find investors. take watmm to the next level. you have a great idea here and it deserves to be fully realized. the skeletons of great ideas to be built upon..

On this note I would recommend after the revamp to do low priced ads on facebook to boost exposure. You can spend as little as $1 per ad, and with the very specific nature of this forum, you can lower the target audience which will improve click-through.

we have tshirts last i remember... the wattm logo or something

i dont think there should be any competition with discogs. there is no reason to. what watmm could do a great job at is aggregating live releases (aka a better downloads section), rare images and interviews. The peripheral elements of an artists work that *wouldn't* appear on a discogs main page. (yes i know some of that stuff is secreted away on discogs vaults but f that)

but please please please as simple as possible. we don't need anything like "WELCOME TO LUKE VIBERT'S PAGE. VIBERT IS KNOWN FOR CRAZY, SQUELCHY ACID LINES AND CLASSIC TRIP HOP BEATS"

Shirts on one of those zazzle type sites, or did we do them here at some point? If so I missed that.

The forums alone will bring lots of changes (far too many to detail right now in this post), but what would you, the WATMM community, like to see? Think of this as a "can we fix" or "could we have" bug/feature request, so hopefully the most good and reasonable ideas can be researched and tested.

Would you consider switching to a tree-like thread layout (like reddit), as opposed to the current linear layout? I'm thinking that message indentation helps a lot with readability, you don't have to quote much text, et cetera.

it's be pretty easy to toggle between a nested view and a linear one, as long as the database supports the right links between things. don't think a nested view makes much sense on here though, there's rarely the post count in any thread to warrant it.

Better forum polls.

The current poll only allows 50 options per question, and it requires there be at least one answer per question. So if you want to post a single question with ~500 answers, as I regularly do, you end up with slightly biased results.

Ultra condensed format, where there is no wasted space at all,

YLC autoplayer, pic threads gallery yes!

Built in plug.tv type music player for CHATMM,

And a thing so that instead of banning people, you make their name pink like in the Joe Rogan forum, and they have their own subforum where they can post, but they can't post in the main one

An end to censorship of porn etc.

As you said before, do something to acknowledge our hermit-ness!

Ah, that... well, that's a HARD one - totally up to Richard, and I think at this point he's given up on that idea and went back to making music.

gah, come on tell us what it was!

More CHATMM features, yes!

Also, is there any way to make chatmm load faster? Because right now it takes about 90 seconds to load, which seems a bit wonky.

More themes as well, please. And an autechre emoji.

some code that automatically hides/spoliers when someone quotes pictures/videos/embeds of any kind so that you don't end up with enormous walls where everyone has quoted the same thing

The forum equivalent of symlinks - Like you could create a new Aphex Twin release topic and put the same thread in both the New Releases *and* the Aphex Twin sub-forums. The same topic but in two (or more) places and they both point to the same topic id

I will look into this... with the new CMS, it will be possible to have a news story be linked to a thread, or a thread "promoted" to a news story, but I will see if there is anything like this in the new system currently.

find investors. take watmm to the next level. you have a great idea here and it deserves to be fully realized. the skeletons of great ideas to be built upon..

I did that before with joyrex.com... and I ended up losing the domain, which now a domain squatter owns and I'm not going to pay 5 figures for something that only means anything to me.

Did this years ago... http://watmm.spreadshirt.com/ Probably will revamp after the launch if the demand is there.

There is a new feature called Activity Feeds that has sort of what you are talking about... and quoting is MUCH better in the new system.

Better forum polls.

Um, if you have a poll where there is more than 50 items, you might want to re-think your poll. Nobody is going to read through all that!

Condensed Format: I suppose you mean less margins and spacing between lines... not sure if there would be much demand for this, but that would probably best be done via a theme. We'll see.

Another vote for a Gallery!

I doubt the current (or even the new CHATMM) would or could have that, since the forum software company hosts that themselves. However, if we consider an alternative chat engine like DISCORD or RocketChat or similar, that might be possible. The main thing any 3rd party chat has to have is integration with the forum to control access.

Putting banned people in their own forum just allows them to keep behaving badly - given enough banned people, and then they have their own Island of Misfit Toys, which I really don't want to even think about. Nope on that one.

