  2. Hi david 1806 on behalf of the rest of WATMM I would like to welcome you to the foremost home of IDM conversation and gentle banter. I'm pleased to say we have recently been rated one of the best and most friendly communities on the internet and I'm sure my fellow IDM (and other extreme musics of course :P) enthusiasts will welcome you here with open arms. Please take the time to peruse the various subforums we have. EKT is a particular favourite on this board and I highly recommend checking out any work posted by The Bro, he's possibly our most profilic producer. I myself like to listen

  4. It was a weird decade for electronic music for sure. I had an early infatuation with the dubstep scene and the speed at which things crashed and burned was surreal. Had some good parties and some joints by Burial and Mala are still worth a listen, but the formula got old fast. My best memories of tracks are lost forever as they were mostly heard in obscure mixes around the turn of the decade. The same kind of meltdown happened across the board (glitch/neuro hop was promising until Monster Cat annexed the whole genre), but it seems to have been a good thing as deeper genres are making a return.

  5. Agreed. I listen to any section of NTS and consider it some of AE's best work.... and then....- THEN -....I throw any part of elseq on and.... every single part of my little pleb mind is completely ripped apart and pieced back together by the otherworldly sounds coming through my never-going-to-be-good-enough-to-fully-present-the-artist's-vision-speakers and I melt into the floor until the only sound I can hear is the low-level hum coming through said speakers after foobar has no more data to read and I open my eyes only to realize that hours have passed and I'm just a lowly mass of wort

  8. Your reasoning reminded me of Nash, btw. Like the focus on the mathematical perspective on empathy and cooperation through game theory. Thing with his approach was the dependence on rationality. Which ended up to be an interesting and useful approach, but a poor explanation of human behavior. As it overstates the importance of rational thought. There's plenty evidence we're way less rational than our immediate experience tells us. (Worse, tries to tell us) And this mismatch is also at display in our thinking of what advanced civilizations would be like. You are talking about an evolu

  16. Hi everyone... I just found this forum by accident (I was looking for a clear definition of Filter Envolopes) and I ended up here! And having a little look around, it looks really cool! So I thought I would say hi and introduce myself. Only thing is, it's 7:32 - in the morning, and I have been up all night a/playing Civilization VI and b/ got stuck into my music (I use Reason 10) - and suddenly it's silly o' clock in the morning. Thankfully I work from 4pm to midnight so I can allow these daft bedtimes. But not too often though..... Anyway, the point is, if it's okay...

  30. hard to believe Radiohead didn’t put out a win this entire decade (unless they’ve got a stunner about to drop in these last few months) but I guess they were doing plenty of touring and solo/soundtrack stuff, all interesting in its own rights. first things that come to mind as like defining the decade for me would be Vladislav Delay - Visa Machinedrum - Rooms Autechre - AE_LIVE / NTS Sessions Lorn - Misc./Lorn & Dolor - Drugs Kelela - Take Me Apart Rezzett - Rezzett LP SHXCXCHCXSH - just in general? lots and lots of misc ambient

  31. Just hoping to create some constructive dialogue (and not trying to be a dick!), but i can think of a lot of reasons why advanced civilizations and/or their AI aren't permeating the galaxy/universe. Since the big bang, everything that has come to be has done so through a series of emergences. The broth of post-bang radiation condensing into matter; this matter then spread unfathomably thin through the early universe (due to it just barely winning out over antimatter by way of quantum fluctuations); this matter then collapsing into the first generations of galaxies and stars (member, still no

  38. How about rephrasing your question to: will gun control have a positive impact on this problem? Instead of "solve". This way, you'll have an obvious yes. It's not going to be negative. And yes, there will be some positive impact. You may question how big. But in the end, it's just silly to "solve" it with one single change in the laws. Or one specific policy. Doesn't work like that, does it? But that shouldn't stop you from doing something. As part of a package.

  39. It seems the US isn't in line with Western values: Mass shootings, terror attacks in other countries, death penalty. Maybe it's time for a military intervention for humanitarian reasons, to free the American people from their terror regime and bring them democracy and freedom

  40. O wow. That's progress for you. This reminded me how much older generations are part of the brexit/trump/populism crowd. And just when you thought they were supposed to be a hell of a lot wiser than the rest of us younger earth dwellers, you realize they come from a different era with different norms. And it just happens to be the case norms were very different. A lot of the populists in western countries have this thing for returning to the old ways. So it's pretty obvious why elderly are drawn towards them. But it's a bit strange as many carry the memories of WW2, the moonlanding and t
