Apple commercial - What will your verse be? 1 2

I saw this commercial on TV tonight for an iPad with images of a kabuki player, and a camera man, and some random shit and in the background you can hear a bastardized version of a Walt Whitman poem. At the end of the commercial the guy says "what will your verse be"? When I see things like that all I can think is the obvious. My verse will be me sitting on my arse with a new iPad playing angry birds until my eyes hurt. Do any of you guys think about stuff like that? Wonder what Walt Whitman would think about iPads and our society. Here is the commercial. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jiyIcz7wUH0 Here is Walt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wa…

Or maybe it's just me http://youtu.be/1hlCEIUATzg?t=5m14s (actually I've always found her slightly annoying, especially the way she got pissed at Naughty Dog over "stealing her likeness", but she does have a remarkably round forehead and smooth skin)

Soderbergh edited Hitchcock's Psycho and the 1998 remake into one film. I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet but it's pretty cool so far. So I like making music, I really enjoy it, but I don't actually see it as a career at all. Right now studying software engineering which I enjoy, but I also want to make my hobby a bit profitable. Basically I have thought of selling music for ads, videogames, menu music, artsy installations, whatever, really. I don't see myself as a musician, just a guy that can do it (good, or at least that is what people say sometimes). Right now, I feel, I have solid stuff to offer (not online atm, though). But how do someone advertise it? I already made a topic about this long ago, and some even told me that I need lawyers and shit. What do you guys recommend? In which website…

Music Industry Discussion and Innovations
by Guest pafr- 8 replies

Here is an somewhat old Business Insider article on the music industry I'm curious how some WATMMers' success stories are. Like how and where did you promote yourself? Did you started by playing live locally? How did you get signed to various labels? How much did luck play in your success? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to get my music out there. I might end up playing live in Seattle if it helps. I had a few ideas in mind regarding innovative ideas with music and promotion. For instance, I want to make an album for free download, then I'll make another version of the same album (maybe a chiptune version) that asks for payment on bandcamp. Then I …

I seem to remember watmm being all over this and the codex seraphinianus some time ago, being the two most incomprehensible lengthy illustrated manuscripts of history. The codex seraphinianus is a fabrication by a 80s artist, and this one was always suspected to be a 15th or 16th century elaborate troll in a similar vein... Until now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2564325/Has-Voynich-manuscript-decoded-First-words-mysterious-15th-century-text-revealed.html I guess we shouldn't be holding our breaths for a full decoded version anytime soon, but this still made me excited.

A stream opened up 5 days ago on twitch.tv that shows a game of Pokemon red which is played by everyone in the chat room. Controls are up, down, left, right, b, a, and start. Select was taken out so that soft resets could not happen. This means that tens of thousands of people are playing a single game of Pokemon. The results are pretty hilarious. http://www.twitch.tv/twitchplayspokemon At one point they accidentally released their second best Pokemon into the wild, although they do have 4 badges already. (this is technically a dupe topic to this one, but the title and description made it hard to figure out what it was actually talking about)

I'm going to be in Seattle from Thursday till Monday for Substrata Festival, and would like to make the most of my time there. I'm primarily looking for cool nature locations to check out; would like to do some field recording. Olympic National Park isn't feasible for this trip, unfortunately, and I think the same goes for the San Juan Islands. I'm planning on checking out Bainbridge Island and Whidbey Island, though. Not familiar with much else. Any good food recommendations would be appreciated also (especially Thai). I was up a couple years ago and ate at Mae Phim Thai, which was pretty phenomenal.

My laptop has been falling apart for a little while now. I thought it was just dusty, but I took it apart yesterday and aside from a slight amount of dust and a tiny dead spider, it was clean. It's a mid-range ASUS laptop with a i5, 8gig ram, and 500gb 7200 drive. I don't think the fans are working anymore, the laptop peaks out at almost 95 degrees Celsius plugged in a running. I've got a nice 2 fan belkin laptop cooler and even that doesn't do shit when it gets that hot besides keep it below 90 Celsius... I think it could be my battery failing as the laptop only holds charge for like 2 hours... Does anyone know of any solutions to this, I know I need a new computer a…

Good quality 1394 Firewire to USB adapter
by Guest decon- 1 reply

Hallo everyone! I hope that this is the right subforum to post in. I'm currently working on a studio setup that uses this audio interface http://www.tcelectronic.com/studio-konnekt-48/. What I need is a good quality Firewire to USB adapter. None of the students working in the studio have laptops with Firewire, so we have to find a solution that works with USB without having to invest in a new expensive audio interface. I've done the usual search on amazon, but all of the results are simple €2 cable adapter, which I suspect to deliver poor audio signal quality - based on my gut feeling! Does anyone around have experience with something similar or have knowledge on…

Hi folks, My team is wrapping up a couple of modest games and we're looking for help with music (and voice over and effects too, but probably best to treat that as a separate issue for now). One game is actually more of an interactive children's book, the other is a type of "endless runner". Both are aimed at children or casual players, and have a generally upbeat vibe, so we're looking for something melodic and nintendo-y, not NiN-Quake-ish. Since these games were "labors of love" and aren't necessarily marketable (we also have zero marketing budget), they'll probably make very little money, so our production budget has been correspondingly extremely stingy. Ide…
