Italy are in a really shit group, so they'll likely have a lot of energy in the tanks for the knockouts. While that might give me hopes of another WC for the wops, I think their current squad is too much a bizarre combination of dinosaurs and infants. They also have no world class strikers. If Buffon is in typical form, they could still get deep into the tournament. Oh, and no, I won't kid myself about the U.S. chances. They're incredibly overrated (yes, overrated) and any success they have will be shocking although I'll do backflips while farting the star-spangled banner if they beat England (or draw). Favorites: Spain and Brazil look awfully good with a side o…

A Portsmouth landlady is contesting England's top-flight competition's TV copyright over Saturday afternoon games The Premier League today embarked on a long-awaited court action that could have profound implications for the future of the £3bn-plus its clubs earn from broadcast contracts and equally severe consequences for fans who like to watch 3pm kick-offs in the pub on a Saturday afternoon. The European court of justice in Luxembourg was the setting for what appears an uneven legal battle: in one corner, a doughty Portsmouth landlady who wants to continue showing foreign broadcasts of top-flight English football in her pub; in the other, lawyers for the Premie…

..i'll passionately watch and back the England games and almost always be dissapointed.. every time. knowingly. but i've never followed one team or even been remotely into Football outside of world cups or the Euro.. can somebody please explain to me what the big deal is? is it just that you've grown up with it and had it shoved down your throat in some way? a bit like a religion? why do YOU, yes you there, like Football? what is it about watching men running backwards and forwards around a football pitch and kicking a ball around that you enjoy so much? interested to hear any stories, opinions, ideas, flames, team vs. team aggression, etc. etc. etc. …

http://www.soccerphile.com/soccerphile/news/sean/drinking-in-football.html Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has announced he will ban alcohol from his club next season, after defender Ledley King ended up in handcuffs following a nightclub fracas this week. "I'll implement a strong rule next season that drinking is a no-no here," Redknapp said, heralding a new era. "There's still too much of a drinking culture in English football but it's not as bad as it used to be." King's drunken delinquency is only the latest in a long, long line of alcohol-inspired misbehaviour, stretching back through English football history. More than soccer violence, excessive dr…

Downloaded and watched the latest program. Lovely stuff :) I knew there was quality in the lower divs, as evidenced by performances of some clubs in the FA cup. Was surprised at the overall consistency of the quality though. Does make me wish that we had that kind of quality here.

http://www.footballshirtculture.com/11/12-kits/england-11-13-umbro-home-kit-update.html This kit is a fUcking abomination. Silly silly multi coloured crosses that in no way represent our country, ridiculous collar and long rectangular chest piece that wouldn't look out of place in the 1890's. It's like this tool has taken everything that was great about the last home shirt and travelled into a Bizarro world with it and brought back the result. We should be proud to be English, not cater for every Tom, censored and Mohammed by representing multi culturalism on our football shirt!! Would never happen to Brazil, Germany, France or any other country come to think of it…

That second Gerrard goal was class. England still look fucked at the back. Zamora is too slow to play international football. Wayne Rooney obviously wanted to give the crowd the two fingered salute when he left the pitch. It still looked better than the world cup though, so that's good...

Champions League for real now. Wonder what their draw will look like. They're guaranteed at least one top tier team from a non-English locale.

Kuyt...........................Jova .............N'gog................. Arsenal's midfield just looked fucked. No RVP or Fabregas either. Can still see this being a complete goalfest though.
