My weekly music recommendation

This is a Krautrock masterpiece!!! This cd reissue of the 1975 debut release by Eroc has totally floored us. Eroc's the solo project of Joachim Heinz Ehrig, who was the drummer in Grobschnitt. He used his solo project as a way to explore electronics, cutups and sound collage all surrounding totally beautiful & harmonic instrumental pieces. Of the albums he made under the Eroc moniker this is the one that shimmers with the most beauty while still showing his crazy range and unpredictability. From the blissed out to the abizarre, Eroc 1 is one of those records that you can't believe you've never heard before, and one that once heard will surely go down as one of your fa…

I really like how amon tobin and a couple others spend a lot of time focusing on sound samples, warping them, using ones you wouldn't think would fit... Suggestions?

Jay-Z - Satanism and "On To The Next One" 1 2

I came upon this website a couple months back: http://vigilantcitizen.com/ I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, and as I saw was said by someone commenting about one of his articles, some of his analyses do seem to be a bit of a stretch. Anyway, he analyzes Jay-Z's "On To The Next One" in one of his articles (I basically stole/plagiarized my topic title using his word choices and style): http://vigilantcitizen.com/?p=3073 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM1RChZk1EU I am no Jay-Z fan, at all. I do, however, like this song a great deal, and I think the video is something else. Really great and dark. But there's this whole theory that …

Are there any good net radio stations out there? Im in the office alone this afternoon and want to tune into something different. Dont care what the genre is really - but there must be some IDM / electronic stations out there ("dance music") which are not predominantly psy-trance or david guetta style house.. which is all ive found so far...

Lil Wayne - I Feel Like Dying 1 2
by Guest carthief- 36 replies

I don't know enough about Lil Wayne to make a judgement either way. I would like, however, to listen to some of his albums, starting with the oldest, before I dismiss him. However, this song is sick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXwOsYZhbGY The Flying Lotus remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXwOsYZhbGY The fact that Wayne was openly addicted to codeine raises him in my books, as does this song. Also, I learned in reading the lyrics that he name-drops Xanax in this one as well. I think it's a great song.

Just wanted to go ahead and get in before the storm of mainstream electronic-ness irks everyone. I'm already a fan of her's so I am biased, but I see it being a "guilty pleasure" of many watmmers. And also being quite bashed in an extreme measure due to her dipping into some watmmers music pools. Also, she can be hit and miss. Over sing, be bland, try too hard(hip hop jazz infused back to basics), etc etc. She is by no means perfect, nor is any pop star. I don't see her next album as being anything groundbreaking musically. However, I believe there will be some trends that come out of it that will of course get watered down and watered down again and a…

OK I'm going to write my thoughts on this group. First off I've read an essay by Chuck Klosterman called "ABBA 1, WORLD 0," i believe it's called. I forget which book it's in but it was a good essay, and I bring it up just to point out that I'm not just some crazy person who thinks ABBA are one of the greatest things ever to happen to the human race. OK it might be a bit crazy but hear me out. With ABBA you have these two guys, brilliant pop songwriters, writing music for their girlfriends who can sing the melodies perfectly. These guys are writing absolutely incredible compositions, basically orchestral pop song compositions, to be sung by virtuoso vocalists. If you'…

http://www.discogs.com/Mouse-On-Mars-Cache-Coeur-Na%C3%AFf/master/15154 Hot damn I love mouse on mars. And stereolab. And to have the ladies of stereolab coo over some brilliantly dubbed out circa-Autoditacker/Glam MoM just sends my sphincters afuss. Does this have the same effect for any of you guys? mouse on mars deserve way more love on WATMM -FACT

Time Machines II

Sleazy recently posted an update on his new website Sacred Profane letting everyone know that despite the recent troubles in Thailand he's doing fine and hasn't experience any trouble in his area. Aside from this he mentions that he's commissioning "various lone inventors, military technicians, circuit bending specialists, cabinet makers, and antiquarians, dotted around obscure corners of the globe" to make him unique equipment with which to record a second Time Machines album. Most Coil fans here would remember that they mentioned several times that they would be issuing a boxed set of up to four hours of material (in one interview Jhonn said he would like to issue a…

over the years i've heard lots of electronic music on NPR, usually the 3-5 second beds they play after a story and usually it was mainstream stuff like Orbital, Underworld, Prodigy i.e. shit like that. Recently i've begun listening during the day at work and have heard everything from Aphex, BOC, DMX Krew, D'arcangelo, even Ceephax! i'm thinking either an intern in the tape library or some musical director likes teh IDM, or they have some obscure licensing deals. although being a nonprofit radio network using just a few seconds of a track they probly get away with paying nothing.

well since just about everything since the fragile has sucked from nine inch nails. and really the downward spiral was the last truly solid mistake-free album. there have been a few hits though since the fragile. obviously the "still" disc is mostly great. but after that era, from with teeth, year zero, and the slip i think "the warning" from year zero represents his best effort and the general direction nin should have gone many years ago. it's hard to throw ghosts into the equation but in general a lot of the instrumental stuff is way better than the angsty jock jams nin make. there's an instrumental or two off of the slip that are pretty great. corona radiata i th…

Morton Subotnick interview
by Guest spraaaa- 0 replies

no idea if this has been posted before http://dublab.com/archive/morton-subotnick-interview-live-at-dublab-111309/ I thought it was pretty cool in a slightly nerdy way, some of the stuff he was taking into account for live compositions in the 60s sounds exactly like what people would be thinking about writing stuff in max or reaktor these days. He seems to have a refreshingly no bullshit attitude towards a lot of things too.

Just listening to 'are you an axolotl' and started wondering what happened to this dude. Did he quit music or what? I thought he would go on to great things as a producer with the Malcom Kipe stuff. Any Texans know what up. Atop?

Classical Keyboard Music
by Guest Backson- 1 reply

I love old keyboards - pianos, organs, harmoniums, mallet and bell instruments (if they count) and so forth - and I love dark and grand classical music. I was wondering if there was composer who wrote this sort of music mainly for different keyboards. Or if there was some kind of an organ quartet or something that performed well known works. or a really good dark soundtrack or something. its pretty broad, but you get where I coming from. is there anything along these lines that would interest me? preferably in minor.
