Looking for a book similar to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

ye ye red dwarf book is sick.

 

i found Foundation to be pretty similar to hitchhikers guide ... but with the colourful wit replaced with a much drier wearier wit. but it's sci fi wit nonetheless, methinks.

lol yeah Asimov wrote some great sci-fi but it's the driest shit you'll ever come across.

 

The Illuminatus trilogy is the most similar series I've read, combines the wit of Hitchhikers with the mid-sentence scene-jumping plotline of Catch 22, in a surreal but vaguely sci-fi setting

I recommend "Earth Inc" by Michael Bollen.

You may know him under his Cassetteboy alias, but he wrote this rather nifty sci fi dystopia novel too

I was a big fan of Robert Rankin when I was a kid.

 

Yeah same, he's decent but a lot of it is the same so only read a couple.

 

Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith maybe? It's darkly comic and sci-fi, very good too.
