The family of a missing 73-year-old DJ, who played sets at Glastonbury, have organised a search in Bristol.

DJ Derek, whose real name is Derek Serpell-Morris, was reported missing last Thursday but is believed to have been missing for several weeks.

Police have confirmed that his bank account has not been used since the beginning of July.

His great-niece, Jenny Griffiths, said: "We're trying to stay positive and hope that we're going to get good news."

'Not gone abroad'

She said: "We are extremely worried. The longest he's ever been away is about a week and he's always in touch with the family.

"So on Thursday we've arranged a search. We're going to get as many people as we can together and try and cover as much area as we can.

"He's an amazing person with a heart of gold.

Police have confirmed to the family, that the 73-year-old does not have a current passport and has "definitely not gone abroad"

"He can't go on a bus without someone spotting him or giving him a round of applause."

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed to the family that the 73-year-old does not have a current passport and has "definitely not gone abroad".

Det Insp Mark Langdon said they were "growing increasingly concerned" for his wellbeing.

"Derek has a hobby of visiting each new Wetherspoon's pub which opens in the region and further afield," he said.

"So we have liaised with Wetherspoon and they have circulated our appeal."

The former accountant, a resident of St Pauls in Bristol since 1978, has played numerous gigs across the UK and appeared at Glastonbury Festival and the Big Chill.

He also released his own compilation album, worked with Massive Attack and appeared in a Dizzee Rascal video.

The search party is due to retrace the DJ's steps from Corn Street, where he was last seen, to his home.

He has been missing for 3 weeks now, and it looks like a proper organised search is under way.

At first I figured he was probably larging it at some mega after party, or had gone to Jamaica to buy some new tunes.

But it seems he is properly missing and I fear the worst :(

Seen him DJ a couple of times and he is awesome.
