for those not in the know, gfycat compresses animated gifs, providing for much smaller and longer animated gifs without having to embed a youtube. .gifv is kinda similar, but the imgur version. sorta how's about it, papa j? is there a plugin out there?

i have such mixed feelings about tripadvisor - i eat out a lot, and i love the way it gives power back to the consumer - if somewhere's a shithouse, you know in advance. on the other hand, the power is in the hands of the average internet consumer, who might give you one star rather than five if you get one slice of bread too many. reading the reviews sorted by worst to best only seems to confirm this. restaurants live or die by this shit these days. discounting the one and five star reviews give a more realistic picture. i've only rated one restaurant five stars, and it deserved it.

Happy All Hallow's Evening, dear twid knobblers. Used to spend a good bit of time here and moderate the new releases subforum - glad to see lots of familiar faces still about. ('ello there Atop, Chen, et al! And Joyrex, I extend a resolved and amicable handshake to thee.) Mostly stopping by out of sheer nostalgia and drawing down Facebook time-flushing, but also due to the output of some rather fine tunes in our department as of late. So, seems like as good a time as any to ask, how've you been doing WATMM? I've missed you. If you remember our jolly ol' text-based adventures of yore (trolling adventures count too I suppose), I'd love hear what's new, either …

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/steve-jobs-memorial-torn-down-in-russia-after-current-apple-ceo-tim-cook-comes-out-as-gay-9836630.html Really? nothing on this? Come on WATMM you're slipping. The question I really have in this whole thing though, is why the fuck was there a monument to Steve Jobs in St. Petersburg to begin with?

Dreams

Some days ago me and a couple of friends were on our way to the canteen and one of them started that classic yesterday i dreamt of talk, to which another replied i have had that dream too and yet another started narrating some other past dream. i couldn't do anything but listen to the wonderful descriptions of their surreal episodes. i said nothing about my own dreams, but didn't really understand why. started to think about the last dream i had, and couldn't remember a thing. then realized how rarely i dream - and i mean sleep dreaming - and when i do, i simply can't remember anything the day after. i think i am a daydreamer in the first place. i try to use my imagina…

I think we should indulge in another mspaint thread if that's ok. Here's a link to the "post your most recent pic" thread. http://forum.watmm.com/topic/76034-post-your-most-recent-picture-part-ii/ So pick something you like from there and mspaint it. I'll go ahead and start with Gaarg, because Gaarg is awesome.

So I dunno if it was cos it fell on a Friday night this year but Halloween in Shibuya was absolutely insane. I'm not quite sure the police (or anyone) expected it to be as mad as it was - and I honestly can't see the authorities allowing it to be as intense next year. It's Tokyo's version of Carnival. [music in the video: Lustmord] What did you lot get up to? I think I should wear that tiara 365 24/7. http://ikimasho.net/2014/11/02/ikimasho-tokyo-halloween-2014/

Tell me your stories and opinions please. It's never really worked for me, as I like my beer, and the two definitely don't mix (sea sickness on solid ground). However nowadays I don't drink half as much so perhaps may feel like the odd toke. Especially with listening to lots of music . Anyway, your thoughts are welcome.

You all remember the Dayvan Cowboy video with the Kittinger jump from the stratosphere (31km free fall). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Kittinger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDvwktPGUbM Today Felix Baumgartner will do a 36km jump. In Germany it's even live on TV (n-tv, 15:00 german time).

Bit of a serious thread. I need your help! I am working on a website/app that aims at helping people who move to a new city or area find the "right" place for them. Think about it as matchmaking for rental properties. I could really use your views on the experience of appartment/house hunting. If you have moved recently I'd especially like to hear from you: what were the things that frustrated you most during the whole process? Did you use Craigslist, rent.com, Trulia? What did you think of them? Thanks! SC

Since this is compilation number 13 and Halloween is coming up we decided to do another Halloween one. Because spooky is cool. The theme will be... Halloween, hinting at noise/dark ambient. And by "hinting at" I mean those are the two genres you should try and work within. Deadline is October 24 and if you're interested in doing anything, drop a message in this thread and I'll send you a message with all the exciting details soon-ish. Please don't send me anything before you've read the rules carefully. Also, 6000 posts fml
