  1. this album is like my wife, i'm very confused and some of these tracks seem to love and caress me but they also hate me and want to destroy my penis

  3. Was this already shared here? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/13/arts/music/autechre-sign-interview.html NY Times interview with Ae abut SIGN. There are some pearls in it...

  4. Aight, so, the other night I said to my wife: "Hey hon, I'm going to the store later, do you want anything?" It seemed like such an innocuous request. Little did I know it would turn into my own personal Kobashi Maru. "Oh, yeah, could you pick me up some cookies?" Ok, so far, so good. "But, um, don't get me any of the cookies you usually do." Ah... ok, so- "Oh, and don't get me any of the types of cookies I usually like." I could feed my brain beginning to lock down, the equivalent of asking a robot in 1980's sci fi to resolve a paradox. I thought...

  5. I'm having a similar journey with SIGN that I have with basically every new Ae release. I love it on the first listen. Then I stop posting for a while where I have an internal dilemma of wondering if it's as good as I first thought it was, meanwhile I have a different track stuck in my head every day and I've listened to the full album at least once a day since I heard it on Thursday. Then it dawns on me later that of course it's fucking good, I don't repeatedly listen to hardly anything anymore, but SIGN is on regular rotation and I appreciate different tracks each...

  6. Funny how instantly, genuinely loving a record seem to be so negative according to some here. SIGN is explicitly lush AF imo, that’s quite a musical achievement in my books. No matter the complexity in the background or whatever, the tunes are instantly gorgeous and moving. Fantastic music, no matter how it’s done.

  7. 30 month CT scan all clear. no abnormalities. so the cancer killing drug i'm on is doing its job 🙂 so i'm going to celebrate with some kind of food maybe. or have ice cream for the first time in months. fuck. i wasn't expecting any bad news but ya never know. it's nice to have that lifted. it's always a tension inducing thing as the day of CT scan/follow up appointment nears. i hope you lot get some good news about something soon ay...

  8. BROWN One charge that people level at us is where’s the emotion? Where’s the notes? Where’s the tunes? It’s nonsense. BOOTH The issue for me has always been that I can feel it. So I wonder sometimes whether our emotions are too subtle for people to pick up on. You can’t think that we’re not feeling it. I mean, what would be the point in doing music if you weren’t feeling it? *cry*

  9. Really, really do want the full conversation. It was like "is that it!?"

  10. thanks for sharing! dang, after reading that i want the full 2 hour conversation... very enlightening in places indeed! _____ How do you feel about the album when you listen to it now? "It’s strangely jarring.[...]It’s difficult to listen to because it’s too emotionally resonant.[...]I’m reluctant to play it too much because I feel like that place it puts me in is perhaps a little bit too cathartic." _____ exactly.

  11. interestingly (yeah right) i find it to be a very unstable record and it makes me feel unstable. lotsa tracks are ambiguous as fuck imo: lema is angels singing while bombed out landmasses vainly try to form a megabot, f7 has frequent dives into discorance, si00 oscillates between innocence and total claustrophobic dread, au14 is pumpy / uplifting and futuristic as hell while also feeling weirdly baroque and empty, schmefd is basically ALL over the place tonally and r cazt is beyond bitter / sweet. to me it's a very challenging listen, that's why i'm already taking a break. i can take feed1s all day, but this kinda emotional engagement...

  12. The opening minutes of M4 Lema teased me into thinking we were in for an inhospitable sounding album, with all its distant grumbling and whizzing. Then those luminous pads hit and its pretty much all lush from there on out. F7 sounds like a mix of those bagpipey Coil synths from know(1) but with a Lorenzo Senni abstract trance sensibility si00, amazing bass, haunted underwater vibes reminded me a little of Sim Gishel esc desc sounds like an extremely stripped back take on their emotional chord progression type track a la see on see or Vletrmx21, but with super smooth & syrupy chorus. au14, some welcome beats. Shaky digital ghost...

