  1. this has really hit me in a way i never would have predicted. i've been on this forum since like 2004 (?) and i guess i never really properly understood the bonds you have to people on here. i still don't understand them! almost every single person i've interacted with here has been on the forum alone. i've met a few people, made irl friends with a few people (encey got ordained and officiated my wedding lol. but i'm divorced now so maybe he did it wrong) and have some peeps i know i could hang with if the moment arose - i could definitely get a boa and go...

  3. Hey, I had a conversation with my best friend (the one from AA) about the things that were bothering me and I feel a lot better now. I'm still struggling but being able to talk about it in person with someone I trust deeply is an invaluable help. Thanks also to everyone who cares here and the effort you go through to reach out to me.

  4. Ironic that he and I never interacted outside of WATMM despite being from the same state. But that bus tour sounds very much like any (honest) job orientation you'd find here. Alaskans are known for lack of sugar-coating. Also that bit about fruitless attempts at imparting wisdom can be applied to humanity as a whole I think. Seems I'm the sole living Alaskan now on WATMM. But I just can't live up to Salv's caliber when it comes to interesting stories, despite having studied abroad in uni/college. All I can do really these days is steal stupid memes all over the web for burgers. Damn.

  6. https://while.bandcamp.com/album/1998 An unsung hero of mine for the golden era of early IDM. His releases on Chocolate Industries/SKAM are essential in my book. His album "Lock" never left my car back in '98 (and was one of the finest Ae-inspired albums at the time). I was just relistening to Lock the other day - and am super hyped/surprised to see that Chris is putting these out. Take a time machine back to '98, sit back, and enjoy.

  7. plus one on this. personally the best thing i've found for combating recursive bad habits is to instantiate good habits. it takes some effort to get the flow flowing in the opposite direction, but once it is it basically feels like the same energy. exercise etc can feel just as addictive as anything else, but in a way where you're constantly feeling better about life instead of worse also ketamine creeps me out. i feel like it brings out the cult leader/member tendencies in people. fun to dance on tho

  8. Just want to add something I think is important to this thread, without taking away from tributes and grieving. I also don't want to assume or claim to know Phil's particular situation. But I have read that in the last year (may 2019-may 2020) in America marked the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded. That is a scary statistic. I just want any watmmers who are dealing with substance abuse disorders of any kind to know that you are not alone. I'm no expert here but just want to say that online community can be one avenue to seek help, in addition to your irl community and other

  10. since @chenGOD mentioned it, here's the watmm circa 2004 collage. I went by handsplatter back in those days. very few people left on here from that period.

  11. I do think that this community is pretty good for the most part, not too many edge lords, only a few over-the-hill curmudgeonly old farts (like me), and people are usually pretty cool to one another. We can all try and do that more....maybe it's time to resurrect the collage of members' photos (not those kinds of members). someone must have it.

  12. Season 3 is great, some say that it brings some needed context to Season 2. Season 4 is fucking amazing, a total payoff for watchers of the series and somehow manages to still surprise - though I think that's secondary to the absolutely wonderful resolution of these characters, most of whom are finding ways to emerge from being broken by life in interesting and truly moving ways.

  16. @drillkickeryoure super young my dude. and from the sounds of it i'd say there is indeed good reason to change your habits. im just 30 but my hangovers got way worse through my 20s to the point where i gave up hard alcohol last year. i feel way better without it and I had to do it cold turkey to truly convince myself that i no longer wanted it in my life. because for a few years i was in a cycle of "oh just one mezcal" but then it is harder to control after that and I would end up hungover. my situation is different but maybe theres something...

  20. ๐Ÿ˜„ I feel you... I even felt that a little bit during S3 but nowhere near as often as S2... and, from hindsight, S4 is such a homerun (IMHOP) that I wished I'd started earlier/had S3 more fresh in my mind going in to it (all the seasons actually). You are in for a treat!

  23. I'm overlapping with what a lot of people have already said here, but 1997-2001 for sure. Envane and Chiastic Slide are still two of my favorite releases ever and a total departure from what had come before. Then it seemed like they kept reinventing themselves with the frenetic angular sounds of LP5 and Cichlisuite, into the weirdness of the underrated EP7 (great to se it's a favorite here, I've grown to love it more and more as I get older) and closing with the completely out there for the time Confield. Not to mention Key Nell and ISS:SA plus some of their best remixes. I love what came

  25. I think one thing that's really useful about tripping and taking other drugs that expand your perception, is the tendency for this kind of substance to make you feel connected to the world outside your limited perception. One of the most problematic elements of depression, is the feelings of isolation and loneliness, so the experience of feeling super-connected to the world outside yourself if only for an hour or so, can having an extreme effect for a really long time. Similarly being out in nature can put you in touch with those kind of feelings. To summarise, go and trip in the woods! Safely

  33. ketamine is fine in moderation i think. but people who make it a habit or get addicted if that's possible.. can have all sorts of problems after many many years of k-holes. saw one of those Drugs Inc. episodes about ketamine and they interviewed a guy who'd done it every day for years or something and developed non cancerous tumors in his bladder and urethra. 100+ tumors. so he went to the bathroom to tinkle countless times every day and his bladder was essentially useless and only held like 5 drops of pee. he was miserable. granted.. there's some sensationalism in the presentation. th

  35. Does it matter? You're bothered by how much you drink, by the fact that you insisted on downing 2/3s of a bottle when your initial plan was to have just a glass and the fact that you spend a lot of money on alcohol annoys you. That alone should be reason to consider quitting. The good news is, if you've only been drinking 2/3s of bottles of vodka for a month, tapering shouldn't be necessary. That's mainly for the 2 to 3 *entire bottles* for years folks. Just prepare for a week or so (if that) of not feeling too great. I sincerely wish you the best of luck. It...

  38. there's a lot of cliche things that help people quit drinking. they sound silly cliche but it's one of those things where you just put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. I lost a friend to alcoholism. I miss him every day. he was kicked out of every bar in north miami, lost good jobs, was eventually isolated though people would try to look in on him and help when possible. he experienced sporadic homelessness and several misdemeanor arrests. Several times he tried to quit but never went to meetings at AA. he was sharply intelligent and independent and stubborn. he was als

  40. Still down about this. I hardly interacted with him, because I'm practically this guy , but I always greatly enjoyed reading his posts, and his personality that shone through. There's some kind of comfort in having a guy like that around. So, even if we never *really* interacted, he still made an impact. Its a huge loss for watmm, chatmm and the world at large, this kid should've gone places. Thanks for sharing some of your time, jokes, thoughts and insights with us Phil. Will be having a drinking something nice and listening to his tunes session this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ข

  41. ^ bad leadership is the determining factor, both in the US and the UK. thick, slow conservative cunts who can't answer questions about how to face social/economic problems in an ever-changing world naturally cannot be trusted to handle fast-evolving situations like pandemics either. the difference now is that their incompetence shows very clearly in the form of a mounting human death toll, whereas before it was easier to mask with things like "look how many jobs we created" or "this is a free marketplace of ideas". not saying that conservatism is the core problem here per se, even if it h
