so basically. i spilled wine on my macbook few days ago. i then disassambleed iand reassambled it to clean it and it worked fine. yesterday i took it with me to play a gig and weird thing started happening. it goes to sleep mode after a few seconds and wont turn back on. but, it gets weirder. if i open up the keybord and dont screw it back, just kinda lay it on top - it works fine as ever. but if i screw it back the way it should be it shuts down again. anyone knows what the heck?

I thought this documentary was interesting. How are humans going to adapt when robots take over for example low-skill and white collar jobs, which already are happening to a certain extent. Even on the creative side humans are to be challenged, according to the documentary. Does this mean owners of production and the robotic labuor will become richer and we'll see an increasing polarization, and a large number of the workforce will be completely left out of the economy? Or will humans simply just have more spare time and have less work to do. Are people even okay with that scenario? (if the resources coming from this robotic labour are equally distributed of…

http://www.fastcodesign.com/3032206/how-soviet-hipsters-saved-rock-n-roll-with-x-ray-records Because vinyl was scarce in the Soviet Union, the stilyagi would dig through hospital waste bins to find discarded X-Rays, which were both plentiful and cheap. Using a standard wax disk cutter, the stilyagi would copy Western records that managed to make it into the Soviet Union through satellite countries such as Hungary. They would then etch a copy of an album into the X-Ray, cut it into a crude circle with manicure scissors, and use a cigarette to burn a hole in the middle, allowing the record to be played on any turntable.

Alright, the first round of Bracketology begins! The basic idea of this project is to focus WATMM's considerable musical talents upon a Video Game-related topic: be it a specific game, franchise, genre, console etc. Voting in Round 1 whittled the topic choices from 33 to 18. Please continue voting for your favourites and don't be afraid to post tracks in the topic to support your choice(s)! For instance, one of the top-seeds from the past round was 'Deus Ex' which I have never played or heard the music of, so I for one would appreciate people posting some of their favourite tracks from the game(s). Now... :)

Satanist Statue coming to Oklahoma State Capitol? There is currently a Ten Commandments monument on the lawn of the Oklahama State Capital. The ACLU is in court fighting to have it removed on constitutional grounds. But if it's allowed to stand, then the Satanic Temple will have a good chance (legally, at least) of having the Baphomet statue installed beside the Ten Commandments monument. I listened to a Satanist talk about the matter and--not knowing much about Satanism--expected him to be a Norwegian death metal sorta guy. But he was just a regular, well-spoken guy with strong moral principles and a vast knowledge of history and comparative religion. He's…

The idea here is for WATMM to remix/cover the music of a video game related topic, be it a specific game, franchise, console, genre, etc. So I aggregated all the ideas that people mentioned in the previous topic and now we have the choices present in the poll. Please vote for your favourites and we will whittle this list down for the first round of Bracketology. Get voting! I will keep this open for 4ish days and then aggregate the topics with the most votes.

I am looking to upgrade my turntable, but I'm conflicted as to how I should be spending my money. I mean, technically instead of buying the hardware, I can be buying actual music. Also, as far as collecting vinyl as a hobby - each new LP is usually going for $30 USD with shipping. If you think about this, buying digital makes the most sense in terms of frugality. It doesn't take up any physical space, it's much cheaper, no waiting for shipping, etc. . . I'm almost talking myself out of it already, but I love vinyl despite what I've said. I'm interested in buying a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, which is $400 USD - going to spend what I've earned on my bandcamp page to fun…

First, yes I'm a liberal Dem, so this is a biased op-ed. I think most of our members lean liberal, but it's fascinating to me as an amateur anthropologist to see the party of Abraham Lincoln that freed the slaves, be perverted into a lobbying group for right wing, white, male, NRA supporting Christian extremists. They are so stuck in 20th Century politics, I honestly think a lot of them don't see it coming. The party will implode, and probly split into a more centrist Reps, and the extremist Tea Party. Remember , we used to have the Whigs is this country, and Ross Perot was basically his own party at first. So third parties are nothing new, but a forgotten part of Am…

It seems that there is a fair amount of interest in Video Game soundtracks on WATMM as evidenced by the many topics devoted to the subject. There are also many talented musicians here who may enjoy a context in which to try their hand at remixing/reinterpreting music from a specific game, franchise or genre. So, I propose that I (or whoever would want to help me) start laying the groundwork to organize a new WATMM compilation specific to the music of a game, franchise or genre in Videogaming. WATMM has organized such a compilation before: an excellent Mega Man-centric comp of remixes and covers. This is not to say that Mega Man would be off-limits though as there is …

Heyyo. My gf is moving to Utrecht to study and she is having problems finding a low price room to live in. Does anyone here have a good suggestion for a room that's below 300€ and half an hour or less away from the city place. Sorry for this spammy thread but it's a crisis and would help a lot so thanks a bunch.

relationships seem like a lot of sex, a lot of fighting, a lot of watching shows, and loads less creative work getting done. how do you watmmers manage to get quality work done while maintaining a romantic relationship with another human being?
