Through the use of OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 API and TouchDesigner, I’ve managed to create a, let’s say, MIDI sequencer that captures RGB data incoming from AI generated images in real-time, and uses it to trigger MIDI events in Ableton Live. Said signals are then feeding, among other things, two wavetables in the first two examples, and my lovely new Prophet 6 in the other ones. In short: The idea was to have a system that, given certain concepts (a.k.a prompts), generates chord progressions from the RGB incoming data resulting from the DALL-E generated images. Concept [prompt] ➨ AI generated image [DALL-E 2] ➨ capturing RGB data in real-time [TouchDesigner] ➨ using th…

I like to keep a recording box hanging off my mixing desk. only problem is I keep missing the record button when I come back from a break or what have you and lose that un repeatable take. Or I forget to turn off record and I have these huge files to deal with. I emailed the makers of mine but we will see how far that gets me. Anyone know of something with good audio quality AND sound activated recording?

A couple of example results from my latest system, a video player with an audioreactive playhead. There’s a couple of things more to it, but I’ll leave it to my patrons to explore. You can access this system plus many more in my Patreon profile: https://linktr.ee/uisato

So a friend and I are wanting to jam in real time. We managed to set up our midi easily to where he can play midi in my daw from across the internet, now all we need to do is figure out the best ways to setup an audio stream we both can hear, so he can hear what he is doing. We are cool with it being low quality streaming as it's more about feedback on his end, and I'll be adding FX and such in my DAW. He will be playing on keyboard and reacting to it. Basically jamming. We were thinking of trying to use Zoom or something, but I imagine there must be better ways to do this. We also see there are subscription model services, and we MAY end up having to use it, but we …

writing melodies 1 2 3 4 10

I've been really struggling writing melodies recently. I used to write all of my melodies on my guitar, no problem, they would write themselves. Now I'm trying to depart from that and write on the keyboard or write by arranging samples, and it's really tough. Anyone got a nifty trick they use to get kick-started on a good melody? For example, would you start with a simple bassline and then start building on that? Or a simple keyboard lick first? It's weird how shitty my keyboard melodies sound, whereas on the guitar they always sounded pretty good to me. Maybe it has something to do with the layout.

Been playing live semi-frequently the past year. Recently I started using virtual dj and a MacBook Air with a korg nano control. Such a fun way to perform! So many interesting ways to bend and shape and blend tracks in real-time. It also much lower stress, because I’m working with finished tracks, but still have a lot of expression control. but is that really playing live? What is playing live? Is doing cool live blends and reinterpretations of tracks playing live? Or is playing stems in ableton with a pad controller live? Or does it have to be live vst midi clip launching and parameter tweaking? Or is it playing real instruments into your laptop and tweaking it?…

Hello. I wish to record sound for my music production, tho I'm looking for more weird, interesting sounds, not just birds and such (which I love). Any places you have in mind with interesting sonics?

Hello, some of you may be interested in this free online course about music production by Berklee college, it's fairly basic stuff but presented in a rational and engaging way. The course will last 6 weeks, you'll have to fill some assignments and you'll get a frequency certification at end if you pass the various tests. It's not too much time consuming, I've gone trough the first lesson videos and filled the quizzes in less than 2 hours. Here's the syllabus of the whole course: Lesson 1: Recording Signal Flow Sound, Microphones, Cables, Microphone Preamp, A to D Converter, DAW, DSP, D to A converter, Amplifier, Speakers (path of speaker is same as wavesh…

Text to image stuff is great, but this is what I've been waiting for. There isn't much yet, and the samples are kinda rudimentary, but you know it's coming to take our jobs and its gonna be great for electronic musicians. Just posting this as a hub for this stuff. https://felixkreuk.github.io/text2audio_arxiv_samples/ The talking samples sound like they belong on The Sims.

I've been thinking more about generative processes for composition, but have been very unimpressed with most of what I have heard, most of it is soulless, aimless, and generally not very interesting. However Autechre seem to have solved these issues completely, so I have attempted to figure out how this is possible: There are 3 main issues I see. Firstly, randomness; in order to add variation a lot of people introduce randomness, this results in music that at least has variation and can morph over time, but there is no good reason for any of these changes, so its meaningless and uninteresting. The second issue is that most of the generation I've seen is only loosely …

People like Sean from Autechre always seem to bash on people that making music in a Linear way. It is extremely limited compared to making music In a non-Linear way according to him. I wonder.. In what way is it more limited? Linear-music making is also created with sounds/noise made in a amount of time right? Do you unlock more time if you get it done in Non-Linear way? What way is the best way to sequence music ? How do you sequence your music if not the traditional way? Peace

seriously though, i think it's kinda weird how people here don't seem to care much about harmony. i mean there have been a few threads on the topic in the past but nothing really substantial. and don't tell me the folks here are simply not interested in discussing this topic and prefer educate themselves on their own, cause that's a fucking lie. how do i know? i've listened to your tunes in YLC, guys. the harmony's pretty bad (most of the time). no the truth is, the vast majority of watmmers don't seem to be interested in harmony at all, hence why the topic is hardly ever discussed - usually in a superficial way. there's this gap between those who know a little bit about …

Bouncing off a sidechain (haha) conversation from YLC, starting a thread about all things Renoise. Know there are some folks here who are using Renoise (chronical, milkyheart, Consul, JTPE, etc.) and a wide range of level of experience (from noob all the way to Guru MF'in Masters). The point of this thread is to have a centralized place to put Renoise tips, thoughts, questions, recommendations, themes, etc. Hopefully a place where more experienced Renoisers (that are also WATMM'rs) can share their wisdom. Maybe it'll inspire some folks to pick up the software and discover the wonders of tracking. Some caveats: Yes, we ALL KNOW that there is a dedicated Renoise forum…

https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209069989-Using-multiple-hard-drives This article recommends using 3 hard drives. Can I get away with only 2? How abouts installing the program to system disk and then using an external Samsung t7 ssd for samples and libraries & audio recording and file caching ?? Thanks y'all Would I benefit using a 3rd 500gb t7 for audio recording and caching?

I made TidalCycles with some friends, a live coding environment for generating pattern. It's free/open source + cross platform, and for the latest release (0.8) we concentrated on making it easier to install. Here's some videos of it in use: https://archive.org/details/14Performance-SharedBufferXA.CardenasA.McLeanDavidOgbornE.Tsabary more here: http://tidalcycles.org/videos.html would be great to know what you think cheers

I KNOW THIS MIGHT BE NOT THE RIGHT PLACE... BUT YOU GUY DON'T HAVE A PLACE FOR IT I guess a lot of you are familiar with the music of the talented Nnirror. He uploaded a couple of years ago a great patch for MAX, and I've been trying to "convert" that patch into a max for Live instrument, but I hardly can understand the process, unfortunately, my lack of knowledge in the program is my failure. This patch is awesome, I want to use it in my DAW, so I was thinking if maybe one of the members on this blog has the ability to convert this, I would be more than grateful to receive such a gift. I'm going to leave links to the patch in GitHub and a video of the patch…

I need a digital recorder, and I was just going to go with the maudio microtrack, but apparently that has been discontinued. I need something in the same price range, with a stereo in port. Any recommendations watmm? I'd love a Sony PCM dm50, but that's too expensive...
