Retrofit or CV converter?
by Guest butane bob- 2 replies

Hi peeps. I recently bought an SH 101 and I can't decide whether to buy a synhouse MIDIJack and install it myself, or just spend a bit more and get a Kenton Pro Solo. Advantages of the MIDIJack is that it fits inside. Disadvantage is that it won't run off battery supply, and only does CV/Gate. Advantage of a Pro Solo is that it can also clock the arpeggiator/sequencer. Disadvantage: $50 more, needs a wall wart PSU, and it's a dirty great metal box. Anyone done retrofit DIY?

A question for kcinsu

mathew, you studied composition in an university in boston. i know from several websites where you can learn about some music theory and stuff... i´m poor, live far far away and studying composition it´s pretty complex here - plus the schools here are dogmatic, boring, and old-schooled. so, i´m searching for some resources for composition, stuff to read, in general. i´m mostly interested in pop music, nothing very complex, but i want to learn. is it worth it? anything to add to this? thanks ezeh

who wants a remix? 1 2

As an aspiring electronic super-star sellout what better way for me to boost my profile than to remix songs for madonna, beyonce, justin timberlake and the likes. uhhh, but they're not phoning so one of you guys'll do instead, plus it'll be a lot more interesting! i think i'm gonna do 3 but will do one from here and 2 from myspace folks probably to keep it varied. first to fire me a bag o' bits to greenbank@gmail.com gets a mix done. be aware that it may come out exceedingly 80sish! i can probably handle any format, i prefer .wavs and i prefer to hear the original track too.

http://www.zzounds.com/item--NINESSENTIALS Normally this goes for like $400-450 . but this is about $100 cheaper, and is the same price as absynth alone I'm thinking about buying this but worried that it might be the upgrade.or that they will change the price So is this to good to be true?

Alesis “Ion” 1 2
by Guest meneedit- 28 replies

Hello! Just got my first good keyboard: the Alesis “Ion”. Obviously, because I am new to it, I have hundreds of questions; but first of all I just wanna say it is a kick ass synth with lots of presets (not that I use presets the way they are) and lots of functionality. As far as I’m concerned, the following questions cannot be answered by going through the manual: 1. I think I have only just worked out those “part” buttons. Would I be right in saying it is so that you can have synths from all four banks going at once? 2. The preset “Green 83” is called “Zorgan”. Try it out... ...It appears to have either a Volume LFO or Tremolo. Either way I wan…

What's your tools? techniques? plug-ins? I don't do much of this kind of stuff, but when I do, it seems to be all about classic breaks and lots of processing of individual hits...? Am I on the right tracks?

So, I took this class last semester, that focused on Indian and electronic music. Basically we learned about some ragas, the various classical instruments, and current Indian pop music. These are 3 assignments I did. Bansuri/Sarod Remix ^for this one, we were given improve sessions of a Bansuri (bamboo flute) and a Sarod (stringed instrument) and we had to go an cut out phrased we liked, and then produce a track around them. This is an uplifting downtempo track. Om Remix ^for this one, we were given the vocal line, and had to write a track around it. Its an Indian chant used for meditation. This one is an orchestral/electronic hybrid Dum Maro Dum ^t…

I need control!
by Guest The Animator- 5 replies

I have a question regarding using Ableton Live, hopefully someone knows the answer to this. I have been using Ableton Live 3 for quite a while (only for live gigs, not for recording or production) and so far it's been great. Recently however, I have been trying to play bass along to the live set and I'm having a few control difficulties. I use about 40-50 loops in sequence and go through them using the down curser key and the enter button to play them (I can't use key shortcuts to do this because I simply run out of keys). However, in order to do this while playing bass I need to be able to scroll through the samples (using equivalent midi controls to the down cu…
