Cellphones 1 2 3

So I finally got a cellphone yesterday afternoon after months of being harassed by others and not caring about getting one. I was warned I would become addicted and paranoid about this device due to expectations I would have from my contacts. Yesterday night, I went out to have craic and it turned out pretty handy to turn this improvised get-together into a successful night. But when it comes to tell my closest friends (who check their cellphones very often) through text messaging that I finally got myself a cellphone, many of them don't even answer. Of course, with my social expectations, my inability to understand the world of cellphones, and my overthinking personality…

What do you typically do on a Friday and/or Saturday night? For example, tonight (9PM EST time) I am about to head out to a local pub to drink myself to sleep. You?

Your Alarms 1 2 3
by Guest Gary C- 53 replies

How do you wake up in the morning? Beeps, music? How many alarms does it take to get you out of bed? What are your mobile-alarms called? Thomas Cunt. 7:15. This is my initial wake-up. Thomas Cock. 7:30. This is my get out-of-bed alarm, but I usually snooze it for another 10mins. Do the bus stop! 8:30. Time to be getting out of the house and catching that bus. Weekend. 10:00. Self-explanatory. Fuck you. 9:00. This is my alarm if I ever need to set one earlier than normal. All my alarms are just standard, shrill, horrible, klaxon beeps that do the trick in instantly stirring me, but I always hit 'snooze'. If I absolutely have to get up on time I'll leave my phon…

just saw a commercial for this festering pile of shit a few seconds ago: just lol. this aside, pizza hut has always been the nastiest shit possible. i spray pure grease out of my ass when someone within 100 yards of me even thinks about pizza hut. but seriously. cheesy bites pizza? the crust is seriously these fucking cheese-stuffed tator tot looking nodule pieces of shit? this goes beyond taste or bodily reaction to consumption. this is just plain offensive. so much so that i give anyone license to hate on america in this thread without me putting up a fight. so go ahead. take a shit on american culture ITT. we deserve it.

The milk produced by the transgenic cows is identical to the human variety and has the same immune-boosting and antibacterial qualities as breast milk, scientists at China's Agricultural University in Beijing say. The transgenic herd of 300 was bred by inserting human genes into cloned cow embryos which were then implanted into surrogate cows. The technology was similar to that used to produce Dolly the sheep. The milk is still undergoing safety tests but with government permission it will be sold to consumers as a more nutritious dairy drink than cow's milk. Workers at the university's dairy farm have already tasted the milk, and say it is sweeter and stronger than t…

i recently was having problems with aspects of my big workhorse studio pc. tried all the various diagnostics.. nothing obvious, so took it to the 'puter shop for a clean and a service in case it was just overheating. turns out there's 4 blown capacitors on the motherboard, so a rebbuild is in order... expensive, but what the hell.. time for an upgrade. bought new bits, built pc, installed win7.. doesn't work with most of my software... try xp mode, xp compatibility mode, try 32 bit etc... some software works, some doesn't... so back to xp. get a super slick install up and running, scan for viruses and malware, all clean, all running smoothly. tried to …

been following this story all week, so their next console debuts at E3 soon, in playable form. so what are they doing different this time? a personal touchscreen on every controller, with the possibility of taking those controllers on the go (it's a genius idea, but one would think it would hobble their DS business). the hardware surpasses the 360 and PS3, and does 1080p resolution (it will also play all Wii games and use Wii remotes as a control option). http://www.gossipgamers.com/rumor-project-cafe-concept-design/ http://wii.ign.com/articles/116/1163764p1.html

it's my understanding that gmos are pretty fucked up for about 4 million reasons. americans don't care that much, europeans care more. the things monsanto is doing with patents on seeds that inherently spread and grow on their own volition (or that of the wind), plants that die after the first growing cycle, and the obvious lobbying/bribing at all levels of government is fucking scary. my question for you watmm: is this seen as a big issue in your local/national politics?

i'm an interior designer and i've got nothing to do for the first time ever since working here (almost 8 years). no new work coming in since new year and a delayed start date for a big project means on friday we laid off some builders and fitters. the phone's dead, emails other than spam are few and noone's coming into the office. since i rely on commission to bulk up my salary, i'm starting to feel it and struggling to recover from my christmas and new years extravegances. i'm even looking at cheaper products when food shopping and stuff i need for my flat'll just have to wait til i'm in a better position. all that scaremongering is becoming reality.

Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior By Amy Chua - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704111504576059713528698754.html So what are your thoughts, watmm? It's also obvious in Japan and Korea that the culture around success starts very young—dare I say it, studying is the national past-time—but do you think it's a good idea for Westerners to start calling their kids fatties and functionally retarded until they can drop some Chopin-level talent by the time they're in kindergarten?

Based on recommendations here, I went with Wipeout HD and Infamous. Dead Nation seemed like a cheapy, disposable game that I'd get bored with quickly. So far, Infamous is damned good. I'm at the end of the first chapter. The controls are snappy and aiming is a cinch. The voice actors are quality, the characters are interesting. This is one of the first FPS-style games I've played for a console where aiming didn't feel like a tedious chore. I remember loving the Wipeout XL soundtrack back in the day but finding the game itself boring despite its prettiness. I assume this will be more of the same?

Those who have followed this infrequent series of topics are probably surprised to find that I haven't posted a link to some quasi 1.7 dimensional game where you play an undeveloped expression that has to evolve into the conception of Thursday the 14th of July by obtaining fragments of hubris from a pixellated apostrophe, but instead a proper conventional game with health bars, points and everything ... Everyone in their 20s or above who have posted on this forum will no doubt have played one of the games in the Streets of Rage trilogy (most probably the (in my opinion superior) second one). Imagine if your memory of the game was not that of a rose-tinted past, but th…

The Chap Manifesto 1. THOU SHALT ALWAYS WEAR TWEED. No other fabric says so defiantly: I am a man of panache, savoir-faire and devil-may-care, and I will not be served Continental lager beer under any circumstances. 2 THOU SHALT NEVER NOT SMOKE. Health and Safety "executives" and jobsworth medical practitioners keep trying to convince us that smoking is bad for the lungs/heart/skin/eyebrows, but we all know that smoking a bent apple billiard full of rich Cavendish tobacco raises one's general sense of well-being to levels unimaginable by the aforementioned spoilsports. 3 THOU SHALT ALWAYS BE COURTEOUS TO THE LADIES. A gentleman is never truly seated on an omnibu…

Help my friend get to singapore on an internship
by Guest mrguy- 10 replies

So basically, a friend of mine has entered a competition (where he had to write an essay about what was wrong with social networking, and how it should be fixed) to win 1 of 30 spots for an all expenses paid internship for 6 weeks in Singapore. http://internship2011.mycube.com/ Out of 16,000 entries, he's been shortlisted for the final two spots. To get in, he needs you to sign up to MyCube, "which is a social network that aims to change social networking, by creating a Social Exchange, where if you wish, you can write articles and sell them". Effectively, the judges have decided to cop out, and told the shortlist-eee's that they need to prove their "marketing skill…
