Co-founded by one of the pioneers of modern electronic music, few can doubt Rephlex Records' influence on electronic music, and the lasting effect Braindance has had on the current electronic music scene.

So for a few months there was speculation about Rephlex slowly fading into obscurity, taking into account the disappearance of rephlex.com, the vague sublabel albums that were only recognisably Rephlex because a symbol on the artwork that was resembling the Rephlex logo + a part of the barcode was the CAT#. Also we had our own messaien confirm Richard said something along the lines of "killing off" Rephlex. Still a lot of us had good hope they were just shapeshifting, taking a new form with the bandcamps, the emailorders of EDM and Aleksi Perala, etc., even though since APMusik - MU3 there were no CAT#'s to be found anymore. Yesterday though, it seemed like it was finall…

I think this was a major coup for Rephlex tbh. The last couple years have seen the stalwarts still turning out good stuff - but stuff that we know and love. The new bochum welt could have been from 20 years ago and no one would have batted an eyelid. And the "new" rephlex artists these days - Jodey, Monolith, EOD (to a lesser extent) are still in a 10 yrs old braindance/afx model. I will love this stuff till the ends of the earth, but it's old territory. I think FFE stuff was a really exciting direction: a true millennial (i think he's about 23) putting a very impressive debut of original and fun music. something that had appeal beyond just us nerds who love most reph…

So since we're paying Grant via his old Rephlex paypal address, do we count this as a lost or zombie Rephlex release? Not to mention it's almost all former Rephlex artists. Did anyone get the CD release with their ticket?

I'm willing to argue that Aleksi Perala's music is more lush than the Aphex Twin's. Whenever I listen to something he makes I am always extremely satisfied by the sound quality/mixing. Everything sounds perfect to me. This is not the case with the Aphex Twin. His music ranges from shit mixing to immaculate. He uses outstanding composition as the backbone for his music. Aleksi's music can be rather minimal and even go nowhere, but it satisfies in that it has sonic depth and quality. Technically I don't know how he achieves this, but it is very noticeable for me. Discuss?

Hi, through youtube I've managed to find someone who had a VHS of this TV show which is "hosted" by Grant of Rephlex, with some guests and generally just talking about the label. He got it digitalized and I just uploaded all parts now. The show was aired on a program called WahWah (which also did a Merzbow feature if I remember correctly) around 2001. Because I had to cut the commercials out, and because of cheap semi-working videosplit programs, there are 7 parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA75UokCGl8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFvFcHPRdjo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu_Fus8tKTU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHs_TWeU9wc http://www…

I seriously never get sick of this one, Vulva's masterpiece. I have a co-worker who's ringtone is the same starting 3 notes of the opening track, so I always think "someone is jamming Birdwatch!" Lol. Timeless.

Nice little read about the seemingly forgotten influence of the two Grime albums on Rephlex. With input from GWC, Kode9 and others. http://www.redbull.com/uk/en/music/stories/1331732721146/how-a-record-named-grime-paved-the-way-for-dubstep Also, "a year after that comp came out I threw a big party at Electrowerkz, room 1, The Bug, Luke Vibert, Grant, DMX Krew, Ceephax etc etc. Room 2 Plastician, Kode 9, Slaughter Mob, Digital Mystikz etc etc. I remember getting a couple of emails the week before the event from nervous electronica fans asking if it would be safe and would the grime kids beat them up."

Discovered the Steinvord tracks last year. I don't know if they're aphex or what, but I at least feel very suspicious that they wouldn't go ahead and release more. Anyway, what an amazing selection of music. Utterly gorgeous stuff <3

Never knew this existed. Thanks to the B12 thread I found this in my search for more B12. It's really fucking good. A couple afx tracks I never heard either and Balil who were Plaid apparently. Very rare of course and people are selling them for $120CAD on discogs, so I pursued it through slsk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Philosophy_of_Sound_and_Machine http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Philosophy-Of-Sound-And-Machine/release/51236

Rephlex interviews are scarce, so this is worth a topic I reckon. Apparently Marco D'arcangelo will be writing a monthly article about the history and future of Rephlex Records. The first article is an interview with Marco and Grant. The English version is below the Italian written version: http://www.improvearts.net/planet-rephlex/ Worth the read imo!

found this on youtube, never heard it before, thought it was funny; heres youtube description: a classic telephone call made by one of Rephlex to London radio around the mid to late 90s. It was a download on the old rephlex.com website (which had a wicked robot image on it too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw9m6SCAECQ&feature=related

Many of you reading this will no doubt be familiar with Rephlex Records. About three years ago, because I'm something of a fanatic, I put together a printed discography. It features pages dedicated to Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Bogdan Raczysnki, Cylob, DMX Krew, The Tuss, and Ceephax Acid Crew. You can view the full project on my Behance profile: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Rephlex-Records-printed-discography/7730025 Please feel free to share the project on Tumblr: http://szabohaslam.tumblr.com/ I will be producing a limited amount to sell, with kind permission from Rephlex. You can follow me on Twitter for updates: @Szabo_Haslam

I remember a very nicely written paragraph filled with adjectives describing the 'braindance' term. For some reason i was sure it was in the 'braindace coinsidance' printed album art, which it is not. Does anyone recall of it and maybe have a graphic of it?

Hi, maybe this is a dumb idea for a thread, but I know for a fact that there are a few extra copies of the CW Compilation in my local shop, for example. Along with some other shit like Mood Bells, myloveilove, Braindance Coincidence, etc. I was thinking MAYBE it might be nice to have a thread where we discuss Rephlex physical media and possibly arrange trades / sales of extra or unwanted copies of such. For example if anyone is having trouble sourcing a copy of the CW Comp on CD I’d be happy to pick it up and post it for you for expenses paid and that’s it. I’m also not totally sold on the idea of needing to own Mood Bells myself, but again, if anyone nee…
