This is a contentious issue these days. Or rather I wish it was more contentious than it actually is. Currently if a respected artist (of whatever media) does a bad thing, sexual or otherwise, they are completely written off and ostracized from society. Persona non grata. More importantly people call for every thing they've ever done, made, and contributed to society to be written off, and categorically so. It's now bad music. unfunny comedy and terrible movies. creepy, disturbing writing. this instant invalidation of art after any sort of societal transgression seems wrong. This does not mean that a celebrated artist should not suffer consequences for their infractio…

Librarization of everything. Large buildings where people can work on anything they want in groups or alone by free access to any tool or equipment needed for any form of work. Anything one could need. A mall where everything is free but communal. Walkable and integrated with natural outside surroundings. Efficient conveyor belt based automatically routed transportation of objects between any two points. Spontaneous supply chain generation according to communal needs, as indicated by the number of people who are doing a particular type of work with a particular conveyor belt routing. The most important centerpiece of every city. Increased in complexity and breadth…

So as many of you long-time members recall, we had a chat module on the site we called CHATMM that was built into the forums. It was heavily used until the forum software vendor retired it, and for a long time there wasn't any decent replacements. When Houston Day for Night happened, we started using Discord to keep in touch at the festival and later we implemented a WATMM Discord that really didn't take off as the integration with the forum wasn't good, and was problematic in validating users, etc. Once we upgraded the forum software, third-party vendors offered integrated chatroom addons which we have now, and the developer has steadily been improving things t…

I'll start with this, a portable washing machine: http://amzn.com/B00AW04ZMM So cool. I didn't know that existed. Sounds like a good way to save money on laundromat costs without having to resort to washing your clothes in the tub. Has anyone ever owned one of these?

i've just realised that for ages - and idk when it started - every time i scroll down and read a youtube comments section, everyone is positive, giving praise, being supportive and at least 90% of them have something meaningful to say. now that is scientifically impossible. you all remember the arguments and degenerate opinions of classic youtube - humanity hasn't changed and this can only be the result of mind-bending AI fuckery. is it possible that these positive comments are all just auto-generated? google can do that now right? tell me if you're seeing the same thing as me because i am panicking. if i discover today that everyone on the planet had figur…

News just broke that Hilary Mantel (author of Wolf Hall) has died at age 70. So lets talk about the Wolf Hall trilogy. In 2009 when Wolf Hall came out I was living in London and I remember everyone was reading it on the tube but it took me a while to get round to it. If you havent read it: Its about Thomas Cromwell who was a blacksmiths son who ended up being the right hand man to Henry VIII about 500 years ago. I found it a really interesting read as a Brit because loads of changes happened back then that basically shape the way our country is today, and the way Mantel writes it, Thomas Cromwell was behind a lot of them. And hes an interesting character be…

Well we might as well talk about it. Never been much into the monarchy but (I guess this is a bit of a cliche) when I started watching Season 1 of The Crown recently (I was late to catch on to that show) it was really interesting TV. About a person put into a completely bizarre situation and trying to make the best of it. The Crown is really quality TV by the way, would recommend it if you've never watched it (like I hadnt). Like 20th century history revisited through the weird and impossible insitution that is the monarchy. And now we've got a King. Thats weird.

I hardly know of any other WATMMers in Sydney besides Mesh Gear Fox who doesn't even post that much anymore, but if there are any of you lurking... how's bout a meetup for Clark next Friday 22 April? Melbournites welcome too if you are in town/can be bothered (Mods please don't move this to the Clark subforum, it'll be missed by casual WATMMers)

I’ll be in Frankfurt for one night next week (Thursday the 15th). Anything to do or see? I have a relatively early flight the next day so no LSD trips, but if there’s anything fun to be done… If any WATMMers live in the city, would love to grab a beer!

Sorry if this isn't the right thread. My search for the right one (with my iphone) turned up zip. Anyway... I use the mobile version, not Tapatalk or whatever that is. For some reason, every time I navigate away from Safari/WATMM it signs me out. The application is still open. I don't ever close the window or sign out. That's all.

Being recently diagnosed with Celiac, and seeing the explosion in the gluten-free food industry, was wondering if anyone else here is in the same boat? It's a huge lifestyle adjustment, to say the least.

So this is about an issue I've been managing for most of 2022, starting with the first time I listened to Everywhere at the End of Time by The Caretaker. This is basically a long-term FWP so I'm posting it here instead of MD subforum. This album fucks me up. I know it's famous for being disturbing but I've never had this reaction to music before. Music has been really important to me since childhood - I've listened to all kinds of weird shit, in fact I often use intense music (dark ambient/noise/industrial) to help regulate my emotions. I always thought of music as a kind of therapy, a solution rather than something that actually creates problems. I get snippets…

Over the last 6 months or so I've been reading a lot of futurist theory and political theory and moral philosophy and the more I thought about things the more one particular issue started to eat away at me A few months ago I was reading about the Hepatitus C cure(Yes, it's literally a cure) And how it costs about $150,000usd And I started to think about what might happen When we stumble upon radical life-extension therapies Now, I've always been more or less a 'socialist' (At least in the colloquial sense) So all this didn't really change my position much But rather I realized just how high the stakes really were Now, the solution is very simple…
