So I was just sitting there picking my nose and staring at my desk when I realised that its covered with loads of music gear OMGZ! So I decided to post my kit list. Would be interesting to see other peoples as well. Suppose you could also list the plugins you use most often. Mine would be: Synths/Samplers/Recording gear: Roland SH-101 (grey, with mod grip), Yamaha AN1x, Korg Electribe ER-1, Yamaha A3000 (version 2), FAT PCP330 Procoder, Spirit Folio F1 mixer (12 channel version), Behringer MIC100 mic preamp, Emagic EMI 6|2m external sound card, Kenton Pro Solo MIDI-CV converter. Guitar stuff: Fender Mexican Stratocaster and …

i've tried google but i'm an idiot, so... i have an edirol ua-25 and it has S/PDIF inputs. if i get a synth what's the simplest way to record it with these inputs? only expensive new synths seem to have S/PDIF outs. would i be better off getting a di box and using the xlr inputs?

Aphex Twin I've noticed

the sweetest moments of aphex twin's music are usually contained in the last 20-30 seconds of every song. I think I'll make a mix.

Just got my copy of "Winnipeg Is A Frozen..."
by Guest hahathhat- 2 replies

I just got my copy of "Winnipeg Is A Frozen Shithole" in the mail. Haven't listened to it yet, but when I opened it just now, five little pieces of plastic that were formerly party of the center CD-stasis widget tappapped out onto my desk. it was like little bits of ice raining down for the winter. i thought of the title... then changed my mind. nah. can't be intentional.

tracker vst?
by Guest Garmonbozia- 4 replies
- 1.2k views
Is there a way to use a tracker as a vst in something such as in cubase? ...reason being that I ask is because I like to do drums in renoise, but everything else in cubase. Right now I'm just exporting the drums and putting them with rest of the stuff in cubase; if I could just have the tracker in cubase I think it would improve my work flow quite a bit.

I'm recently been re-encoding some of my CD's with VBR instead of 192Kbps and found that the file size increase is very small in comparison to the quality that you gain from it. The question is, what difference does it make to what minimum bit rate you choose when encoding stuff. I've currently got it set at min -> 32kbps max -> 320kbps and most of the files seem to hover around 192 but occasionally flicker up to 256 and 320 and silence goes down to 32kbps. Surely having the minimum set right down low is the best, but then why give the option about specifying a minimum. Does increasing the minimum create a better final result ? Any ideas, preferences. I don't w…

An inspirational gift for ambitous musicians

http://www.ubu.com/artist_index.html Would love to hear anything inspired by early film narratives - 1920's 1930's This place is vast - so do not be overwhelmed (as I am) but you are Expert Knob Twiddlers... It's pretty easy to navigate and i particularly enjoyed watching Hitcocks/Dalis collaborative film. There is also a maze of loopz and it's all free downloads. mini-system - if you are on here - knock yourself out - your studio is gorgeous. Dunno if it makes Joni's grade though. If this place is old news well...ok. post your favourites! Talk about talk about talk about music!

NI looking for product specialist in the NYC area
by Guest maus- 3 replies

Hey guys. Wanted to post this here as I thought there might be some of you interested. Native Instruments is looking for a product specialist in the NYC area. Not sure if any of you are living out that way at the moment, but I figured it was worth a shot, as some of you seem to know NI products pretty well. It's a part-time gig... couple days a week. You need reliable transportation outside of the city, and have to be willing to travel to some extent. I'm pasting the full description of the job below as it's listed on the NI site. You can either contact the email address at the bottom, or just PM me directly if you have any questions. Cheers, c …

Poor emulations of 303 1 2
by Guest chunky- 33 replies
- 2.2k views
Honestly, it is impossible. There is nothing close enough. It is a negative thing to say, and it is an unpopular way of seeing things, but unfortunately it is true. Really if you are making public music with this, you are spreading a poor imitation of a machine sound, regardless of the rest of the song. That is a difficult position, but if you feel you have to do it no matter what the weaknesses are, then go ahead and don't be afraid because even if you choose bad things in themselves perhaps you have the will to make a fun or good song that you love anyway. But I owned a 303 for 6 years, so I am experienced in that and VST to say nothing ever comes even close, sorry if t…

hi there i got my microkorg plugged into my computer via midi-usb on ableton, and have put notes onto the midi file thing (the simple midi note track), and have the sound i want on my microkorg. now how do i make sure that that particular sound on my microkorg will be played when i press play on the ableton button on the particular midi track? in other words when i turn my computer on the next day for example, and open up a ableton saved set, how can i make it so that the track which is the microkorg, will play the specific program i had it on the previous day, without having to search for it on my microkorg? also, is there anyway of having several or…
