I just got John Coltrane's A Love Supreme as well as Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Can anyone here make other suggestions of great jazz albums? Never knew I would like jazz but in fact I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Dunno if this has been done or if it will work. Same thing as the film thread, except with albums. Rule: You must've listened through the whole album recently. Don't talk about some album you had heard a year ago, or an album where you've heard a couple of tracks out of from some playlist or whilst shuffling your library. Also, it'd be nice if you gave us some sort of idea what the genre is, or what it sounds like. Anyways, here goes. Oval's Wohnton (1992): 7/10 It's essentially Oval's later glitch sound mixed with Trip-Hop and a German vocalist. As a result, it's a lot more accessible than Oval's other work. I'll have to give it another listen through.

We have a jazz thead. Why souldn't we have a Hip Hop/Rap thread aswell? When i was younger.. All i listened to was hip hop. I haven't listened or been into for a couple of years now, but i'm starting to get into it again. It's genre which contain some of the best and worst music ever made. I can understand why some people love it, and why some people hate it. But awful rap music seems to be a more nowadays kind of thing, so much amazing rap music was made in the 80's & 90's. As a big fan of US Hip-Hop during the golden years of Public Enemy, NWA, Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, I kind of lost interest when it became more about the money, mainstream success and high production values. Step forward to 1999 and an album that past me by at the time - MF Doom Operation: Doomsday. In fact I only got to know DOOM by 2004 when he released Madvillain with Madlib and for me it was a real revelation mixing the abstract lyrics of Kool Keith with the production I've been craving since RZA when he was top of his game. Still don't listen to much US Hip-Hop but this guy is just the best, pioneering the US underground since 93 and hi…

Every time there's a new release there's normally a fair bit of discussion in the relevant thread, so I thought it was about time to start a general FSOL thread. Also, I just started a new blog called Fractional Difference, in which I'll be going through every release and song, in order, and looking at various things... all the facts, connections with other tracks, and my own personal feelings about them. It's going to take forever (they released 180 tracks on the launch of FSOLDigital alone), but I'm quite looking forward to revisiting the whole catalogue over the next however long it takes. So far I've done an About page which explains my discovery of the band and …

So I did a search, and I didnt see any sort of main topic for exm or his music-- just those related to a release if he had one coming up-- so I figured id make an umbrella one for discussion on our favs of his discography, if that's alright. (btw: Riyl autechre, phoenecia, with some melodic work thrown in.) First off, Im a huge fan of the guys work, and so many of his releases have become top favorites of mine: Modulus, Overscore (+), more recently Comp, released this month (which is perfect for anyone new to his work imo), both this years self released works MMLXXVII and Odd Times are amazing as well and are definite growers, especially the prior LP. His coll…

I've been listening to a lot of noise music this past year, and decided now would be a good time to dedicate a thread to it. By noise, I mean power electronics, harsh noise, industrial (the more experimental non-EBM variety) and more abrasive avant-garde music. But feel free to post anything in the general spirit of noise here, be it noise rock or whatever. As long as it's good and noisy post it here. I was lucky enough to pick up two Thirteen Hurts CDs at this year's Victoria Noise Fest, both of which are top notch amazing noise albums. This is a video of him recording one track off of his Chemtrails album: Unfortunately it's tough to find anything …

Inspired by the "what got you into music" thread, I decided to expand on the video game music discussion. There's some real classic electronic music contained in old videogames, and probably lots of things people haven't heard. I'm not really into chiptunes, or listen to that kind of 8bit style at all, but that kind of discussion would be good too. Also someone posted some sonic/michael jackson remixes a while back which I thought was awesome but haven't been able to find it again. Some of the best videogame music I've heard was from a PC game in 1993 called SkyRoads, and it was actually a huge technical error that somehow made the music better than how it was origina…

I've wanted to do this thread for a while. Drone music has many faces, but often hard to find. I've never read anything in this forum about it, except for an old thread where the discussion was more focused into explaining the difference between ambient and drone instead of sharing rare and astonishing drone pieces. Would be great if this thread turns into a nice thing worthy of his pretentious title! I'll start showing what I mean with awesome drone music (in different styles) Classic: Less classic: Avant-garde: http://isakedberg.com/Λ.wav (fucking incredible) Anyone into this k…

Who's the person behind zvλd? I was listening to a lot of the stuff on the soundcloud that's up and really, really liked the tracks I heard, almost more so than a good deal of tunes coming out lately. Reminded me of little bits of loads of artists but arranged and done so by someone who knows what the fuck they are doing. https://soundcloud.com/occult-research/3v8zzzdg0hdk https://soundcloud.com/zvld/0hgpahdiwygn https://soundcloud.com/zvld/go-placid https://soundcloud.com/zvld/regen https://soundcloud.com/zvld/haunt https://soundcloud.com/zvld/waerd Anyone got a clue on this one? Either way, it's great tunes - give the soundcloud a listen too, there's lots o…

Hi all. I realized music that sounds like spiritual, etheric ambient glitch/techno is the type of music that my mind resonates with the most. Some examples might be Oval, Vladislav Delay, SND, Visible Cloaks, Huerco S., etc. Do you know something similar? Can be visuals too. https://www.webdesignmuseum.org/flash-websites/sixstation-2002

(Let me preface this thread: If you don't like this kind of music gtfo, this is strictly for appreciation and sharing) Particularly I've been listening to a lot of old Decapitated...their first album Winds of Creation imo is the best technical death metal album ever made. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x43_UPVH7Wc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGCO9LmrnXQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Bk6hoZRGLs Now it's your turn!

What's the story with this group? After seeing the white room pop up on various must-have-in-eletronic lists I finally decided to check it out. It's like fresh fettucini with a sprinkle of parmesan. Gets me pumped for a battle with jon claude van damme. I heard they disbanded after this album and an insane performance involving sheeps blood. Anything obscure worth checking out? Discuss
