number one would probably be 'suppers ready' by the classic peter gabriel fronted genesis. how i love this track and it all flows so well. pink floyds 'echos' is great too but i cant remember if thats 20 minutes. then it would probably be manuel gottschings 'e2-e4' followed by steve reichs 'music for 18 musicians'. and im digging the shit out of jim o'rourkes the visitor. fantastic album. 'suppers ready' in all its (edited) glory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzWdDCtC1IM

Cheap but decent turntable

Hello On a budget — lets say £50?!!! — I'd appreciate any recommendations for a semi-decent turntable (or is it the needle I should be more concerned about?). Second-hand is obviously fine. I would like to be able to record/sample from it and, ideally, it would be somewhat portable but I'm sure this is incredibly idealistic. Many thanks in advance!!!

BIG UP SELECTAH! Imma 'ahdcor Junglist who doesn't have nearly enough Jungle music mon. My favorite era of Jungle is 94-97. What are some definitive compilations, mixes, labels, artists, tracks??? I need more chikachikachika beats. Ragga vocals encouraged. I've also been wanting to look deeper into darker Drum N Bass or Drum N Bass in general really. Feel free to recommend any good comps or mixes in this style as well. I prefer flowing drum beats to the kick-snare two step sound. HAVE AT IT MON

Something I don't understand. Perhaps some you great pillars of knowledge would be able to explain? Before I started listening to IDM or whatever you want to call it, I used to listen to a lot guitar based music. Why is it that if listen to Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Metallica, Slayer, Napalm Death, Soundgarden or Rancid you can quite easily buy 99% of all their music they have released and yet electronic artists seem to play this secret squirrel game of hide and seek? For a few examples the unknown Squarepusher track that Aphex played in 2002, why don't he just release it? There's the Gescom stuff on Skam, the Autechre mix that a WATMM posted a few weeks back and will pr…

Hey all, I am sort of new to this music scene and I realised that my local HMV has literally nothing on IDM and most electronic music. I am basically asking where is a good place to purchase music for a guy who is from Canada? And when I say music, I mean albums and mp3s from IDM/electronic artists. If this is not the proper forum for this thread could someone move it? I wasn't sure if this was general banter or of its music related - because it is sort of both lol... Thanks for your help guys (and girls!) Henry

I'm really excited to finally put this one out there. I first heard a couple of tracks a year or so ago from a friend and was definitely intrigued. It reminded me of a time when I used to make music before I discovered internets and like-minded individuals, a time when I made music without any sense of consequence or awareness of an audience. These tracks from Uncle Social are from the turn of the century, around the same time I'm talking about, and they are raw and genuine, which I find refreshingly powerful. I Will Have Cake is largely beat-driven and to me, seems to focus on creating interesting sounds and samples in lieu of melody. It's a great album to drive to …
