What plugins do you use as standard for drum track? I mean anything. be it compression limiting or fx. At the moment im using Classic compressor and subtle dashes of reverb , i tend to find that vintage warmer just muddies the hits, but this could be due to the fact i havent got a clue what does what and im twiddling levels at randomn. Any help? Just want my drums to bite more, any recommendations?

Best place to host music?
by Guest M83J01P97- 6 replies

I've been working on quite a bit of music for a while now, and I think I am finally ready to put some of it online for others to judge and rip to pieces... But I don't have any kind of web space or anything like that. So can anyone suggest any decent sites that offer free hosting for say an EP's worth of MP3's? I'd like to avoid Myspace if at all possible...

free homemade korg ms20 sounds FOUND
by Guest juicyO- 1 reply

hey all. first post here, i thought i would share some free samples i stumbled upon. they sound amazing and RAW. enjoy. taken from mpc-forums.com -------------------- i've mutli-sampled my korg ms 20 and made a few programs. mostly bass programs. NO compression/eq/normalizing was used, i wanted to keep it raw and leave more room for experimentation. although i did run the synth through some fx(photos below). there's no looping of samples, so some of the programs are a little large, they can be used with softsampler... i'm working on a whole lot more but i was needin' some feedback on sounds/programming and etc. so let me know what you think. all s…

My laptop is acting up... Ever time I play whatever I've created in Logic it plays for a couple of seconds I get this warning: "PC AV: System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required date in time (-10011)" I don't get it! A couple of days ago there was nothing wrong with my computer, then one night as I accidently opened a lot of applications at once and I were receiving a few tracks via Skype and ever since it has been acting like a little bitch. From the look of that warning it mayb be the soundcard that may be too slow, but the computer just seems a lot slower in general. Whenever I open a track where I've used Battery2 it takes about …

Good 16 Channel Analog Mixers
by Guest Diao- 5 replies
- 1.5k views
Ok here is the deal. I've got a 12 channel Behringer mixer, and the bastard is noisy as hell. It has no busses, so I have no options for routing, blah blah blah, its shit. I've wanted to get a fairly decent 16 channel analog mixer for my schtuff. Here are my requirements: SLIDERS: I hate having stupid ass knobs to control my volume, makes it tough to fade two tracks in and out equally. BUSSES: I need to have at least 2 effects send to process reverb and distortion and whatnot. LED SIGNAL MONITORS: It sounds silly, I know, but I would like to have LEDs that show the volume of the master mix. So far I have looked at a Mackie 1604 and a T…

Hello all, firstly apologies for the total newbie style post this is about to turn into. I've been reading this forum for a little while now and it seems you people are fairly knowledgable so hopefully you won't mind my queries too much! Basically I am after sorting myself out with a new PC, primarily for audio processing and Internet usage/dl'ing. However I've never actually bought a PC myself before, I've always had hand-me-down's and 2nd hand ones, so I was wondering what sort of spec's would be good for getting into making music a little more (my experience thus far is messing about on old versions of Fruity Loops, would like to get slightly more professional :)),…

how can i get lower latency
by Guest jim- 3 replies
i've got a nice new laptop and a keyboard and an electric piano both with midi in/out/thru and a little m-audio usb midi adaptor but the latency i get is still intolerable. What do i actually need to do to get it down to zero or as close as possible? i'd like to be able to just hit record and play things in instead of spending ages on a fucking piano roll which is just soul destroying.

modifying a synth... i want to know if my synth can be modded. can only analog shit be modded? i just think it would be sweet if i could get my rm1x modified so that it has 16 audio outputs that i could apply effects to , each channel seperately kinda a dream but i wonder if it's possible (?)

luke vibert help.what do IDM performers use 1 2
by Guest môak- 31 replies

hi, i'm not very with it in terms of music productioni just use FL5, and i only know simplicity, so if you could hold back from the sarcasim it would be nice. my question is what do for example luke vibert use when he is up on the stage making the music live, is he using loops of audio drum patterns, i beleive this is how it's done, but MIDI, i'm not quite sure?, is it wise to use a program like FL5 studio? what programs do they use?, cause i've seen programs such as sweet sixteen a midi program but i tried this and it's not a live performance thing...(i know i sound like an idiot)-but all i want to do is load wavs or mp3 (most perferbly wavs), into a progra…

music in dreams that doesnt exist
by Guest thad- 23 replies

I've had incredible dreams where ive either been listening to something on the stereo or its just a soundtrack to my dream but the music doesnt actually exist in the real world...and its one of the best things ive ever heard (at least it seems so in the dream) sometimes, rarely though, right when i wake up, its still there in my head and it still sounds amazing but ive never been able to transfer that to something ive written. it fades away too fast. most of the time its gone right when i wake up. i would think this has happened to most people who love music. i read that paul mccartney got the chords for 'yesterday' this way. i had another one of these dream…

Mbox help

hi, i recently found an Mbox from someone, and i have no idea how to use it. the problem is i'm not sure how to use it, since i'm no expert, i'am asking anyone here who knows anything about the Mbox hardware, what can i use it for, is it used for MIDI, or what, how can i incorporate it into music making, and i don't want to be able to sing, for instance will this thing allow me to use Traktor DJ Studio propaly, meaning when i use DJ studio, i only have my headphones plugged into the computer, will this device allow me seperate different channels into different speakers etc. how can i use this for FL5, or live performance. also the main reason i post this is be…

Logic as a slave of sorts???
by Guest Braindance- 4 replies

I have an atari sitting here which i want to run with some old style sequencing programs. problem is i dont have any hardware sound modules. so my question is; can I have my atari hooked up via midi to my pc running logic and have logic just operate as a sound module?? I have tried this and what I managed was to get a midi part recorded on the atari cubase which plays one of the audio instruments in Logic. The problem however was that you would only hear that audio instrument if you were selected onto that track in logic. This of course ruled out any arrangement with multiple instruments. im sure this must be a basic midi setup but my mind doesnt seem to be hi…

I'm thinking of building a set of electrostatic speakers. I found a nice tutorial over here: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~wradford/panel_construct.htm Sounds good to me... I really need a decent pair of speakers without spending a lot of money, and I think this could be a cool project to do. I haven't done much research into the subject yet though. Anyone have experience with this shit?