Porn - there's plenty of sites for that; WATMM finally has some semblance of credibility now that we got rid of that, so no chance of that ever coming back.

I believe the new forum chat doesn't have that issue.

I do want more themes for the forum, and the new theming system should make this easier. To start off with, we'll launch with WATMM Classic which will be updated a bit (since I never really finished it), as well as a WATMM Classic [litesout rmx] darker theme, for those who prefer light text on a dark background.

Autechre emoji - we had one... all the emoji need an overhaul though anyway so the can support HiDPI screens on desktop and mobile.

nice tits thread

Erm, no - again, porn is all over the internet; no need for it here.

Simplicity

Lightness

Speed

Maybe an option to start playback of embedded video at a specific time point in the video (time tags)

Simplicity would be via a theme, so a minimalist theme might be an option.

I equate lightness and speed as the same thing, or do you mean lightness in terms of colours? Again, themes.

Speed - I think themes that do not rely on fixed backgrounds will help in that regard, or possibly updating some techniques so they are not so browser-heavy. The new forum works across mobile and desktop, so totally agree on that aspect.

The new media embeds are much better than before - I'll see if there is a "begin playback at a certain point" feature. If not, I am sure we could tweak it so it could be an optional parameter when pasting in a YouTube or similar tag.

As mentioned, the quoting system is much better (you can even highlight parts of text to quote rather than quote the entire post). Not sure how pictures and embeds are handled, but that's a good idea to automagically collapse those in quoted posts.

There's an addon for the new forum I just came across that "lazy loads" YouTube embeds by generating a screenshot rather than embedding the video, and only loading the embedded video when the screenshot is clicked on. This would help threads like Favourite YouTube Videos where there is literally pages of nothing but video embeds and it takes awhile to load.

dank / shitposting subforum pls. you can make it so it doesn't contribute to post count and it can still be moderated as to not have it turn into XLT, but i just can't imagine this crowd flying that badly off the handle. we're pretty good eggs. it'd just be rad to have this purely creative weird space for dumb jokes and experiments. sort of like a sandbox.

Despite you thinking this is a good idea on the surface, by "encouraging" this kind of behaviour, people will lean more towards doing so, and possibly fracture the community into people that want to do this versus those who don't.

The reason I think WATMM is "working" at long last is because we as a community finally have a balance of knowing what is and isn't acceptable, and for the most part we keep within those boundaries. By having a place to do this, people are more prone to posting nonsense, and it will inevitably spill out into the forums proper. It's the same argument against having an "adults only" section.

There's other sites for this kind of nonsense; let's keep WATMM primarily about the music and electronic music culture, and leave the other sites to handle that stuff.

Long polls are not ideal, that's true. But they are a necessary step in the MOST IDM tournament.

If you can't make it happen we can continue to work around it. I'm just letting you know it's one way in which the current forum software is not supporting our use of it.

Less vertical space taken up, many forums do that and I hate it. In our case (at least in the IP Board theme which I use, btw please keep it or something similar i hate watmm classic) the user info often defines the height of the post, not the actual content of the post. like, ITT for example, juiceciuj's post a bit up falls into one line of text the width of my browser, yet his 'post' takes up like 15x the height of that text, because the post height is defined by his user info, which includes his avatar (necessary), the little quote above (imo necessary), his forum status (unnecessary), his country (listed as not selected even!, unnecessary), psn, etc...like, most of that info should be readily available if you were to hover over or click on his name (basically how it already is now!) but isn't necessary for me to see every single time he posts.

Just cutting down to the name/avatar/one snarky line of text above the avatar (as it currently is!) would cut the scrolling for the user in about half. There'd be issues with avatar size, signatures, etc., but nonetheless the huge tracts of blank screen that I so often see in a rolling lol is something that's always irked me. Tiny irk, but an irk. :)

A quoting system that encourages users to quote just the specific bit they're replying to ;)

The new forum software does exactly that - you can quote an entire post, or simply highlight the bits you want, and it will give you the option to quote the part you highlighted.

No, I hear your pain - I think a "condensed" view would be pretty cool, and I've seen other themes do this.
