I thought it would be helpful if we have a pinned thread here in EKT listing all the latest audio apps that either become available, feature price drops, or are especially useful so fellow music makers here can be aware and take advantage of new tech and great deals. In each listing, please include the name, platform, and a picture or YouTube video detailing the app, along with any links to iTunes/Google Play/etc. where the app can be purchased.

Our first compilation, We Are The Music Makers | Volume One came out back in 2004. Since then, I've always wanted to do a Volume 2, following the same formula of having the community contribute tracks, vote on the best tracks by the community, and then have a professional-pressed CD of the release. It would be great if we could do a vinyl version as well, but of course that costs money - the way we did it back in 2004 was by getting at least 100 preorders to fund the CD pressing. This was long before things like Kickstarter, GoFundMe, etc. changed the crowdfunding landscape. Now, we could do the same, or maybe go the Kickstarter route like we did with the Caustic Win…

Curious what people think of this James Blake / Vault.FM thing. https://cdm.link/2024/03/james-blake-is-pitching-vault-a-subscription-download-service I kinda want to use subscriptions on Bandcamp but wondering if people actually pay for that for no-name artists. I know Amon Tobin has a good subscription community on Bandcamp, but don't know of other artists I follow.

So I'm looking into getting some more software to augment my creative process. I'm a complete noob when it comes to Max and a lot of DAW's as well. Is this the only way to get my hands on it and is there a cheaper alternative? http://cycling74.com/products/max/ I also want to use it with this because it seems interesting. http://www.dynamictonality.com/spectools.htm (also just logging this because I'm about to reformat today) I want to get Reaktor eventually as well. Do you think Reason + Reaktor + Max = a decent workflow? Is there overlap here? Suggestions for freeware/cheaper versions of Reaktor and Max are welcome as well. I was also co…

What's been activating your GAS lately? I've been stuck in a limbo where I know I need to upgrade my audio interface (to something with real multiple inputs—perhaps the KMI K-mix), and at some point get some good monitors (or at least something better than my logitech 5.1 setup that I've been producing with for the past 5 years or so..), but keep looking at ebay/gumtree/local sites/facebook groups with the hope of finding good deals on synths. My latest desire has been alternating between an analog/VA poly (for lush space chords) and something like a DX7 or CZ101.. I somehow got it into my head that it needs to be an all-in-one keyboard unit, therefore negating the…

I am currently looking for DJ equipment that will make me get used to the big decks that are used in clubs like the large pioneer DJ consoles but without spending 2000 bugs. What are my options? I also would prefer to have a usb stick version that doesn’t need a laptop and that might be compatible to the pioneer file system. Is there something like this starting in the lower price digits? Where is the lowest entry point in there that is still preparing me for a club setting?

WATMM is certainly interesting. As such, what other communities are you involved with that you find unique or special in some way? I think it's important, with such polarization online these days, that creative types have a place to feel included and heard. It's leveraging technology for the better, imho. Here are a few that some of you might also find worthwhile: VI Control - geared toward the cinematic and TV scoring crowd. Worthwhile discussions on a variety of topics. Lines - this started as a space for monome users, but has blossomed into a very thriving community. All range of electronic music discussion takes place and has a nice mix of ITB and …

Alright! I've been thinking of getting into generative music composition, but I'm not quite at the level of learning Max/MSP yet. Is there anything out there that will let me get into it without requiring coding knowledge? I've been playing around with a Reaktor ensemble called Super Random Machine but it's a bit limiting. Ideally I'd like to be able to plug a VSTi or three into a generative sequencer and adjust parameters until it's creating melodies and chord progressions the way I like. Or even something with it's own synthesis engine. Numerology comes close but it doesn't seem to work the way I want it to. I'm on a mac if it helps.

After messing around with VCV Rack for a couple years, I'm planning my first eurorack system. Surprised to not find a eurorack thread so figured this would be a good place to discuss. Here's a sampling system I am planning:

Wanted to ask a question for anybody who likes to produce their own music and also has experience DJing. I like to make music in Ableton as a hobby, but I do not have any midi controllers for using Ableton with, and I often struggle to handle transitions between sections that I make in session view. I have had some success doing this, but it is cumbersome and also not very fun or intuitive to set up transitions in arrangement view and then do trial-and-error with editing audio files. Now for the DJing part. My main friend group consists of a bunch of buddies I met in college who are part of a DJ crew, and one of them offered to teach me how to DJ. I was thinking of t…

Anyone know a good pre-amp for a turntable that's ideally around $100 or less? Maybe the worst timing possible... I got those two Aphex records, London and Barcelona from this year, and when I went to listen to them realized the pre-amp I've had from over a decade died. I shook it and there was a part rattling around. I've heard good things about Schiit and see one for $149 that includes an output but just wanted to see what you guys recommended.

For me it's really difficult to keep up the music making, while at the same time I have to juggle my full time job. The deadlines, the cerebral work, takes up a lot of mind space and kills all creativity. I think i need a level of boredom and to feel relaxed, which i often don't anymore. Work work work. Any tips how to sort of achieve that flow again? Thx