  15. I think its rather beautiful 😉 Really enjoy having a compact and focussed work again for a change. Also think its a smart move to counter the 'logic' of the ever expanding format, freeing them from expectations which might otherwise work against them, if that makes sense. Unpredictability as a virtue autechre always cultivated and for a reason I think. I'm suprised to see so many 'dissapointed' reactions - to me r cazt alone made my day. Floors me each time - don't remember when i last heard a tune so instantly recognisable as a future classic.

  17. “...a rare melodic depth to their expansive sound. “ I don’t get why people keep saying this. Am I the only one who generally finds Autechre ARE melodic? Maybe I just don’t get what a melody is. Hah. But I certainly don’t think it has to be some “dooo do dooo do do dooo” top line LOL. Elseq is full of melodic-like movement in the upper registers.

  18. Are you saying, that Jamie Oliver HASNT been trying to get his design ideas into various pans for years and it's likely he did it for the money and not because he feels passionate about pans?

  19. He was a piece of shit before 9/11. He’s often credited with “cleaning up” Times Square but most New Yorkers remember him as gutting the soul of the city, crushing the arts. During and after 9/11, he shamelessly used the event to his own political advantage. Don’t forget that he ran for president on the I-saved-the-world-from-terrorists-on-9/11 ticket. The guy is a shit stain. Fuck him and all of the Russian oligarchs he’s been blowing in order to undermine American security and compromise democracy.

  27. About psin AM, I'm the first to be surprised to go crazy about this track. It shoudn't be my thing. I ask myself the same question listening to it more and more. It doesn't lack any details, there is so much evolving during the track. Some are really far, almost hidden (but in a different way than what we are used to). Others are so intrusive that they are barely discernible and you can miss them if you are focused too much on the background. And melody is sublime. What a stange mood ! Same for th red a. Weird but… I found myself head dancing several times. It's just...

  31. I can't get that si00 out of my mind. Not that it's a problem, on the contrary, I welcome it willingly; the fact is that too many melodies intertwine, and their mood changes, so when i whistle, muffled by the mask, a mangled combination of cacophony comes out of my mouth.

  34. Excuse me while I try and elucidate some thoughts. This is going to be long and rambling and possibly bollocks. I feel like SIGN, especially compared to the last 2 "albums" and last album-album, has a very distinctive character all on its own, it's its own world in that respect; it purposefully sticks to a certain corner of the Autechre sound world. Whereas NTS was (I recall being said in interviews) supposed to be like a radio show where you got lots of different aspects of the Autechre sound. In many respects I felt this also to be the case with Exai (one of the reasons I love it so...

  38. i was just digging into the excess mortality data from cdc. got 194k - 244k excess US deaths since february. this is how you swat the conspiracy theories that try to cover up the nearly quarter million dead. fauci and other experts have said that the official death toll is likely lower than the real death toll. the crap musk was slinging on rogan about hospitals claiming covid cause of death inaccurately may have a small amount of substance to it, and other things may account for needed downward adjustments. then there are the upward adjustments like you and fauci mention. excess mortality landing approximately spot-on with the official count,...

  40. After the stream, my first thought was, it was all a bit pat. Easy chords, little progression, easy to assimilate, no space time bending (especially after stuff like xflood, violvoic and eO thanks NTS2), except for M4 Lema perhaps. Anyway I've listened one or two times a day since then in different settings and *surprise!* I was not correct. The more I listen the more incorrect I become, it keeps revealing new stuff every time. One of the first things that struck me was taking on the mood of it, just appreciating it for what it is. And like aux says not being disappointed that it isn't what I had...

  44. dude I'm rarely serious in this thread. I find it hard to take anything in trump world seriously. it's a big fucking joke. all of it. a sad, unfortunate, twisted reality joke that an honest to god con man is currently president AND has a realistic shot at getting re-elected. and the people helping him get re-elected are literally dying from a virus that he is helping give to them. how in the fuck is this reality?
