Never heard of this genre before until random video popped up on YT recs. Way off my radar. Is this pop music now? I'm not even really hating on it. Other than Sophie I've never heard of any of these acts. I figured Sophie was kinda leftfield but apparently she's done production for big name pop stars and brands. I feel old and out of touch lol

Just saw him perform last Friday at the London Contmporary Music Festival. Lush to see him return to his Multistability era after a good few years concentrating on more 'contemporary' and non-electronic stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTmKZS8yeHk Fuckin banging Fell is probably my fave electronic musician after the autocray m8s so I thought it would be nice to share tracks and enthusiasm towards his u n i q u e a e s t h e t i c Not erasing Mat Steel from history here. It's a shame he's not as much on t…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwLXPEYZi2M Ive been listening to the Residents for some time now. They are easily amongst my favorite bands. Over the last year Ive started to feel that they are one of the first punk bands. Now i know its not punk in the way we are familiar with today, but, take this into consideration. They where trying to separate themselves from the mainstream by doing oddball covers of pop songs. There where not trained musicians in anyway. They just grabbed there pianos, horns, guitars and electronics and just went for it. And to top it all off they where living in Louisiana in the 60's,a hot spot for racism, and dressing up like retarded KKK membe…

Interesting article, new this morning, on some of the less-trodden paths in the early northern UK dance music scene, centered around two DJs/artists responsible for helping create the first and third releases on Warp Records. Illuminating, even for an old fart like me ‘It felt like a revolution’: Jive Turkey, the Sheffield club night that blazed a trail for UK house | Clubbing | The Guardian

Tech Itch has always been one of my favorite producers of all time. His tracks are always innovative and visionary with a possession of craft like no other. He seems like he’s always been at the top of the game and ahead of the curve but I feel he’s never gotten the proper recognition he deserves, most likely due to the dark edge of his sound. Still, his style is unmatched. Dude is a GOAT for real. Share your faves.

Disclaimer: I might b a bit drunk I was listening to this new weeknd stuff and knowing that opn was involved honestly made me depressed. How does one go from this. to that?? Now something I have noticed and correct me if I'm wrong is that really talented artists that have touched daws and either go back to or embrace hardware keep making good music but not nearly as adventurous or engaging as when they used daws or mostly daws*. The best example of this (and I think I've been raving about this for years) is rdj. Sure syro is technically impressive yada yada but it simply doesn't touch the stuff he made on playerpro or using digital means on window…

I'm curious, what are people here's opinions on BT's music? He seems to have a similar thing going on (creating a vast array of different styles of painstakingly built up music, often from scratch by programming or making electronics).

"The BBC's Radiophonic Workshop, which created theme tunes and sound effects for programmes including Doctor Who and Blake's 7, is to reopen after 14 years.Composer Matthew Herbert, known for his use of "found sounds", has been appointed creative director." " Matthew Herbert will lead "seven fellow cutting-edge collaborators" in making new sounds and music. The composer is known for his experimental sound collages, which often have socio-political themes. On last year's One Pig film and album, he recorded the life of a pig from birth to its slaughter at 20 weeks, and its subsequent serving as a meal.In a live performance at 2004's London Jazz Festival, he drove a tank o…

hey guys ive played with that concept for a little while... let me explain, and my english is not my native language. about a few months ago, a friend of mine recommended we only listen to music made before 1992. I stopped listening to any music done after 1992. this prompted me to really explore the 80's up to 1992. I discovered so much music I had either stopped listening as a grew up, or simply never heard. The experience have been a eye-opener and im in a sort of musical "renaissance" Its been about 3 months now that i started this 1992 limit. ive expanded up to 1993 recently. before I get into the 90's further, I wanted to understand the often rep…

Are there any good apps or plugins that do a better job of categorizing your sample library than just using windows file explorer? I really like stuff like Atlas that intelligently categorizes your one shots, but what about samples that are minutes long? I want an ai explorer that will look at all of your samples and categorize them similarly. But anything better than file explorer would be nice.

edit: this post is really weird. I must have been drunk or something. Lol. I should know better. Doesn't represent my thoughts. I think I was joking about it. I hope so anyway xD. So just deleted the weird bits. I have also managed to find the stems to "Lil B - I'm God" which Clams Casino produced the background music for, and I took out Clam's Casinos part of the track and now am just left with Lil B's rapping over it. A true diamond in the rough. Or maybe just 'A true turd in the sublime'.

I have been reading Tim Hecker interviews recently and it's impressive how much he goes into his process and I have a list of ideas to try out from them. I wish people were this open on how he makes music instead of keeping it close to your chest. Good technique and sound design is required to make good music, however the most important part is what you do with the sounds and that's where he excels . His music isn't good because he has hidden sound design secrets or whatever. He could teach someone everything he knows but they won't be able to emulate that kinda creativity. That is generalizing a bit but you get muh point. https://www.factmag.com/2016/03/31/tim-hecke…
