hey everyone I have been solely listening to old music for a while now and became quite fascinated by just how fast electronica when from being total garbage to quite nice, from 1985 up to 1993. just thought id open a thread about this subject to hear what some of you guys have to say. feel free to recommend or post music from that "early" era. heres a great track that i had missed: lol, just realized this is a 1994 track.

Anyone following Rick Beato's youtubes? What do you think? This guy gives some great insight from the producers perspective. Mostly rock music, but interesting nevertheless. Here's one on Nine Inch Nails. Perhaps not the best example, but probably closest to what people here listen to. Don't think Nine Inch Nails is a particularly interesting though. Compare it to Stevie Wonders Superstition. I love it when he goes into the chords progressions and how various layers work together. The drums bass section, melodies. Plenty more stuff on his channel. Also love his explanation of why rock is dead: quantisation. Bit of an irony given thi…

this is a thread for all things ryuichi sakamoto. i recently watched Royal Space Force (which is amazing, the more and more i think about it), and the music in it absolutely blew me away. in particular, check out the end credits song (spoiler: its the song used during the climax/credits of the movie). but as for what else is out there in ryuichi sakamoto's catalogue that's worth checking out, i get a little bit lost. please post and recommend awesome places to start. i'm absolutely digging the 80's production and melodies. here's one more.

this youtube channel has really cool music with great videos. the latest, red, is really good, and it seems like it's the third snippet from an epic song.

About twenty years ago I picked up two old EPs by Spooky at a car boot sale - Stereo EP and Clank EP. Had no idea who they were but they were dated 1995 and the cover art looked promising. Here's one of the tracks: Do Not Adjust Your Set - Spooky, from Stereo EP 1995 And they've just sat there since in my mp3 collection, now and again they come on on shuffle and I think 'hmmm thats good'. Something very assured about it, well produced big beat analogue tunes with interesting chord sequences. A bit like Sabres Of Paradise/Two Lone Swordsmen. And I never hear anyone talk about them So I looked them up yesterday and they're still around and they…

I'm looking for any examples of noise music with overt use of gabber kicks, now obv there is stuff like making orange things but that feels like breakcore first and noise second imo. This is something I have always thought should exist but I didn't find any proper examples of until this week.. This whole album is mad but I nipped this bit in particular This track was what prompted me to go looking.. Those who made that track have made a single album which I uploaded and features some more of the same sound This is a milder example of the same idea.. also discovered off that compilation …

Listening to Low and thinking about Mimi Parker, how integral she is to the band's sound, the peerless work they'd already created together, the incredible aesthetic tract they were still riding up until the end, continually reinventing what'd come before. Mimi's voice piercing through the gloom and distortion of their music like a floodlight in the fog. Just heartbroken for Alan and felt this deserved a topic to celebrate the band at the very least.

Warp recently repressed the completion Artificial Intelligence Vol. 1, in their marketing they decided not to use the term IDM, but instead, electronic listening music Yeah, I know... There have been many attempts to change the term "IDM" to something else, I'm far from the first. People have come up with lots of unique alternatives such as Internal Dance Music and Brain Dance, the latter being one that has been the most successful alternative. The term IDM has always been troublesome with a large amount of people, some people have accepted it, others question it, and then there are some people who outright despise the term, all of which are valid reactions to the te…

EDIT: My Bandcamp-links were all messed up. Warp Drive Forgive all the mistakes Mikrohm is a mexican artist I discovered through Pitchforks recent article about Latin Ambient. She makes great music with a nod to old ambient techno like GAS, and early Warp (Black dog, B12). Check it out!

Railway Raver had some really cool releases on Rephlex but then seemed to vanish back in to the 90s Anyone know if he started using a different moniker or what happened to him?

What tracks and why? (Have we done this already?) Andy Stott-Up The Box (Luxury Problems). The way this turns into an almost generic dnb-track is just terrible. It adds nothing to an otherwise great album. Aphex Twin-Produk 29 [101] (Syro). Track 3 after the brilliant start with Minipops and XMAS_EVET. It's just so slow and lazy with those annoying vocal samples. More like a b-side on a single. Huerco S-Plonk IX (Plonk). The album is such a great follow up and evolution of the vibes on Colonial Patterns, and For Those... And then it's this track sounding like some random stoner rapping over sub-par beats for seven fucking minutes. Massive Atta…

Is there any etiquette here? I find myself wanting to support Bandcamp artists more. If you're an artist on Bandcamp, what do you typically anticipate/experience/hope for?

This is the first year without any studio album by the main 4 artists that make the WATMM forum (AE/AFX/BOC/SQ). There were some stuff in the form of reissues, remixes, EP's, 12inch vinyls, live and collabs, but no LP. Same for the other WATMM subfolder artists, only mu-ziq, Clark and Ceephax released a long-play album iirc.
