Edit: Since I made this thread, I have come across 3 instances where people are talking about chess in activities that have nothing to do with chess. Online and one while I was out and about. This is really strange. IDK if before I started chess I was running into people talking about it but didn't take notice, OR if it really is becoming THAT big. Anyone hopped on the current Chess popularity boom, here? I just started playing chess about 2 weeks ago and it's surprisingly engaging. I've known how to play for a long time, but past two weeks I have been playing a game or two daily. Very fun and Easy flow state access as you have to concentrate the whole time i…

I just finished reading The Blood Meridian. What an amazing book. It makes me wanna start a third RDR2-playthrough and watch old western movies. But what are YOUR favorite movies/series of the genre? I would like somthings that´s still solid in 2023. I prefer gritty stories over hero stories. I would also like tips about historic books about the whole American frontier era. Something like the Wiki-article with maps and illustrations.

Ive been in a very dark place lately. Ive lost a lot of friends over the past year and the ones i still have are becoming almost intolerable to me. I hate how unreliable and selfish people are and it makes me wish i could just be a hermit. Every day i feel a strange mix of hopelessness and anger and i have no outlet because nobody wants to hear what i have to say. Simultaneously i have been more productive and creative over the past month than i was for the past year before that. I have noticed this trend throughout my life. I become much more artistically prolific when i feel absolutely unbearable loneliness and emotional atrophy. For some reason misery…

Hey WATMM! I was wondering if the people in this community have a higher probability of being somewhere on the Autism Spectrum. If you could please take the following survey (which has been psychologically validated) and enter your score in the poll (or even post it if you're comfortable with that and want to discuss the results), I would appreciate it! Thanks! https://psychology-tools.com/autism-spectrum-quotient/ Edit: By the way, I got 23. A little higher than average, which is what I expected. Edit2: Here is an explanation of what the Autism Spectrum Quotient actually measures:

I’m planning on being in Cardiff & Newport for a few weeks in July/August and would love any and all recommendations. Additionally, to all of you parents out there… I’m traveling with my family and, since it will be a work trip, I’m hoping to possibly source out some childcare options. Are there any local agencies or anything in the UK or Wales where we can properly vet nannies, make sure they’re vaccinated, etc?? Thanks in advance, y’all ??

(and by Kayfabe, I mean, the things everyone pretends everyone might do but no-one actually does) I bought a Pokemon Booster pack for my kid and on the back it has the addresses of the USA and European Pokemon companies and there's a little note that says "Retain these addresses for your records" Who the fuck is going to do that? We've all got smoke detectors in our houses. Great, they save lives etc. But Official advice is to go and press the button to test that they are still working once a week. Once a fucking week. Who the fuck is doing that? How many people actually have a calendar reminder to go and test their smoke alarms once a week? Probably hardly…

We used to have a thread dedicated to this guy but I couldn't find it within our native search or scraping Google. Anyway, I'm sure most know him by now but he'll do MSPaint renditions of whatever strange shit you cook up. This is apparently him on his own doing a tribute to his 90s adolescence. I gotta say that zooming in and taking it in bit by bit kicked off a crazy nostalgia hit in my case. I was especially taken by the Aphex bear and the records at the decks.

dear Watmm, Me and my gf are going to visit London for the last week of January. it's our first visit, and it's going to be a low budget trip, so nothing fancy here. I've ran a search through Watmm since there were threads about it already. With your help I've managed to compile this preliminary list of things to do and see: - go to record shops (thanks to you guys I know there's a street in Soho which has some good shops, but I didn't catch its name) - she likes second-hand clothes, so I guess she will find something for her in Camden, right? - Natural History Museum, Tate modern, Victoria & Albert museum - We both like art and photography, are there any …

I propose a new thread where we can post our favourite threads. If this catches on maybe we can have our own recently read thread threads or favourite favourite thread threads. The mind boggles. If you want to post pictures of garments and different threads you can do that as well. Or we can make a new new thread thread for threads. A long thread subforum would be neat, you could even post yarn in a pinch. Short threads are no fun. Just a little stub of nothing. Get fucked. Get threading.

Hey everyone, They say things go in cycles, well I agree, I was a very regular poster in the very early 2000s (I even won tickets to see Aphex at Eat Your Own Ears, which I then couldn't go to as I was too young LOL - thanks anyway Joyrex)... I remember the great community. I met one or two at an Aphex gig at Warehouse project in 2010 but basically drifted away from WATMM in the mid 2000s with university etc. I've still been producing music and actually built myself up as a DJ over the last 10 years but now I'm focussing on completing tracks and getting releases and something told me to come back here as the producer crowd was really good at supporting each …

Goat Skull Clan Arise!!! Tonight we descend upon the forest lair of The Great Gunu. Beware brothers! His hollow down by the bearded oak tree may seem inviting with oily scents wafting from trinkets of ripened elixer, a warm crackle of the campfire and the sweet smelling moss that squelches underfoot. But his magical warren is guarded by Jurgen and Heinz, deadly henchman of half wolf and half man. Only once we have slain these foul beasts and hewn the heads from their necks can we safely suckle on the teats of The Great Gunu and powers bestowed upon us will alow the Goat Skull Clan too fuck every creature in the forests bigger than a hedgehog without remorse!!!!

Lump sum / annual payments? Blaze of glory / financial planner? What would you do? What would you buy? The current mega-millions jackpot is up to $1.25 billion. Can’t win if you don’t play, right? I would like to think that I would be smart and responsible to an extent, but I would also like to see how the 1% lives a little. Probably would make sense to do the annual payments ($41-42m per year for 30 years) as long as I can ensure that the money gets put into a trust for my toddler for when they grow up in the event of an untimely demise. With that kind of money you basically win the lottery every year though, which sounds pretty stressful. I d…
