Sampling Synths 1 2
by YEK- 30 replies

Just curious how you people sample your synths. Do you sample one note and transpose it or sample long melody phrases. I bought a couple synths and am a bit confused how to integrate them into my setup. Also I'd prefer to sequence in my daw and I'm not that good with playing keys by hand but I could...

Anyone a user of this program here? I bought it a few months back and have completely fallen in love with it. I'm pretty new to using software for sequencing but people describe it as being like Max but devoted entirely to MIDI. I've already got a ton of really nice results from it and even more inspiration but would love to have other people to chat with about patch designing and such. Here's the site if anyone's interested in having a look: https://www.loomer.co.uk/architect.htm The demo version is free and the only limitation is that you can't save a project. You can however save your patches as 'fragments' which can then be loaded so not being able to save pr…

Beginning to feel FM. I think they're some pretty cool sounds to be had and its quite versatile. I do like some cheesy ass presets like brass, bass and ep but the more esoteric sounds are beginning to float my boat too. Yay!!!

https://www.bespokesynth.com/ I have not had time to play with it more than just click the video in this tweet, but I hear from other experiences that this is the real good shit. Runs on Linux even! Free! I do not know what's the catch.

https://vcvrack.com/ A new virtual modular system, free and open source. It looks pretty nice, not a lot of modules yet but some of the Mutable Instruments modules use the original source code, they say. Code is on github but there's not much in the way of documentation yet https://github.com/VCVRack/Rack

Hey everyone, I'm looking for new ways to process audio within Ableton Live. Currently, I make heavy use of time stretching, grain delay, auto filter, the Paul Stretch VST, flanger, reverb, redux, and the other modules to a lesser extent. After using Ableton for over ten years now, I'd like to add to my toolkit and am curious what people within the IDM community are using. Bonus points for free software, of course.

Hi All! I'm getting a live set together and my Machinedrum UW has fast become the cornerstone of my set up. Anybody else out there love their Machinedrum? Bonus points if you wanna share patches.

Looking for any experience here with members doing a home run of tapes in the US, has anyone on this side of the pond done that? I would dub them myself, but looking into a budget for j-card printing, shells, cassettes, suppliers, printers, etc. Is the turn around time different since the pandemic began? any info at all greatly appreciated. here's what I found so far: https://www.musicgateway.com/blog/how-to/cassette-tape-duplication-usa https://www.atozmedia.com/cassettes/ https://www.duplication.ca/quotes/ca/en/cassette-packages.php I've seen some labels dump on 8merch before on Twitter, not even sure where they are.

Pointcloud me controlling some parameters of a REPRO-5 in Ableton Live with my right hand’s X and Y axis through the use of TouchDesigner’s TDAbleton component and Kinect CHOP. Thought some of you guys might dig into this kind of experiments. 😄

Just started using REAPER... Its an amazing program but as a result quite hard to figure out how to configure the actions to suit your workflow. Anyone got any awesome tips and advise for REAPER converts?

Flash Crash IV is slated for September 4. This will be streamed on the lines_community Twitch channel. We are looking for live code performers to play a ~20 minute set. Max is strongly preferred, but other platforms are also welcome - previous performances have included ORC/\, SuperCollider, TidalCycles, Teletype, and Druid (Crow). Performing live is great if your network connection and anxiety level allow; pre-recorded is good too.

Qualifiers are: A. You need to be able to make patches on the synth itself, editors don’t count B. Could be a stand-alone synth or a groove box, as long as it has synthesis. C. I envision most people are using gear alongside a DAW, so something that has audio over USB would be a consideration. D. $400 max the two that come to mind for me right now are the reface CS and a model cycles. Both are super cheap and can do a ton of stuff. Honestly if I had to pick one cheap piece of gear, it would be cycles, but something like a CS would be really cool to just have as a quick way to build patches and record.

Hi guys Presumably like many other folk, lockdown has inspired me to dust off my gear and start making tunes again after a couple years of being lazy. I've got a few finished bits that I'd like to have mastered. How do you guys handle the mastering side of things? It seems there are tons of options available. Are you sending your stuff to proper engineers? or the dudes that operate on sites like Fiverr? Are automated mastering services such as LANDR any good? Do you do the mastering yourselves? I'd be interested to know what route would be best for my shit. Thanks!

How many tracks have you got out there, and which one is your personal favourite? Tough ask maybe There's so many posters with so many BandClouds™ that it would take a long time to go through them all. A LONG time. I'm not gonna tell you mine as it makes the thread sound like "hey guys listen to me, listen to my tunes, liiiiiiiiiiiisten" but it's not that, I wanna know yours Sorry if this thread has been done afore

You guys seen this? http://www.beepstreet.com/ios/drambo It’s a modular music studio for iOS that comes with more than a hundred modules including samplers and stuff and a sequencer that can be p-locked. Demos look interesting. Here’s a quick overview: But there’s more. I thought the “samplers” demo was pretty neat as well: All this for 22 bucks. Tempting.

Audacity 1 2

Could not find a dedicated topic for this fantastic (free!) program. It is very versatile, has lots of build in effects, can easily layer up loads of files. The envelope tools are really handy too. And it just had a new major upgrade to V3.0 https://www.audacityteam.org/audacity-3-0-0-released/ Mainly this deals with upgrading their file save format .aup which was fine unless you moved files during the process as it just points to them then your saves don't work. They have updated the noise gate too, and fixed a bunch of bugs. Still my favourite audio editing program, most of my releases so far have been assembled with it as I record with hardwar…

so i've recently gotten back into nanoloop in all it's variations. i had put it aside for many years after my original nanoloop 1.2 cart battery died and scrambled all my files. i starting a while back with the android version, then (after getting a new phone) the iphone version. more recently i purchased the nanoloop 1.7.x cart for classic gb and this week received a 2.7.x cart for gba. i'll also more than likely purchase the nanoloop mono when it releases next month. anyways i just thought maybe some of you guys could post some of your favorite tips for nl in all of it's forms. i was a honestly quite surprised at some strange differences in features betw…

Hardware reverb 1 2 3
by posture- 64 replies

What would be the best bet for finding a hardware reverb unit for cheap, that doesn't sound like total ass. I don't like when reverb has too much noise associated with it. I just want it to be lush and warm sounding, thinking along the lines of the bass sound on the Aphex song Tha. Also where to look, and what to look for. I'm poor, so I have a cash converters (lol) a few minutes from my house where I see a lot of rack mount stuff so that's where I'd probably look first. Then I guess random mom and pop music shops/ebay/craigslist or something. I plan on using it with synths, and eventually one day with guitars so I can achieve my musical fantasy of making s…
