Reel-to-Reel help needed
by Guest dugbert- 18 replies
- 1.6k views
so I got this machine the other day, everything works, but I don't know the correct way to route the tape through all these wheels. If someone knows how to set this up, they should download this picture and throw down some lines in mspaint to show me where the tape goes. i color coded the wheels so i can talk about them and so you can see them more clearly. the blue one always spins at the speed the machine is set to, whether the reels are moving or not. the pink one has a free-spinning black rubber wheel around it, and can be pushed toward the blue one. the orange one clicks into the left position like it is shown in the picture. when it is engaged lik…

When youv'e compressed a synth and got it at the volume you need it at but it still doesnt sound right, what does it need? also I have a question about compressors and limiters. A compressor is used to take care of harsh peaks and have some more control over the synth. From what From what I understand, a compressor not only keeps the sound above a certain level but depending on how you use the threshold it can also be used to keep the sound above a certain level at the same time. what does a limiter do and what sort of things should you use it on. I dunno guys, I guess i've just been pissed off lately because I can't get synths to sound the way I want …

DRUM MACHINES... I just want a good one
by Guest meneedit- 17 replies

I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to get anywhere until I buy myself a drum machine. It's just not possible to make good beats without one Regardless of how much you can do with sound you cannot polish a turd. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ages ago on this website I asked you guys which was the best drum machine to get for electronic drums. Anyway, somebody on this site did me a huge favour and gave me samples of his drumkit so that I could decide whether I wanted to buy that particular drum machine or not. I was ready to buy it until at the last second I thought hang on …

good eq guides for newbies

I finally have all the parts of a remix synced up but the levels and eq sound retarded. can anyone recommend a guide in laymens terms explaining the basics? also, one thing I never understood...how good does a song sound before it gets to the mastering process? Is it usually pretty finessed eq-wise or does the engineer really bring all the parts together?

Automapping goes large! 20 January 2006 The ReMOTE 25 SL heralded a completely new era of MIDI control. It’s the first controller keyboard that detects the software you are using in your virtual studio and logically ‘automaps’ that software’s controllers to the keyboard’s own front panel knobs and sliders, all at the click of a button. In short, no more fiddly overlays as the keyboard takes all the hard work out of assigning its controls to the software you are using. The SL25 also quite literally set the world alight with two massive, brightly-lit LCDs which can show 16 different parameter names to match with the fascia controls, so that the user knows exact…

I find that sound so fucking haunting, I'm sure its an Oberheim 8, anyone else got any ideas or DIY presets that sound like it they could send me? I've been trying to get it down on various anallogins emulations, but with mixed results, once i figure out how to store patches on some of my synths, i'll be dropping an fxb jaffa sound design library in a thread for you to use because thats how kind I am.

...and loads of other controllers too, see http://www.faderfox.de they'll cost around 175 euros (and are made in germany) the 'DJ2' looks really great IMHO, a bcr2000 and two DJ2's must be the perfect 4-deck traktor setup!

ReWire
by Guest blicero- 4 replies

I am a big time Reason user. but i want to be able to do more with reason. I would like to have reason run alongside audio tracks, and also be able to use VST fx with reason. i've used reason w/ ableton (4?) and was not impressed. it kept losing the first 1/4 note every time it looped. there is one thing that i MUST be able to do though. i MUST be able to control Reason LIVE using my midi controller. so no matter what Rewire host i'm using, it must allow me to control Reason via midi, LIVE, not just through a pre-automated midi track. any recommendations? -cubase? -sonar? -ableton 5? what other programs work as Rewire hosts?

hi there, i've seen and heard a few artists use a NES to make there music, and i want to try this out too. i have no idea how to set this up, so all i've got to go is a NES system and that all, my request is, how and what do i need to play this, etc... cables software. when i finaly get it done does it come to be a coverter for sounds, etc...do i make a melody using a software tool like minimoog then somehow play it threw this machine then back to the computer, or do i use the NES like emulation(which i have no clue how to do), or what, drum machine? also maybe i can do this with the Super NES thanks

Hello people, first post and all that. Refered here by the man Gump. Eventually getting started on making my own music, been in a band for ages but I've been wanting to do my own thing as well for a while. After trying a few music making programmes getting nowhere I've discovered Fruityloops 6 producer edition, which is serving me well, however I'd love to know if it's possible to lay my guitar and bass onto tracks and would be obliged if someone could tell me if that's possible and how it's done. And whilst we're here how do I add differant vst? samples to the bank on fruityloops? Cheers.

building a MIDI splitter/THRU box
by Guest dugbert- 4 replies

i sure as hell am not going to pay $50 for one of these. anyone ever tried this? it seems really simple i wonder if i could pick female 5-pin pieces for the cables at a local electronic shop? i hope that sort of thing is fairly common. i don't know a lot about electronics, but i recall that in MIDI cables only 3 of the 5 pins are used. it seems like it would be really easy to just split the signal from one input to 4-5 outputs. i don't know what else i need to do. perhaps add a few more components keep the signal strong for each output let's hear some ideas

Layers in wav editors

Is there any decent wav editors that allow layers? So for example if I wanted to construct a new beat over a break and then take the original out at the end so i'm left with my new beat, how could i do that?

So I'm looking to get some turntables right, not for battling or scratching...I figure just some simple 1200's will be nice? Any advice/recommendation what nots? Vestax vs Technics? Mixer recommendations? I already have a cheapo one at home, but might be nice to get something a little more upmarket...I don't need 12 channels and millions of effect sends/EQs..probably just Hi/Lo and sweepable mids... thanks for the help...in advance.

haven't really downloaded much music for a while due to no internet connection at home, but now that i'm up and running i've been quite disappointed with slsk. there seems to be less good music up there than there used to be. what are y'all using these days? dc++ or those torrent thingies wat i don't really understand?
