"In October 1962, John Cage and his great interpreter/co-visionary David Tudor visited Japan, performing seven concerts and exposing listeners to new musical worlds. This legendary "John Cage Shock," as it was dubbed by the critic Hidekazu Yoshida, is the source of this series of releases -- three CDs and a "best hits" double LP compilation. Recorded primarily at the Sogetsu Art Center in Tokyo on October 24, 1962 (with two performances from October 17 at Mido-Kaikan in Osaka), all recordings in this series are previously-unreleased. A major historical trove, unearthed. The performances on this tour featured Cage and Tudor with some noteworthy Japanese musicians playing …

"Once having said that he has 100 albums in him, it seems the former Zev Love X is getting overwhelmed, if at least a bit. “I have so many starting points, I have to be careful,” DOOM explains. I have to, like, put in an order, or else I’ll get lost in it. And one will ever get anything from me ever again; you’ll have the Super Villain going in circles.” He certainly seems to have no time to brush up on his contemporaries. When asked if he respected label mate Homeboy Sandman and the tour-de-force that is Action Bronson, for their humored hip-hop, he simply said, “Never heard of them. I don’t get a chance to listen to new stuff.” He did have nothing but praise for BDP’s C…

An amazing record that I pretty much can't stop listening to. Highly recommended. If you liked Recondite - On Acid, you'll love this. Resident Advisor 4.5/5 "Those of us blessed (or, from another perspective, cursed) with a reasonably all-consuming fascination with electronic music will be familiar with those albums that are—while ultimately rewarding ventures—a bit of an effort to get into. You know they are with merit and know you should be enjoying them (and eventually you usually do), but it still feels like a chore to sit down and listen to them from start to finish. Anyone craving a break from such electronically-induced troubles need look no further than A …

"Deadbeat is ready to release his eighth studio album, simply titled Eight. The LP will come out on BLKRTZ, the label Monteith launched last year. It shows him continuing to refine the lurching style of dubby techno that's been his calling card for over a decade. He's joined in the studio by fellow Berlin-based Canadian Mathew Jonson, plus Cobblestone Jazz member Danuel Tate. Chilean minimal mainstay Dandy Jack makes an appearance as well. The album features all previously unreleased tracks, except for "Horns of Jericho," which came out this month on Dandy Jack's Rebirth EP. It will be available in September on triple-vinyl as well as digitally and on CD." http://…

"Adikia is phenomenal, a scattered, moving dissembling of a moment. With music like this, there seems to be an obvious marriage between composition and improvisation, where the composer creates a set of moments, or rules, or an environment within which each musician is free to fill spaces accordingly. This group does this masterfully, which is to be expected. Alongside longtime favorites, like Kai Fagaschinski (clarinet), Werner Dafeldecker (double bass), and Paul Wirkus (percussion), are revelations, like Eva Reiter (viola di gamba, subcontrabass recorder) and Bjorn Gottstein (viola). Todosch's performance on voice, especially, is flooring. Whatever Ehlers set in front o…

"tonikom's third release on hymen records could be described as a concept album, because it manages to tell a hidden and very personal story, one that can only be found between the lines. after successfully completing her european tour in 2009, rachel maloney felt she lost the bridge between herself and her music which resulted in a spell of creative inactivity which lasted for two years. fortunately, she was able to break this vicious circle by breaking through the emotional blocks and rediscovering everything she identified with in the emotional makeup of this project. on 'found and lost', tonikom continues to defy genres and explore various styles of contemporary elect…

"Neo Ouija's main men, Lee Norris (Norken/Metamatics) and Martin Hirsch (Deer) link up on a sleek suite of groove-driven and harmonically complex electronica for the long-running Hydrogen Dukebox label. "Titled in reference to the fictional libertine Don Juan, Lee began work on the album in late 2010 before Martin joined the production process in February 2011. With Lee settled in the Devonshire countryside and Martin running his various operations from Germany, the collaborative process was meticulously assembled remotely with both parties using both cutting-edge software and an array of old and new analogue equipment. Upon completion, the resulting ten tracks were then …

Hello everybody, I know a while back, there was some interest in my dub techno project SEAS with David Tagg - we released a short-run CD-R and 12" back in 2009 and then went into hibernation... Well, we're finally back again, and we've got a new 80 minute album (and corresponding EP), a reissue of the debut album from 2009 (with the vinyl exclusive track " ") and not one but two massive digital compendiums of field recordings/textures/white noise/atmospheres that make up the source of the backdrops from the SEAS albums. To keep everything together, we've put up a new microsite for the band, packed with information: http://seas.recycled-plastics.net/ …
