing. I think the processor or something sometimes struggled to buffer the samples in time leading to the occasional digital wobble.

My best guess is it's a kind of buffering noise like mcbpete said. It's very distinctive and audible on quieter sections but it's not always there and I'm not exactly sure how to reproduce it. Never investigated because it doesn't bother me, I'm not even sure that it's specific to certain files. Maybe big (lossless) files or large album art in the tags or something would provoke it. I mostly notice it when I'm out running and have it playing for longer periods of time. Maybe the thing just gets tired.

I'm still using this old baby from 2006. I like it a lot, it's got a no shit user interface and the software is hassle free..but it's an HDD so it's quite heavy. I even sent it back to the service centre a few years ago at great expense to put a new battery in it.

I have been tempted by the new mp3 players but i'm disinterested in all the extra shit that they're capable of, it's primarily for music. Plus I cannot be arsed transferring my music library onto a new system, it's time consuming as shit and i don't have most of it backed up on the computer anyway, so this machine will have to last me till death.

Yeahhh I had that thing. Sacked it off though because the battery went to shit and my cable broke, which was annoying as it's a propriety Sony cable and it was a fucker getting a new one. Sony said they won't provide a replacement and if I want a new USB cable I should buy a new MP3 player. That was pretty much decided when Sony can fuck themselves.

If you need a new MP3 that's simply an MP3 player mate, look into the Sansa Clip. Shit hot.

Just had the battery charge become unusably short on my second Sansa Clip+ and noticed there's a 'Clip Sport' now with different internals at roughly the same price the Clip+ used to be, I'll be giving that one a shot.

Cheap sony mp3 walkmans. Sound better than iPods (using the headphone jack that is), no colouring of sound, just mp3s through my oversized headphones. True, they don't last long--I suspect the gold plating on my headphones kills the jack inside the mp3 player--but I can't see myself changing soon. Unless a cheap variant appears that does flac too.

I'm known around town as 'that tall gimp with the large headphones'. :music:

edit: I seem to end up as the first post on a new page in every thread I post in
