Anybody else remember this Schoolhouse Rock short growing up? Just saw this again and it brought back a flood of nostalgia. I don't know why but this song always made me so sad as a kid. It's still got this powerful melancholy feel to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jeq5a8bBh8c Elliott Smith also did a great cover version of it as a bonus track for his album also titled Figure 8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR_jNDD5-gQ

alexander "skip" spence
by Guest Z_B_Z- 14 replies

ive been familiar with this album for quite some time but the greatness of it has really been hitting me lately. spence was a member of the band moby grape in the late 60s (and an early version of jefferson airplane). long story short, he took way too much acid, lost his mind and tried to kill his bandmates with an axe. because of this he ended up in new yorks bellvue hospital for the criminally insane for six months and recorded this album upon his release. it was his only album. i know its easy to romanticize these kinds of tragic figures but ultimately if the music isnt good people wouldnt be talking about them in the first place.. its a great album. alternately witty,…

This 21 year old Icelandic kid did a bit of a Project168 and recorded 7 songs in 7 days. Peaceful melancholic music based on piano and some strings. The EP, Found Songs, is possible to download and has a pretty video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYIfiQlfaas

Not sure if there is a thread on this already, Icouldn't find one anyway. http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=11149 I am a fan of both Burial and Massive Attack, although I think Massive Attack have lost their edge somewhat.... and Burial nicked most of 'his' drum patterns from Massive attack in the first place, But I'm really interested to hear how this turns out!

Alright let me first off start by saying, I really hate these threads sometimes. They just kind of annoy me when people just ask for new music, so I will understand some sarcasm and hate directed my way. It's alright. So if you wanna just say "fuck you" or whatever, hey I've been there. Second, here is my last.fm (http://www.last.fm/user/analoguerevolvr), specifically new artists I am looking for are in the genres of Drum n' Bass, Acid, "90's Techno (B12 stuff) , Old/Classic Hip Hop, and anything Ambient. Anything thats great to drop in a DJ mix would also be awesome. Feel free to just use this thread as just a general recommendation thread, so anyone else looki…

basically they're a group of MCs between san fran and L.A. i've been listening to these guys and the side projects for the past like 10 years. scarub is probably my favorite MC of this clan. Murs is probably the only one that has had some commercial success. oh wait... i meant to post this on my frienda hip hop forum he started... fuck it! this is from 1994 and the video was like a highschool project or something... samples nirvana (i think) and the jungle book. 3MG (3 meloncholy gypsies) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGNHEy6F1Hs older scarub & very http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDZMgAPC-YQ newer scarub & very http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM…

Unlabeled Waves in music? 1 2
by Guest Glass Plate- 33 replies

So for those unfamiliar with the idea of Waves a very solid and well known genre with waves would be SKA. There is the 1st wave, which was simply a continuation of carribean music like dance hall/reggae etc. Then the 2nd wave was a 70's/80's type movement in America that was an anti-racism movement. Ska music made by white and black people together, aww how cute. Then there's the bastard 3rd wave which is just pure americans in the mid 80's to now making the same ska over and over. (Aquabats, Might Might Bosstones etc.) Now, there are lots of genres that have obvious phased in and out, do we know there waves? One major one I think is GARAGE ROCK, I predict …

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I stumbled across a bunch of Warp 2-album sets by LFO, Aphex, Squarepusher, BOC, etc. I can only seem to find these on HMV; but seeing as they're only like 8pounds I figured it was worth sharing... good introduction for new listeners, etc.

As many of you know, back in the day, before the Tate-LaBianca murders, Charlie Manson recorded this album in Dennis Wilson's (of the Beach Boys) studio. It pretty much sucks ass but this one song is so fucking good I had to make a thread. I should have done this years ago. I guess Guns 'n Roses covered it at some point but the original is much better. Accept no substitute. Charlie actually sings good on this song imo. The slide show is ace also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw8S7TJPqGs On discogs

Since i decided to turn my back on intelligent dance music yesterday I have been exploring my new found favourite music, thrash metal and death rock. I've had a lot of catching up to do and a lot of sub-genres to explore. I have discovered a sub-genre which i call intelligent thrash music, because of the complexities of the sound design and the rush of energy it gives when you hear it. Thrashing around feels fucking amazing I did it last night in a metal pub. Life affirming shit. But theres one type of thrash metal I am not so keen on, it doesn't sit well. It's called and I dont think it goes well with the death rock style. I don't think anyone can realistically thras…
