Recommend me stuff to do in Paris / Berlin

Its my birthday and I'm taking myself to Paris to lurk around. Looking for heads up on Bars, Record Stores, Foods and any gigs that might be on. I'm there from the 11th - 24th of May. Planning to go to Berlin for a couple of days at some point, I'm flying in and out of Paris and haven't organized transport to Berlin yet - so open to suggestions for fun ways to do that

Best thing to do in Berlin: buying a train ticket and going to Hamburg, or any other goddamn city

Why though? I might go to Berlin soon.

I've only been to Berlin once and I loved it. There's plenty to do even if you don't plan anything. Walk around Kreuzberg, grab a coffee, eat a döner, do a little shopping etc. I had no idea what to do when I arrived in Berlin and I ended up not having one quiet moment where I didn't know what to do next.

Yeah, Berlin is good for just checking out the different neighbourhoods and chancing upon stuff. Do all the touristy shit in Paris the first two days, just to get it done, get drunk. Paris is best done as Berlin to me, just walk around, take the metro, pop up and see some shit.

The Hamburger Banhof in Berlin is cool if you're into contemporary art, there's also tons of little galleries tucked away all over the city, some of them shit, some brilliant.

In Paris there's the Pailais de Tokyo and a cluster of galleries in Rue Vieille du temple and in rue du temple. Xippas in particular usually have something interesting to see.

There's also a ton of more famous museums to check out, but honestly, get some good cheese, charcuterie and fresh artisanal baguettes, a bottle of rose (or some decent beer), a blanket and go chill in a park (if you've got a partner with you). Rue montergeuil will provide these things, but so will any monoprix to be honest. I also have a soft spot for the marchee des enfants rogue, which is a nice place to grab some lunch, it's a become a bit too touristy and busy honestly, but I still love it.

To put it simply: walk around Paris with a slight buzz, all the time everywhere, grab a chair at a local cafe, grab a beer or some wine. Take it easy. Enjoy spring. The same goes for Berlin. Don't worry too much about what you might be missing.

^ agree, just hang out, see where it takes you. Just consult the interwebs whenever you feel like doing something particular, e.g. parties etc.

Actually I do recommend the following: Eat at all the burger locations on one day. Walk between the burger joints for digestive assistance. If you do that, I'd join ya.

I spent a week in Paris last summer.

There is an awesome bookstore in Paris called Shakespeare & Company. They have a piano on the second floor, as well as various reading rooms.

Go walk through the Luxembourg Gardens. Gorgeous place, especially coupled if you've got gorgeous music playing on gorgeous headphones.

I believe I looked through a couple record stores. Never bought anything, because this was before I started collecting, but was still interested in them. I remember there was one store that had a thing for Madonna. Can't recall the name right now. There was also a record store that was closed when I was exploring. It had a sign out front in french that I think went like "we'll be closed for a week."

I do distinctly remember having Exai finally click with me while walking through the Louvre.

What else....the catacombs are pretty cool (WEAR A JACKET IF YOU GO DOWN THERE) . I took a few pictures in there that look like metal album covers.

I've never been to Germany, so I can't help you there.

never been myself, apparently attracts quite the annoying trash kiddo crowd.

But I was told TM404 was great live there.

There's several options for caverny things.

Berghain always worth a try but need a bit of luck to get in during club nights.
