i realize we have these list things on a regular basis (perhaps too regular), but i can't recall having seen one in the past year ... plus the TCH tracks will surely change any top 10 list (it changed mine, at least). also i think we should allow remixes, old tunes stuff, and the short 'bridge' tracks, but i leave this up to each of you in making your own lists. well: 1. left side drive 2. slow this bird down 3. kid for today 4. iabpoitc 5. broken drum remix 6. dayvan cowboy 7. julie and candy 8. olson 9. everything you do is a balloon 10. telephasic workshop [edited three times, most recently 12.04.06]

666?! 1 2 3
by tarsier888- 55 replies

i don't understand this. what is with BoC and their fascination with those three numbers? i read in an interview that they said they are NOT satanic, and i've heard that they are not satanic in quite a few places.. but why are they so obsessed with 666? i mean, they added the magic window song just to get the album play time up to 66 minutes and 6 seconds, and the new trailer had 666 stuff, so what's up!?

Hey, thought I'd stir things up and pose a question that has ran through my mind for a while now... It's obvious that BOC tend to reference, and at times use, a plethora of mathematics in their music. However, I'm curious to what extent have they studied the subject? A lot of the compositions and references seem to allude that they have an acute understanding of systems, formulas, etc. Reading that Matador bio, it mentioned that Mike(?) was attending college at one point but dropped out... It also mentioned that one of them programmed a melody using an equation of some sort. Granted that is nothing new in the electronic music industry (specifically elec…

Another old piece I came across recently, this interview of Michael Sandison by the German magazine De:Bug. Hadn't seen it before and it's not on Fredd's site. Babelfish does a passable job of translating it, but a manual translation would be nice if anyone on here knows German.

Tears From The Compound Eye

As I listen to it, I just felt compelled to post in and say how gorgeously sublime 'Tears From The Compound Eye' is. On a par with other beatless BOC classics like 'Olson' or 'Bocuma'. Do you agree?????

Boards of Canada Old BoC bio

I was doing some archive diving yesterday and I came across this old Boards of Canada biography from Matador's old site, which I had never seen before. It's another Goderich-produced piece and it's the longest one I've seen, with a lot of information on the pre-pre-pre-Twoism days. Very interesting read.

what do song titles mean

what do you think boards song titles mean?? I reckon everything you do is a balloon is about the fleeting nature of your actions, how events float off into into insignificance or become distant memories

ATTN: Chromakey Dreamcoat

It IS just a coincidence. In Scotland (my grandfather was Scottish) and elsewhere, there are many people with Iain in their name. Many of their names also feature the letter C. Posting this publically rather than by PM so everyone can laugh at how bloody stupid the BoC subforum mindset has become.

I saw a commercial for this show (MTV - Fast Inc.) on MTV, with Dayvan Cowboy playing in the background. I am kind of dissappointed to see BOC's music be used like this. Anyone else see this?

I made a rip of the unreleased tracks posted on BOC's web sites (music70.com and the recently resurrected boardsofcanada.com). the tracks are: 1. Navigation Intro 2. Trails 3. Seven Forty Seven 4. Gann 5. Time Apple The songs were encoded directly from .wav to 320 kbps mp3 so there should be little to no loss or compression (beyond that present in the original). enjoy 01_Navigation.mp3 02_Trails.mp3 03_Seven_Forty_Seven.mp3 04_Gann.mp3 05_Time_Apple.mp3

Magic Window or 4′33″?

I lean towards 4′33″ by John Cage as the last movement is killer. I'm working on a mashup mix of the two. will share when done. i wish i could make this a poll.
