  1. In the forest near my house, sitting on a portion of the ruins of a house from the mid-1800s.

  2. Went to a pub to meet up with a date, and was stood up. First time that's ever happened to me. Still enjoyed my Creepy Unkle Dunkle and some sweet chilli wings, which I would not have bought had she been there. Also, I was eavesdropping on the old men at the table behind mine. One was lamenting that he didn't think the health system was capable of caring for him were he to fall sick. "Remember little Jimmy, or Wendy? Their last months weren't a pretty sight." [paraphrasing...] "I have a shot gun at home, just in case." Also, I have some weird anger deficiency... like, it's really hard...

  3. Kingfishers are amazing and quite common in India. I see lots of these in Goa on the daily. Including an amazing stork billed one nesting in a coconut tree near the river by my house.

  7. Maybe, but as the spotify lawyer said, its like radio plus...that user focused experience. I hardly ever listen to the radio shows that apple music has for example, whereas i will stream music that i own but either don't have access to (my record collection remains in korea with my friend) or am too lazy to find the hard drive its on. The thing that's frustrating is that there is much more possibility with the internet, and labels have less power (though they still function as good indicators of aggregate sound or curators), but artists need a very strong union, or Spotify et al. will fuck them over harder than...

  11. it tru those comix are by far the most popular thing i've made to date, definitely moreso than any tracks i've done (afaik). i still from time to time see them appear randomly on social media, and in fact more than once i've had someone random mention them irl before they knew i had made them (usually in the context of me making a little doodle & someone saying "oh, that reminds me of a meme comic i saw about electronic music..."

  14. It's PITA but it is what it is. I looked into writing a CKEditor plugin that takes the release page URL and automagically scrapes the id from the page source for the embed (to be honest I found at least two viable methods of doing it) - I know I'll eventually give up and do it to save humanity from repetitive stress injury - and for the pleasure of implementing something small but useful to offset the insanely, needlessly complex technical yak-shaving I get paid for.

  16. Vinyl and CD reissue coming in June this year on Mille Plateaux. Has remained a staple part of my listening habits since I first picked up the re-release back in 2004. Haven't seen it on the their Bandcamp: https://forceincmilleplateaux.bandcamp.com/ but it's up for pre-order in the usual places. https://www.normanrecords.com/records/121115-thomas-koner-nuuk

  17. ngl i sometimes get the urge to make new afex aventures (usually it's when i'm posting in the write something random thread a lot). the main reason i've held off is because i don't currently have a wacom tablet, and the idea of hand-drawing + scanning them seems less funny to me (i associate putting effort into things with them being less funny, somehow. notice how most effective memes look like they were made in about three minutes). i mean like if i can get one for under say 80 bucks i just might hop on it. i miss having illustrated shitposts

  18. I’ve just remembered an FM anecdote.... If you own an OP-1 then some of the presets for its FM synth I created!!! You would think that would enable me to contribute more to a thread about FM synthesis but in reality the OP-1’s 4-OP FM engine is a combination of just four knobs to tweak. Just messing with it enables the creation of usable sounds but obviously lacks the depth of more complex FM synths. I suppose that I could say that if you want an FM synth that is easy to make sounds good enough to impress the manufacturer but you don’t know much about FM synthesis, then get...

  20. I'm not sure we can compare music and series/movies here. I suppose everyone's involved in the making of a movie, TV show / series to be streamed via Netflix is paid, prior to streaming. Not sure there would be much content available otherwise. On the other hand, I suspect the vast majority of the artists on Spotify don't get a cent before streaming... and won't get much once their music is available.

  22. When I went into the weed doctor’s office, all they had was delta8 and CBD (the dispensary is next door, but in Florida you have to wait for this incessant email to qualify for entry). Anyway, 8 will not get you nearly as high as 9. There is a less noticeable psychoactive effect, but the asinine US drug laws make it legal, for now. I guess it’s more for pain than recreation. The taste is really bad, IMO.

  26. Plum, you should know that true friendships can still be ephemeral, still contain profound beauty no matter how short. The Japanese have a phrase for it. Mono no aware. Look it up. I would've expected you to understand this after your experience of organising a 'bring your mandolin' night at a local pub in the provincial shithole that you call home. Might have been a good idea in 2009. Not too sure about 2019. You told me you had dreams of meeting a quirky hipster girl like that one in 300 days of Summer. You turned up in your best outfit which consisted of a blue harbour check shirt and...

  28. Yep, that's exactly how it starts. First you buy yourself a drum kit. Then you're wearing lycra cycling gear on Sundays. Before you know it, you're frequenting that lay-by on the outskirts of town, the one that's popular with other straight men. You know the one (if not, pm me for postcode).

  31. At the moment, I'd say the elseq / nts / ae_live is my favorite era. Something clicked with the NTS releases and opened up a new way of listening to them....if I would have been into them in the 90's my answer could be different but I was introduced to them when Confield came out. I do like the early stuff a lot and Cichlisuite is probably my favorite of the 90's, I just put that on the other day. Krib is so good. ♥
