  2. Take a small break to give you the opportunity to miss creating, collaborate with friends or other people or try creating something new and different from what you currently have been. You're not mediocre man you're just bored maybe and are in need of something refreshing!

  4. Oh yeah, that does make sense! And I've definitely been through the grind. Thinking back, I always used to be in a band, or I could go to a jam session, or something, though my most formative years on my instrument (the trumpet). Being on stage and playing for people made all the tediousness make sense. During covid I actually fell out of practice for the longest time ever. Sitting in my living room and practicing jazz standards and thinking "when am I actually going to play this shit?" did finally get to me. So I guess having something to work toward is pretty important even if I didn't realize...

  5. I can kinda relate to this. Not sure how reliable my advice would be here, but I find it helps sometimes to jam out/take a freeform approach on some piece of hardware (or even acoustic instrument) and go completely impromptu. Doesn't have to be recorded. Then when you naturally feel some tune that comes to mind, that's when you finally get something that sticks. It's almost a nebular approach in this sense. For example, two years ago I'd just randomly be on the couch, playing around on my Korg Minilogue xd, then once I come up with a melody or some semblance of looped structure, then I'd be like "damn,...

  6. If it's practice that's getting you down, maybe just make it simpler. Practice slower. Practice scales in front of the tv. Play the same thing a hundred times over. Turn yourself into a robot that practices exactly an hour every day and don't expect any results until after at least a month. So what if you're mediocre? That *why* you practice.

  10. Probably seen more documentaries on Waco than any other subject. I think the Storyville one maybe the best but my memory is fuzzy. Either way this is a guaranteed watch.

  13. Practicing more slowly has actually become EXTREMELY important to me, that and playing more softly/smoothly. The issue I have with playing "the same thing a hundred time over" is that it makes me start to loathe playing my instrument. Instead of spending most of my time with my instrument having fun, I'm mostly just doing boring exercises. Which is normal, I think, but I hate that it often makes me view my instrument as a piece of laborious work-out equipment instead of a fun toy. (If that makes any sense.)

  14. Like Musk. This fucking muppet has too many Yes People around him. 'Yes Sir you are a genius!' Whereas it should be 'Nah you are a massive cunt'

  15. I appreciate it, but I'm afraid I actually am quite mediocre. And it's funny that you've suggested the things that you have, because I've actually JUST started doing two of those things very recently, and I think they might actually be helping.

  16. cool new artist to me. he's had a lot of great releases come out recently. latest one on transatlantic is 2 long form high bpm techno/idm bangers. really great stuff. a more ambient oriented one on the solid 3XL label. and a full length from last year. all 3 worth checking out!

  18. yep. it's petrochemicals. i read somewhere that the most waste in the oceans is put there by commercial fisheries. massively long fishing nets and lines all tangled up in everything else. tons and tons of fishing lines and nets. i'm sure all the microplastics are doing wonders for fish gills and stuff. ?

  19. yar, afaik it doesn't change the source of plastics (crude oil and natural gas, mostly), so I don't know what that ad is on about, it seems to just introduce a treatment to conventional plastic while it's in production so that it degrades faster (in water, i.e., the ocean). so basically we can make more plastic but it won't stick around so long. that's not really a solution, even if the idea is pretty clever. I guess it turns into paraffin wax. anyway Nestle is investing in them and that's never a good sign. I guess most of our ingested microplastics come from drinking water? I suggest we switch to...

  20. I'm trapped in the shack by the March rain, blasting out BEAST MUSIC!!! Time for a bump!!! Yeah that’s right Jesus it’s booze!! totally underrated old school non-poncey cornershop cider ? weighing in at an impressive 6.0% alcohol it’s got the punch to do the liver a nice wack around the ring but smooth enough that you don’t get a huge KO while staggering on the ropes by the third round ?

  23. Nah dude I may come as pissed off but I'm not... Things I complain in this thread are indeed fwp... Good things outweigh the bad ones... Actually I'm having the best contract ever... Big cabin with porthole, free fast speed internet, doing a lot of guests excursions for free that cost 70 or 80 bucks to guests, lots of snorkeling, tomorrow some waterfalls and more snorkeling... Been using public transportation to find cool places mostly beaches with the aid of google maps (one of the best things invented ever)... Lots of smoothies and fresh local fruit juices... Mostly cheap stuff everywhere... Over nights in some countries which allow me to...

  26. Watched The Night Of which was pretty good. It dragged sometimes and got close to being just another mediocre crime/courtroom drama, but good performances, especially from Turturro, make it enjoyable. Also cool to see the kid from Four Lions. Station Eleven was a bit convoluted in a kind of annoying, unnecessary way, but the good things definitely outweigh the bad. Loved the first airport episode, that Irish dude is very watchable. Currently watching Fleishman Is In Trouble, very good so far.

  27. I have always felt the same way about dogs that I feel about people: The majority of them I don’t care to be around while a few I feel a genuine, deep connection with. The ones I do feel connected to, it’s usually because they are old and super chill.

  28. Confirmation of the leak makes all the comments about technical simplicity, pre-made tools, etc. even more interesting. A good chunk of the fanbase seem to want Ae records to push the technical envelope above all else - if tracks are made with recognisable tools it's seen as a failure somehow. Since I don't use any of this software, as a listener the album seems almost austere in its rejection of technique, and creates its effects by very conventional means - dissonance, harmony, timbre, rhythm. The fact that it *sounds* so immediately Autechre is brilliant - they are about feel, instinct, sensibility, presence, not software development or hardware hacking. This record...
